I just want to point out that the part that minty couldn't understand was Rambo talking about his buddies death because he couldn't find his legs. That small section was one of the most honest PTSD freak outs I have ever scene performed in a movie. Should have won an Oscar for it.

My friends father is a Nam vet. I don't know if he had a hard time getting work like a lot of other vets at the time as he was in law enforcement for many years. But he has PTSD as well as being affected by Agent-Orange. Scary stuff to see what they were forced to go through and then having your home spit on you when you returned. Sadly schools don't teach stuff like this anymore so kids could see what their elders went through in their past life.

Seriously...So many people made comments about Stallone and Schwarzenegger for so long. Fact is BOTH guys have always been way smarter than most people. Stallone is an Oscar nominee for writing the screenplay for Rocky. And Schwarzenegger was already a millionaire BEFORE he became a movie star (Or bodybuilding champion. Or governor...) Real Estate,I believe. They're action heroes...Actors. They're not supposed to come across as geniuses.
@maladetts
@maladetts 3 жыл бұрын
@@toniaansaldo8140 I don't know how any of this relates to my comment, but I'd correct you: Arnold won body-building titles in Europe when still in his teens and became Mr. Universe a year prior to his arrival in the U.S. In fact, what he brought with him to the States in 1968, about 200 grand in today's money, was his bodybuilding title-prize cash. He also immediately got a role in 'Hercules in New York" in 1969, which also earned him some dough. But yes, in an article on "Celebritynetworth" site they say that he supposedly invested that money into property right away, buying cheap and reselling much higher with miraculously huge profit, allegedly. Thus suddenly becoming a millionaire by age 25, even before he became a movie star, which helped him to be choosy about his roles. And this story is a little odd, considering he barely spoke any English and lived in an Austrian village prior to coming to the US, having zero experience and qualification to suddenly become a property-investing genius in America at his age, without anyone's help, and not to go bust with bad deals. Whatever the case, they say he remains a property tycoon to this day, holding a lot of real estate throughout the country. But that's not what most people know and what we value about Arnold the action hero of our young years.

Lt. General William P. Yarborough is considered to be the Father of US Army Special Forces. He was a paratrooper who designed the USArmy Jump Wings badge and their jump boots. As well, he was responsible for turning US SF into what it is today. One thing he wanted done, which Big Army refused, was to issue each SF member with a custom made, serial numbered Bowie Knife. This was to compliment their use of the Crossed Arrows insignia which comes from the days of “Indian Fighting”. I heard of US SF saying that give a Green Beret a knife, he will build you a house. There was a real Rambo present during filming: known locally as "Shaky Jake". He was S.O.G. in WW2, lived in the bush outside of town, looked out for us kids, but when he got drunk and heard a loud noise, he'd holler "Incoming" and turn into a quivering, sobbing ball. The production coming to Hope was a positive thing for Jake; he got pissed off, sobered up and proceeded to make an utter nuisance of himself, infiltrating the shoots at will; so much so that the production had to hire every off duty R.C.M.P. officer as security......not that it really helped. He's still visible in a few scenes in the background. He died in local hospital of liver failure in 1986. R.I.P. Jacob Piscatti.

We were in this bar in Saigon and this kid comes up, this kid carrying a shoe-shine box. And he says "Shine, please, shine!" I said no. He kept askin', yeah, and Joey said "Yeah." And I went to get a couple of beers, and the box was wired, and he opened up the box, f***ing blew his body all over the place. And he's laying there, he's f***ing screaming. There's pieces of him all over me, just like this, and I'm tryin' to pull him off, you know, my friend that's all over me! I've got blood and everything and I'm tryin' to hold him together! I said, Well what, I can't find yer fuckin legs.'' That part is wicked heart wrenching to me. I have Vet friends and one was killed in combat. Nice one, Minty. But you missed something. In the movie, it is mentioned though not explored in-depth at all, that Teasle is also a Veteran who saw combat too. As for the stuff you couldn't understand.... His buddy got his legs blown off by a kid with a boobytrap bomb in a shoe-shine box, during some down time in Vietnam. The kid had originally approached Rambo, asked him if he wanted a shine. But Rambo declined. His buddy felt sorry for the kid and agreed to pay for a shoe shine. That's the backstory. What Rambo was saying is that his buddy didn't die right away. He started screaming at Rambo that all he wanted to do was go home, and drive his Chevy vehicle. He begged Rambo to find his legs for him. And, Rambo tried. But he couldn't find them because they had been blown to pieces. So Rambo was telling his dying buddy how sorry he was that he couldn't find his legs for him. Ironically, I didn't have to look that up. I actually understood what he was saying.

@neoasura 3 жыл бұрын
They never mention Teasle being in war in the movie though, thats more of a plot point in the book. And considering when this movie came out, most people had small TVs and a VCR, so making out his medals in the background would've been hard. I didn't even notice until I had a big screen and saw this in HD for the first time.

@@travismiles5885 Indeed, Sly Stallone mentioned on the audio commentary on the DVD/ Blu Ray that Teasle being a Korean war vet is a part of the reason he gives Rambo a hard time. Stallone helped create the mythos of the 'badass protagonist' out of necessity. Early shooting gave him almost an hour of additional dialogue and he admitted it was horrible. Stallone figured out Rambo would be far more intimidating if others talked about him instead of him talking about himself. Hence, we got arguably the best scene in the franchise with Colonel Trautman telling the cops "I'm here to save you from him."

I always thought so. Gave me an insight into what they felt when they come home. They were kids at 17, 18, 19 years old, in for years (WWII for 4+) strapped with a M16 or a Garand and a .45 on their hip. Driving machines with enough fire power to take over the small towns they come from and commanding others to do the same and everyone around them is the same. Then they come home. Everyone and everything they knew is now gone and everyone at home expects the solider to leave it all behind (everything they were taught to be) and be the same person that left. No 22+ something that has had power wants to realize they now have none and society didn't value these people enough to make sure they caught up to the civilians they protected. A recipe for disaster and a lot of misconceptions.

Minty I always get criticised for what I am about to say, and your review, is one of the reasons. The end scene in the sherrif's office where Stallone is describing his friends death in Saigon, is my evidence that Stallone could actually act. It is one of the most powerful five minutes or so in film history. His description, his tone of voice, his physical/body language paints a vivid picture and at least for me it made me able to imagine the scene and feel his pain. Whenever anyone says Stallone can not act, I always bring them back to this scene and by the end of my description, I have turned them into believers. I do not know why Stallone got into acting, whether it was for the money, or to be known as a good actor, but his subsequent film choices were no doubt for the money.

There really was a John Rambo in Vietnam. If I recall correctly he is also listed on the Vietnam War Memorial.
