You forgot to mention Grant Morrison's (very weird) run on Animal Man. His family is massacred and Animal Man goes on a long quest to find the killer, who turns out to be... Grant Morrison. Grant Morrison wrote himself into the story. He explains to Animal Man in the last issue of his run that Animal Man is a comic book character, and that he, Grant Morrison, writes his life. Then he brings Animal Man's family back. Just because. (Grant Morrison technically became a canon character, so they killed him off in Suicide Squad.)
@NoJusticeNoPeace7 жыл бұрын
+Jeremiah Elijah It's even weirder than that. Grant Morrison explains to Animal Man that he killed his family because he was feeling depressed about the death of his cat. And says in the real world he can't bring his cat back, so he doesn't see why Animal Man should get his family back, but decides to do so anyway. Because Grant Morrison is a kindly writer.
@coolkorsah17 жыл бұрын
How did Animal Man react after hearing all of that?
@NoJusticeNoPeace7 жыл бұрын
+coolkorsah1 Grant explains to Animal Man that he has no free will, that as a comic book character he's forced to do whatever his writer wants him to. For instance, Grant says, the next writer could force Animal Man to become a meat-eater. Animal Man protests that he'd never do that, that's he's a die-hard vegetarian, to which Grant responds, "No, _I_ am a vegetarian. You're whatever your writer wants you to be." And proceeds to demonstrate this by forcing Animal Man to do all kinds of out-of-character things. It's all very surreal and existential. If you read Grant Morrison's legendary run on Doom Patrol or are familiar with The Invisibles, then you know what to expect. Bear in mind that Gran Morrison is both a shaman and a mystic, so for him these characters are archetypal entities. Animal Man is real for him. The discussion he's having with Animal Man is the actual discussion he's having inside his head with the Animal Man archetype.
@coolkorsah17 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Thanks for the insight.

Why is Aunt May so old? She's Peter's aunt, not his great grandmother. There's one thing the movies fixed.
@Erdrick687 жыл бұрын
That's what I kept saying about people bitching about Marisa Tomei. Peter Parker is a teenager, Even if we were to take the absolute extremes of sibling age difference, there is no way he'd have an 80 year old aunt.

@IronChefWince7 жыл бұрын
Mihail Doychinov I thought the same thing too
@Bluesit327 жыл бұрын
Mihail Doychinov Originally, no. Originally, the punch from Superboy Prime swapped the corpse of Jason Todd with an alternate reality Jason where he survived (as shown by having a side by side of the panels, one where Batman is cradling his corpse, the other with him crying out, "There's a pulse! Thank God!" So Todd wakes up in his coffin. Using training and comic book bullshittery, he escapes his grave, but has suffered brain damage both from the beating/explosion and the oxygen deprivation that occurred in his casket. Talia Al'Ghul finds him and, during one of Ra's's Lazarus baths, pushes him in. This cures his brain damage, but also gives him a white streak in his hair and makes him slightly deranged.

Yeah, but Marvel done it first and then DC copied it. Basically Marvel, a year before, had revealed Cap was shot by a weird science bullet that trapped him in the timeline to be brought back by the Red Skull and had completely told it months before DC "came up with" the idea to have the exact same situation explain how Batman could come back. Both were ridiculous but DC just copied their ridiculous version. xD

Exactly, Oliver Queen was brought back by one of the top 5 most powerful beings in all of existence. If they wanted to use his resurrection in this list how about mentioning that he was brought back without a soul because his soul refused to comeback.
@Black_Rook7 жыл бұрын
Erdrick68 Yeah, technically the Hal Jordan Spectre just rebuilt Oliver's body from a sample of his DNA (the drop of blood), while Oliver (his soul) was quite content with being dead and refused to return to the world of the living. Eventually the soul was forced to reinhabit the body (which was a 10 years younger version of Ollie) to avoid a nutjob transferring their own soul into the body to extend their own lifespan (and also to save Ollie's son Connor)
@Black_Rook7 жыл бұрын
Also, Oliver's death wasn't stupid, he was trying to disarm the bomb but it had a failsafe that actually trapped Oliver's arm in the mechanism so he couldn't leave the plane. Superman offered to save him by severing his arm and flying him out, but Ollie (who at this point was in a bad place in his life after multiple problems such as killing a criminal, albeit accidentally, and Black Canary leaving him) chose to continue to try to disarm the bomb rather than be dis-armed himself, even though he knew he'd most likely fail and die, because he sort of craved death by this point and wanted a good death, dying a hero

No, I don't have any harsh feelings about this mind-numbingly stupid plot device. Why do you ask?

In fairness to Superboy-Prime, Geoff Johns used him has a very effective tool to comment on the stupidity of the grim-dark era of comics. Unfortunately 90% of the other writers and especially the editor in chief Dan DiDio were moronic twats (DiDio especially, who truly doesn't understand what makes any character popular) and were unable to comprehend this. Superboy-Prime really only became meme worthy after Infinite Crisis.

The dead members of the original Legion Of Super-Heroes are still dead. In "Legion Of Three Worlds" they brought back a version of the original Legion (basically it was The Legion if "Crisis On Infinite Earths" hadn't happened). One thing that set the Original Legion apart from other comics is that the dead remained dead. The dead members were: Ferro Lad, Invisible Kid (Lyle Norg), Chemical King, Karate Kid (Val Armorr), and Two Thirds Of Triplicate Girl.

To be fair, the Batman writers killed off Alfred and intended to keep him that way. Shortly after his death, Alan Napier portrayed Alfred in Adam West's Batman, and he was so popular, the writers felt the need to resurrect him. So the flimsy plot is mainly an effort to undo what was not intended to be undone. Some of those plots are weird, but it is better than having them just turn up and "Whoops, not really dead no reasoning".

Correction: Superman wasn't beaten into a healing coma. He was DEAD. He was brought back because Pa Kent (who had a heart attack after his son died) convinced Clark's soul he wasn't done with this world, and as a Kryptonian, he shouldn't die as easily as a human does. Then Superman's soul re-entered his body, which helped Eradicator bring him back to life. The only person who claimed it was a healing Coma was Superman himself, and Eradicator, Doctor Occult, and a scientist friend of his all tell him "Nah, homie, you was dead."

Why was Alfred killed off? To try to end the gay rumors. In "Seduction of the Innocent", Dr. Fredric Wertham charged that Batman and Robin were "a wish-dream of two homosexuals living together" because they once sat on the couch together with their jackets and ties off. (That's not me being a smartass, that was literally Wertham's proof.) So Alfred was killed, and Dick's long-lost Aunt Harriet moved into Wayne Manor so DC could say, "No, there's nothing weird going on, Aunt Harriet is keeping an eye on them," hoping nobody noticed that Bruce and Dick were already doing a bang-up job of keeping a major secret from her.

Adam, you need to do more comic videos. The others guys are fine, no offense to them, but you’re by far the most entertaining

When you said Aunt May, I thought you were going to talk about the time when she was killed by an assassin and Mary Jane Watson and Spiderman sold their marriage to the devil to resurrect her.

What about the end of Frank Miller's Batman series? After the Knightfall Initiative and the explosion of Wayne Manor, Alfred literally dies of a heart attack as he watches the house burn, musing about the time he served as Bruce Wayne's butler. He doesn't come back to life in Frank's series, but I thought it was a good ending to a long time, stalwart friend.

Jean Gray died and was resurrected something like seven times before Superman, so don't blame "comic book death" on him.

I'd like to give a more recent shout out to good ol' Eobard Thawne for being turned to a pile of bones and yellow spandex rags by Doctor Manhattan, then healing because NEGATIVE SPEED FORCE! He couldn't survive a broken neck before, now he comes back from near disintegration by a GOD LIKE ENTITY?

Marvel really needs to forget about LMDs. Using them once is ok, using them 100 times is just god awful.
