Seriously...So many people made comments about Stallone and Schwarzenegger for so long. Fact is BOTH guys have always been way smarter than most people. Stallone is an Oscar nominee for writing the screenplay for Rocky. And Schwarzenegger was already a millionaire BEFORE he became a movie star (Or bodybuilding champion. Or governor...) Real Estate,I believe. They're action heroes...Actors. They're not supposed to come across as geniuses.
@maladetts3 жыл бұрын
@@toniaansaldo8140 I don't know how any of this relates to my comment, but I'd correct you: Arnold won body-building titles in Europe when still in his teens and became Mr. Universe a year prior to his arrival in the U.S. In fact, what he brought with him to the States in 1968, about 200 grand in today's money, was his bodybuilding title-prize cash. He also immediately got a role in 'Hercules in New York" in 1969, which also earned him some dough. But yes, in an article on "Celebritynetworth" site they say that he supposedly invested that money into property right away, buying cheap and reselling much higher with miraculously huge profit, allegedly. Thus suddenly becoming a millionaire by age 25, even before he became a movie star, which helped him to be choosy about his roles. And this story is a little odd, considering he barely spoke any English and lived in an Austrian village prior to coming to the US, having zero experience and qualification to suddenly become a property-investing genius in America at his age, without anyone's help, and not to go bust with bad deals. Whatever the case, they say he remains a property tycoon to this day, holding a lot of real estate throughout the country. But that's not what most people know and what we value about Arnold the action hero of our young years.

Nice one, Minty. But you missed something. In the movie, it is mentioned though not explored in-depth at all, that Teasle is also a Veteran who saw combat too. As for the stuff you couldn't understand.... His buddy got his legs blown off by a kid with a boobytrap bomb in a shoe-shine box, during some down time in Vietnam. The kid had originally approached Rambo, asked him if he wanted a shine. But Rambo declined. His buddy felt sorry for the kid and agreed to pay for a shoe shine. That's the backstory. What Rambo was saying is that his buddy didn't die right away. He started screaming at Rambo that all he wanted to do was go home, and drive his Chevy vehicle. He begged Rambo to find his legs for him. And, Rambo tried. But he couldn't find them because they had been blown to pieces. So Rambo was telling his dying buddy how sorry he was that he couldn't find his legs for him. Ironically, I didn't have to look that up. I actually understood what he was saying.

Stallone helped create the mythos of the 'badass protagonist' out of necessity. Early shooting gave him almost an hour of additional dialogue and he admitted it was horrible. Stallone figured out Rambo would be far more intimidating if others talked about him instead of him talking about himself. Hence, we got arguably the best scene in the franchise with Colonel Trautman telling the cops "I'm here to save you from him."
@NickHazletonMusic3 жыл бұрын
I’m surprised he didn’t talk about this. It was a Howard stern clip and I think it’s pretty important to the success of the movie.

Since you mentioned him you should do an episode on To Hell and Back the Audie Murphy story starring Audie Murphy. The man played himself in his own biopic. Sabaton the Swedish metal band has a song about Audie Murphy called To Hell and Back, about when Audie Murphy locked himself in a motel room for 7 days to detox from the drugs he had been given after coming home from the war to help cope.

First Blood is the best Rambo film, the music score by Jerry Goldsmith was stellar, and the plot of John Rambo going up against the law enforcement people was excellent. The action scenes were impressive, Brian Dennehy as Will Teasle was a great villain, and John Rambo's "Nothing is Over!" speech scene was absolutely powerful.

As Rambo was shot in British Columbia in late 1981, my guess is he must have seen 'Duran Duran My Own Way' video which is on youtube. I always thought so. Gave me an insight into what they felt when they come home. They were kids at 17, 18, 19 years old, in for years (WWII for 4+) strapped with a M16 or a Garand and a .45 on their hip. Driving machines with enough fire power to take over the small towns they come from and commanding others to do the same and everyone around them is the same. Then they come home. Everyone and everything they knew is now gone and everyone at home expects the solider to leave it all behind (everything they were taught to be) and be the same person that left. No 22+ something that has had power wants to realize they now have none and society didn't value these people enough to make sure they caught up to the civilians they protected. A recipe for disaster and a lot of misconceptions.

Minty I always get criticised for what I am about to say, and your review, is one of the reasons. The end scene in the sherrif's office where Stallone is describing his friends death in Saigon, is my evidence that Stallone could actually act. It is one of the most powerful five minutes or so in film history. His description, his tone of voice, his physical/body language paints a vivid picture and at least for me it made me able to imagine the scene and feel his pain. Whenever anyone says Stallone can not act, I always bring them back to this scene and by the end of my description, I have turned them into believers. I do not know why Stallone got into acting, whether it was for the money, or to be known as a good actor, but his subsequent film choices were no doubt for the money.
