Yes, it's *all* of those things and more. The Big Lebowski is a mirror-laden chameleon. Intelligent people will see it as philosophical and deep-----while the more common folk will see it as an inconsequential, shallow and straight forward comedy. Whether it be your fluctuating mood or your permanent personality-----these are all factors that lead to the differing experience that people have in watching The Big Lebowski. If you watch it while in a docile and peaceful mood, you'll pick up on things that a bad mood would otherwise miss (and vise versa). This movie really is an anomaly. It's lightning in a bottle. It cannot be reproduced.

The Cohen brothers are famous for VERY exacting dialogue. I read elsewhere the "big Swede" in Fargo thought it was a mistake to say "pancakes" (plural not singular) ... and they yelled CUT! He said "I thought it was a typo," to which they replied THERE ARE NO TYPOS IN OUR SCRIPTS.

Not sure how this fits into the timeline of movie releases exactly, but... In the Big Lebowski, Bunny ran away from her family farm outside of Moorhead MN. Moorhead happens to be just across the Red River from Fargo ND. You can literally play catch with someone in the other city even though you are in different states, they are that close. It would be interesting to find out if the reference to Moorhead was added after making the film Fargo as a hidden throwback to their other movie.

The Raymond Chandler storytelling approach is the one I would always favour over any other! Actually, I think everyone into the art of movies should be forced to read Chandlers Marlowe novels, and, in addition, study the aspects on the protagonists evolution over the years. Doing that is of highest importance to have one understand the importance of the rhythm and music of dialogue, or even monologue, as proven by the off-narrative monologues of Marlowe, or, for instance, Sterling Haydens monologue in Dr Strangelove. These views are underlined heavily by the works of Shakespeare, Orson Welles, Michael Curtiz, Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Zemeckis, and many more. All of the works by the above are only remembered and referred to as being classics due to what is said. If one is not able to remember any dialogue/monologue of a certain movie, it will never be referred to as being a true classic. And this even includes the silent years, when dialogue was delivered via text panels.

Minty, as a recent fan of yours and a 12 year Dudeist Priest. I appreciate that you mentioned the religion of Dudeism. It takes some discipline to remain dude and to not be a Walter. Keep doing a good job at keeping us entertained.

He's Minty. So that's what you call him. Or Minter... His Mintness... Or El Minterino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I heard a lot of the Cohen projects had roots in Homer’s Odyssey. This is hardly different.

Just watched the Big Lebowski video. You mentioned how it had a confusing plot (intentionally). Got me thinking of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. That's a strange and confusing plot to the extreme. That's got to have all sorts of strange/cool stuff about it.

Another fact: There’s a pony in the new My Little Pony show based on the Dude. His cutie mark is a rug. Only made one brief appearance but I thought that was really adorable when I saw it.

Nice job Minty. I too had it go over my head in 98 but have come to love it. I would love to see a 10 things about Kingpen.

🤔 What if “The Simpsons” did a spoof of “The Big Lebowski”?!? 🤔😍👍🏻

I once met a cosplay god whose costume was Jeff Lebowski if he were a certain alien species from Doctor Who. I never learned his birth name, he was known as The Dood. His translation device was even a tethered, luminescent cocktail glass. He would intentionally make erroneous claims about Doctor Who trivia, so that when met by the inevitable "um, actually" correction, he could respond with, "Well, that's just like, your opinion, man."
