The movie Orca is highly worth checking out. It’s often compared to Jaws, but while it has the same type of action there’s a bit more heartfelt drama to it and has a different psychological approach to the story. One of its more interesting and darker points is its emphasis on consequences.
@ppiorkowski1502
@ppiorkowski1502 Жыл бұрын
@brandoncruise6398 the plot with the orca seeking revenge on the main character played by Richard Harris for killing its family (wife and child) is actually explained in the trailer. So it's not spoiling anything by letting it out. But I do commend you trying not to spoil it for people. Shows you're a good person in life. 👍

@rjkral
@rjkral 6 жыл бұрын
The actual 3D effects in this, meaning did it really seem things were leaping out into the theater, were very very good. The SPECIAL effects were TERRIBLE. What I mean is, there was nothing at all wrong with the 3D, it was STELLAR, but the actual images themselves were often just awful. Look at that shark glass breaking scene for example. That shark truly looked like it was hovering in the middle of the theater,but the image itself was miserable, the fakest looking thing ever in the history of cinema in that example. I was stunned though how objects appeared to hover right out into the theater

In Jaws 1, the editor saved the movie by cutting it so that you saw as little as possible of the obviously fake shark. She and Spielberg would go round and round over where to cut the shark scenes, because he wanted to show more and she wanted to show less. That's the main problem with this movie, is that they wanted to show too much of the shark because of the 3d.

Uh no.. Spielberg said he wouldn't even take the movie unless he didn't have to show the shark for the first hour, it's in all the documentaries.

Not to mention, while he _wanted_ to show more of the shark, the shark wouldn't let them, as it kept breaking down. So they had no other choice _but_ to film it like a Hitchcock movie.

I visited Universal Studios, and we were told that the reason for not seeing the shark very much in the original "Jaws" was because the mechanical shark they made didn't react well to water, so it malfunctioned. So, for most of the film, they couldn't get the shark to come out of the water. I think it actually works well, as it is more suspenseful NOT seeing the shark, as you don't see it coming (except for the music).

What exactly is the shark suposed to be doing when it swims up to some glass freezes and then the glass smashes. It's an awful special effect and makes no sense at all. It looks more like a Damien Hirst artwork than a shark on the rampage. It has to be said that this Jaws and the next one had terrible end sequences and shark effects. The Jaws films can easily ranked in order of film though as great, good, Hmmm! and fucking awful

This is my favourite entry in the Jaws series although I'm aware of the negative reviews. This is my favourite entry because of the 3-D procedure, it was Dennis Quaid's breakout film and the English music composer Alan Parker (not to be confused with the English FILM director Alan Parker who directed The Commitments and Evita). Between 1984-1986, the English composer Alan Parker composed the music for the smash hit UK police action-drama series Dempsey and Makepeace starring Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber.

The recent blu-ray is really good especially if you have a 3D tv. The 3D actually makes the effects look decent (instead of just goofy). Some of the odd compositions that look weird when you see it in 2D suddenly make sense (they were staged for maximum 3D pop-out effect). It makes for a very fun watch in proper 3D (not red-green glasses BS).

Totally agree. The 3d blu makes this movie MUCH better. It's not great cinema but stupid fun. A guilty pleasure. I remember seeing a 3d poster for Jaws 3d back in 1983 but I was too young to see the movie in theaters. The poster had those red and blue glasses and I thought that it was really cool. A few years later a friend of mine told me about seeing Jaws 3 in 3d and how cool it was. I dreamed of seeing it in 3d but of course a theatrical re-release was not likely for such a forgettable B movie. When 3d TVs came out one of the reasons I bought one was that I assumed that Jaws 3 would be released in 3d. It took a few years but they finally did. I finally got to watch Jaws 3 the way it was meant to be seen. In the 2d version some of the effects look like cardboard cutouts. They look much more realistic in 3d.

I actually saw Jaws 3-D in the theater as a kid, with my mom. We didn't actually intend on seeing Jaws, because we had already heard that the movie was awful. But the theater said that if we bought tickets to see Jaws 3-D, then we could stay afterwards and see an early screening of a new movie that wasn't officially releasing until several weeks later for free. So we saw Jaws (and laughed through most of cheesy effects), and waited for the second movie. The second movie was Blue Thunder, and it was f@cking awesome!!!

An additional objection to this movie, Sea World, Florida, is land locked in the center of Florida. How did the shark get there, fly? Perhaps if this had happened at Sea World, in Australia, which I believe is near the ocean (Although I am American and have never been there, only saw it on the original H2O.) it might have made more sense. Unless they trucked the shark in, there is no water connection from Sea World, Orlando, Florida to either the Gulf of Mexico, or the Atlantic. I love your reviews, keep up the good work.

If they did it like Gremlins 2 Jaws could be a good comedy. Or they could just make a new Jaws film that would make ALL shark movies canon to Jaws. One time when I was at the library there was a little kids (clearly too young for an R rated movie) trying to rent an unrelated Shark movie. One of the Sy-Fy ones, and he was trying to convince his parents that he KNEW all about it and that the movie was a sequel to the Jaws franchise. I have seen a LOT of kids convinced they KNEW what a movie was about when they had ONLY seen the box art but they wanted to brag they HAD in fact seen it.

It's seems that a lot of franchises get stuck and loose their way when they get to the the third installment. Examples being Jaws 3, Superman 3, Alien 3, Bervely Hills Cop 3, Robocop 3, Terminator 3 Rise of the machines, to name a few.

I saw all those movies in the theater back in 1983 when I was a kid. I remember Jaws 3-D used a really good 3D system which had glasses that used clear lenses. And it worked really good.

I saw Jaws 3-D opening weekend here in the States. I remember enjoying it, but I was 12. I just recently saw it as part of a 3D film festival that also included Spacehunter, Friday the 13th Part 3 and Amityville 3D. The 3D was amazing for all four films (the company that shows these created their own custom 3D glasses) and looked as good as a digitally projected 3D movie. Amityville 3-D was better than I remember, Jaws 3-D was way, way worse. I have the trading card set with the 3D illustrations. They're cheesy as hell, but fun.

Another reason the JAWS 2 shark drawing was different, is because it was the shark's mate. Yes, it was a female and the shark in REVENGE, was their son.

I think if you don't get to see it in the original 3-D it's difficult to really judge the movie's graphics. While it's not the best cgi it is cgi from from the early 80's and it's impossible to compare the 3-D in the theater to the flattened out images in the 2d version.

Admittedly I was just a little kid when Jaws 3D, Return of the Jedi, and Superman III came out, but I remember being excited about all of them. My parents wouldn't let me watch Jaws, but my friends that saw it were all enthralled with it. Looking back, Return of the Jedi was maybe weaker than the second one, but I still loved it. And Superman III was still exciting. I watched it many times. I saw Jaws III years later, and I didn't think it was that bad. I haven't seen it since I was 17, so maybe it's time to give it another look through critical adult eyes.

Being a huge anaglyphic 3D collector with a very large archive collection of comics, books, cards and movies; the JAWS 3D trading cards from Topps were great. The problem is, the company stupidly printed them in red and green anaglyphic colors, which has never worked correctly for proper dimensional depth and projection qualities. The color tone was also used with the 1950s comics and some from the 1980s as well. Years ago, when I was big into snagging the various 3D comics and cards, I spent a lot of time scanning, cleaning and enhancing them to .jpg format. In the process, I also fixed the green color issue to a proper cyan tone. After doing this with the JAWS 3D cards, they got better with the dimensional aspects, but still not exceptional. If anyone would like copies, just private message me and I'll share a Dropbox link for an .rar file containing the images.
