A 1951 LTL with off highway bunks, a 1968 R600 with a Columbia dump box, a 1975(?) RL700L with highway bunks all with quadraplexes, they were all great trucks to drive. A 1974 DM800SX with a Columbia box. The absolute worst truck I ever drove. The DM series did a lot to take Mack down in the Northwest, we never saw one that wasn't in the shop. I used my seniority to keep in my 66 which was worn out rather than take a new DM series. Big, heavy sprung, triple frame yet they could not keep an axle or a rear end intact. I have driven other Macks up to about 1998 off and on, they all seemed to be pretty good. My all time favorite though was the 66 R600 with a quadraplex.

Mack has been given the privilege to showcase all prototype models of trucks for the DOD in their museum as a result of the huge impact the company had on the US Military and quite often, those employed by Mack also buy decommissioned military trucks for personal collection and have direct access to parts (or blueprints) to assist with restoring said Mack Military trucks. Mack should have merged with Scania, the Swedish truck manufacture and Volvo’s biggest competitor. Scania and Mack had a lot of collaborations, it started in the 50’s with Scania buying bus chassis from Mack, Scania delivered many engines to Mack and together in a joint venture they developed the legendary V8 diesel, which Scania uses today, 16L and 730 hp. But around year 2000 Volvo as the new owner to Mack stopped all this, Mack was going to use Volvo’s largest engine which was under development
