The whole Unbreakable/Split/Glass trio was so good!! I went into Breakable not expecting The Sixth Sense, I didn’t need to. I guess we needed the gap in between for the story for the last 2 to tie things up. Now it’s cool to watch them all in a binge. I also love that even the kid who played David’s son came back later to play his role again, as well as Elijah’s mom.

You nailed it, the media landscape and the perception of superhero/comic movies were very different a quarter century ago. I remember my mom renting Captain America for me as a kid, it was silly and goofy looking haha. I think that was the 1990 version. Comic adaptations were usually crap other than the first two Batman movies. But, after so long, it can be easy for many of us to forget what things were like back then; or for some, they weren't even alive yet... Now I feel old haha.

I love Unbreakable, and it's the batman sequel. David Dunn is a very interesting person, and not doing what you are made to do can make you depressed or longing for more. I feel if they went for the plane crash, it would have definitely given away a little too soon the twist, plus it might have made people not want to watch it after well the events of 2001. I love Split and bits of Glass. I very much encourage you to cover Spilt and Glass in the future! I watched these films before starting my community college, and they stayed within my mind after Psychology Class. There is so much depth in the films! I remember I liked this film when it came out and was pretty tired of hearing people say it was "good but not at good as the 6th sense" or how they were "looking for the twist". I saw a bio of Rod Serling some time later talking about how much he hated people expecting a twist in all of his work and couldn't help but think Unbreakable suffered for similar reasons. In any event, I always loved the soundtrack for this film, it captures the feeling of David rising to become a hero and finsing who he is in a way that is somehow reserved in it's scale but still triumphant and epic. Reflecting the setting and themes od the film very well, I felt at least.

I think one of the main reasons the movie was not as financially successful as, "Sixth Sense", was the fact the story was a superhero film grounded in reality. Up to that point, the superhero movies the audiences had been exposed to were still based upon comic book fantasy, with over-the-top scenes that you would expect from those type of films. This movie took a more realistic look what if a man had these special gifts but grounded in reality. Of course, then we got its sequels Split and Glass. Love it or hate it this trilogy series really was done quite brilliantly, and sadly the ending of the series could have been better, which I think left audiences with a sense of a letdown. Great video Minty.

It's my favourite movie of Shyamalan's, and I really did like the angle of a 'superheroes, but realistic'. You can actually imagine someone like him existing IRL; naturally gifted with tougher bones and strength, stronger than they appear they should be, and amazing instincts for people, and some people just never seem to get sick. Even his weakness makes sense in context; someone like that IRL would almost certainly have denser bones and musculature, so they'd probably sink. Him getting sick when near drowning could just be considered "Well, they nearly died, it makes sense that even a strong immune system would have issues under those circumstances." It sounds rather plausible, when you take it from that angle. There are in fact people out there with unusual natural talents. Maybe not to the level of surviving deadly accidents without even scratches because 'just that tough', but some people can do some pretty amazing feats, though they usually involve a lot of training.

On the DVD they explain that M. Knight had pretty much an entire pseudo version of The Avengers planned. There were designs for a speedster who was a high school track star, a shapeshifter ex-convict who was a woman, a telepath of some sort, and a Namor/Aquaman like character. All of whom were meant to be in JUST Unbreakable before getting their own films, and eventually a finale team up movie against The Horde and his master, Mister Glass, who was meant to transform into an almost Doctor Doom like character, wearing a protective suit to keep him from getting hurt any further.

This is one of my favorite movies. I had no idea it was a superhero movie when I went to see it but being a comic book geek I settled into it pretty quickly. And I was kicking myself for not knowing how it would end until Elijah said "this is where we shake hands". I should have seen it coming but I fell for the twist. I quietly spergged out when I saw the end of Split with David. Damn shame about Glass though.

You captured the box office problem perfectly. I remember well how this was totally mis-marketed. I didn't know until years later what it was really about, and when I watched it, I was pleasantly shocked.

He absolutely did know about the Superman incident. Even when I was a kid growing up during the 70's teachers and parents would discuss this because they themselves actually grew up when it happened. We were warned. Shyamalan being a GenX'er and a super hero comic book buff watching reruns of Superman on a constant on the weekends as a kid like I did...🤔

People survive plane crashes in real life quite often. That's why there's always that question of where to bury the survivors if it's on an international border. 😅

Loved it! Totally agree on the annoying kid, tho.😖 And it was kinda clear something was missing out of the story (🤨studio execs). Then the major cliff-hanger ending had me holding my breath for years waiting for a sequel... ... ... 😰 By the time it came out, didn't care any more. Will watch some day.

I enjoyed UNBREAKABLE much more than the SIXTH SENSE. Then, of course, I'm a comic book nerd.

I'm one of the people who likes Unbreakable better than The sixth sense, which is a very good movie. I just think Unbreakable is a movie that is more rewatchable. Anyway, great video, Minty.

Don’t forget they were in Glass together (the sequel or 3rd film in the Unbreakable trilogy). Split being the 2nd, but only had Willis in it at the end.

I went to this because Bruce Willis was my favorite actor at the time and I love Sam Jackson. I had no idea what the movie was about. I also happen to be a huge comic fan since 1990. One of the best surprises I've had in the theater.

Best reason I can think of as far as why his kid was acting weird. His parents strained relationship can be a deeper cause than you think. Even if they're being cordial, their kid can feel it just as we do. Imagine trying to be ok with your parents but scared what might happen to them. So you try to hold on to something that you think is a good thing. You want it to be true because then there's something he feels like he can hold on to because right now, he can't hold on to anything else. Not saying it's not weird or off but it can happen.

This is my favorite M. Shamalamadigdong movie by far. Except when Mr. Glass explains all the obvious, I just mute or leave the room when the unfortunate act happens. Thanks again, Australian guy
