When this was in the theaters, I was 12 and literally not only saw it *seventeen* times (I was a little obsessed at the time), but invited Robert Englund to my upcoming 13th birthday party -- and he actually wrote me a very kind handwritten letter back on yellow legal pad paper. He apologized for not being able to make it because he was working on the Freddy's Nightmares series at the time. It was more than I expected to get, to be honest. A gift by itself.

Soundtrack trivia.... When I was a kid, I often took a cassette audio recorder into theaters to record movies. Then I could listen to the movie while doing homework or traveling with my parents. I loved the songs from NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST 4, so I purchased the soundtrack on cassette. It included the song RIP HER TO SHREDS by BLONDIE. In the theatrical release, RIP HER TO SHREDS was playing when the one girl started lifting weights. I know because I had the audio from the theater. Unfortunately, home video releases don't have that song, but instead play a different song from the end credits. I'm sure money and licensing rights were a factor in the change. But it left many scratching their heads about why RIP HER TO SHREDS was on the soundtrack, but not home video releases.
@D-Fens_16322 жыл бұрын
We did that with movies on television! We had two tapes for Eddie and the Cruisers, one with the whole movie then one with just the music. We pretty much stopped that when we got a VCR. Never tried it in a theater though, not sure why I never thought of it, I was always into recording and archiving things. I grew up to be one of those people who sets up microphones at Grateful Dead concerts (among others) and recording them.

Just wanted to point out that the dog was named "Jason" in this movie and used fire, the element that Freddy is most afraid of to resurrect him. Freddy's second victim, Joey from Nightmare 3 was later drowned in his water bed. I find this to be a unique precursor to the eventual Freddy vs. Jason film where we see how both elements exploit their weaknesses.

Freddy 4 is my favorite in the series. Normally I don't like killing off established characters for the new; although my favorite movie of all time Transformers the Movie did exactly that. Such an interesting twist how the movie starts off with Kristen as the main focus character, continuing from #3 (but with Tuesday Knight as actress). Then 20 minutes later, she's killed off and Alice takes over as the new main character. So in this case, killing off the old characters really brought an amazing story and character arc for Alice.

Your videos are generally the best entertainment when it comes to movies and behind the scenes stuff :D
@gregorybrazell51333 ай бұрын
I totally did not know some of these, great video! But, I always thought of Part 4 as the MTV Nightmare because MTV, prior to release, did an amazing special dedicated to NOES 4. Also, you missed Tuesday's song for Part 4. Unless I missed that somewhere... And, I disagree with the people against killing off Joey and Kincaid early. Think of it from Freddy's POV. He doesn't want to just be beaten again, and definitely doesn't want an ongoing struggle to enjoy terrorizing, tormenting, and reaping souls. Kincaid and Joey both think Freddy is toast, done, over... If one of them died, the other would know why. If other teens started dying off, they would know why. If two of the three Warriors were left alive, what would happen? They'd start seeking out any other teens who were in danger, or had managed to survive a single dream. And, Freddy doesn't actually prefer to kill them in the very first nightmare... he wants to make them scared beyond belief so they begin weakening and more. He needs the terror as well as the soul. If two of the three had lived... they'd start making an army, and training them to use their powers, as well as having them call Kristen in (as her power works both directions - proven by how Alice ended up in other people's dreams, not just others coming into hers). If they call on Kristen, then Kristen can call in everyone else: ARMY. The ONLY way Freddy has a shot at winning is to kill off 2 of the 3, and he has to do it on the exact same night. If he doesn't, odds are that the remaining two will do as above. He needs to kill off 2... but Joey's and Kincaid's powers don't have any shot at benefitting him. Kristen's DOES, and he knows this. Plus, Kristen actually expects Freddy at this point. The other two don't. That means he can easily go after them and remove them from the equation. The way it plays out is tactically the best option for Freddy. It isn't a weak point, bad decision, poor script, or anything else like that. It's the only winning play he had... he just didn't truly expect Alice. Her power, apparently, was a collector (being the Dream Master). Giving her Kristen's power in addition, allowed her to collect the powers of every victim that Freddy reaped THROUGH her, making it a tragic win-win situation for Alice, and an automatic catch-22 for Freddy.

You can't have characters, in old slashers, that keep their stories going through 2-3 parts. The old characters have to die off in order to fully allow new characters to tell a new story. Joey and Kincade dying always made sense to me. It showed that you may win the battle but Freddy will win the war eventually. It was necessary to show that no one truly escapes Freddy. The actors should have felt fortunate to even be asked back for part 4 seeing as most side-characters never get that chance.

This movie is my favorite in the franchise. It's easily the most creative with the concept. I also really love Alice and her friend group, they're so much better than Nancy's group in the first movie (Why did Nancy waste her time with any of them?). Kristen being like a big sister figure to Alice was sweet. Rick is so attentive and caring to Alice and to Kristen made him feel like a great brother and boyfriend, so I felt sad that he died (and his death being the weakest effects-wise in the franchise is too bad since he's a great character). Debbie being a tough, badass girl with a heart of gold was endearing especially how she was best friends with Sheila, who was her opposite as a gentle, bookish girl. Seeing Alice get revenge for taking them was very cathartic and I like that she wore things her lost loved ones had in the final confrontation since Alice gained strength from them throughout the movie. I really liked Alice, her story about finding her power was well done. The director was definitely eccentric but I thought he did a fantastic job.

In Sweden during the 80's the government was waging a war against "Video violence" and often had movies undergo heavy editing before being released to the public. This movie is one of those that got it worst. It was so butchered by the board of censorship that they actually made cuts in the middle of dialogue. This butchering of movies gave a couple of writers the idea to make a Splatter comedy called "Evil Ed" (hilariously great no-budget movie with star-studded cast and extremely overexaggurated English dubbing) where Ed is one of the poor saps who has to sit through and cut horror movies. It is definitely worth a watch. 😁

Ok so I was like 10 years old when the FREDDIE HOTLINE came out... soooo, I didn't know or really consider, I guess, the fact that calling these 1-900 numbers cost money... So I called and I loved it, and of course the Freddy message ended with some form of "don't forget to call tomorrow to find out/learn the secret/get the VIP news, blah blah blah"..... So not only did I call the rest of that week, but (and I SO vividly remember this because of the fuckin AFTERMATH of what I did lol), I also called 3 times from my friends house lol-- twice back to back cuz he was making noise and I missed the end, and once the next day; BOTH times because we were playing guns, or stoop ball, baseball, or God knows what, and it was like a light bulb on the head moment, "OH MY GOD! BRENDAN, I HAVE TO USE YOUR PHONE, I ALMOST FORGOT, THE FREDDY LINE SAID TO BE SURE TO CALL TODAY FOR BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH" 🤣 🤣 Obviously, when the phone bill came in, and there was like a week of calls from home, AND 3 calls on my friend's parent's bill, I got a whoopin... Epilogue--- that's when I learned about phone costs, "scams," and to be cognizant of that shit, HOWEVER--- I admit I called the Mean Gene Okerlund WCW Wrestling hotline (if I'm not mistaken, 1900-909-9900 lol), a handful of times regardless, cuz I needed a scoop... And I ABSOLUTELY called the NINTENDO EXPERTS hotline, probably a good 20 times over the years. It was a last resort, but shit, when you're 8-11 years old, and you're hooked on a game like SHADOWGATE, but can't figure out 3 problems, including the final boss (which I STILL contend, to this very day, aint NO ONE knew how to beat that game on their own, without SOME kind of hint from SOMETHING/ONE!), well, there's only so many times u can chuck your NES controller at the big ass glass tube TV before u break down and call across the goddamn country and ask "how do I find level 7 in Zelda 2nd quest??/Beat shadowgate?/Escape death traps in NIGHTSHADE??" NO SHAME, wha-whaaaat???

People often say 3 was the best and I admit it was awesome but for me THIS was my fav Freddy movie. I loved the OST and I loved the fight scenes and Freddy is at his best in this one.

This was not only the first Nightmare on Elm Street I ever saw, but one of the first three horror movies I ever watched (the others being Chopping Mall and Stuart Gordon's Dolls; at other friends' houses, of course - I was 10 at the time). Between this, a censored airing of Freddy's Revenge, and Freddy's Nightmares (both in syndication; both of which my parents actually let me watch) I was a fan - by age 11 I was trick-or-treating as Freddy himself.

That was Robert's stunt double for the underwater scenes who lost his shit. Not Robert.

I own the soundtrack on Vinyl. Anyways. Fat Boys is rap legends and also invented "human beatbox". Fat Boys weren't just some randoms and neither were Vinnie. Vinnie Vincent saved Kiss multiple times by making hits for them in 1980's and 1990's. Vinnie Vincent Invasion later became "Slaughter" who made a famous song for Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

Well this one was kind of stupid but I still kinda love it. Soundtrack rocks of course. The deconstruction of dream warriors wasn't necessary but the water bed scene was awesome. Cool vid, cheers again minty.

I listened to a DJ jazzy Jeff ( Will Smith ) nightmare on elm street song around that time. I haven’t been able to find it on KZbin but, I loved it in the 80s. This is a great movie but part is 1, 3 and Freddy’s dead were my most watched movies from this franchise. I know lots of friends hate F D. Thanks for explaining #4 more, I must rematch these movies this month.

Part 4 will always be my favorite! I watch that one more than any elm street film. I hated part 5 and “Freddy is dead”

I'm ok with the previous characters being killed but I'm glad they showed up. Often in sequels it's like this is the first time again. The carry over acknowledges the previous movie happenings and then allows it to move to something new.

I'd like to see a video about '10 Things You Didn't Know About Phantom of the Paradise' (1974), one of my favorite movies! Starring Paul Williams and William Finley.

I feel that the 4th entry was when the series started to lose its momentum That's the reason it was the last money maker... People went and saw it and were like oh well the next one won't be that good then... 3 is the magic number. When it comes to sequels the success of the next in the series is always dependent on the quality of the last That's why 5 started to see a decrease in profit Despite keeping the actors from 4... It was Patricia Arquette Being recast Along with them killing the survivors from Dream Warriors That was the Speed bump that blew the tires.Also they weren't really good at establishing these characters as the new dream Warriors... That die and pass their powers on to the main actress... Making her the dream Master... Everybody when they went and saw it realized the series was taking a s*** So when a nightmare on home street 5 came out not as many people went to see it. A nightmare on elm street 4 is a huge success on paper... But in execution it's what ruined the series.

Fact 11 - Locations: -The HS scenes were filmed at Venice HS in Los Angeles, California. The same HS the movie Grease and Britney’s Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time music video were shot at -The diner they run out of is in Culver City, California, near Venice and close to Sony Studios

Nice one, Minty. (Ironically, commenting while I'm eating a slice of pizza.) And honestly, yes; it was cheap to kill them off. Since the actress is played by someone else, kill her off early. Let the two guys live and help the so-called Dream Master. You have returning actors reprising loved roles.... Use them! It was lame killing them off so quickly.

The #2 spot where you mentioned Robert Englund losing his cool and b*itching during the shoot of the waterbed kill scene, that was actually the stunt double who was mad not Robert.

Love that scene in the classroom where he's peeling the apple. This one has so many fun, well done visually scenes. I see it as the same as Friday the 13th part 6. Just a fun easy watch which still has some good horror to it also.
