As an observer he never interferes with what is happening. So he isn't actually an obstacle. He doesn't even seem to have any real goal as he rarly does something besides watching. Also (at least as far as I know) he never claimed to be beyond good and evil. That was my personal addition.

The "based on Metron" one both is and isn't true. Jim Starlin was originally basing him on Metron but when he'd shown Roy Thomas (Marvel's chief at the time) the designs he said "Why use Metron? If you're going to use one of the New Gods then use Darkseid; the actually good one." so he redone him.

When the character's very own creator says he based him on Darkseid because he was told to then there's literally no debate on the matter. And DC fanboy why? Jim Starlin made the Thanosi clones to retcon the Ka-Zar and Thor stories that featured Thanos because those stories ignored Thanos character development at the end of Infinity Gauntlet, regressing him into a thuggish villain.

Don't forget that Thanos is a distant cousin of the Eternals, who (sort of) took inspiration from roman and greek gods. As such their culture is influenced by (or possibly influenced) pagan culture of which Satanalia the festival that the Christmas Tree originated from. So the Titans were probably putting up trees and giving December gifts BEFORE Christians appropriated the custom.

Difficult to answer giving the many different versions of Darkseid and also Thanos' fluctuating power level. If you go by Darkseid in the new DC universe, Darkseid takes it every time. Before the new DC universe is another story. If you look at Thanos his multiple interactions with beings like Galactus and Odin, he's just below Skyfather level (Odin). Which means he can fuck up an entire Avengers team if he wants to, without any stone.

I see multiple people claiming that thanos is a darksid rip off. Frankly, he may have been based around him. But he's not a direct rip off. I see this with so many characters. For example people who would claim quicksilver is a rip off of flash simply because they have the same super power. Yea marvel does have some direct rip offs of DC. But when does this ideology end? I've seen people try to claim that iron man is a rip off of batman. Like honestly people ease it up on the claims. Just because too characters have similar powers and or motives doesn't mean one is a direct rip off of the other.
