The first time I watched this I was 6 years old. My parents took me to see it at the drive in. A+ parenting, because it scared me so bad I became a horror movie lover for life. I loved the gore, Zelda, “no fair,” everything. I just recently watched Pet Sematary for the first time in over 25 years. When Gage gets hit by the truck and the aftermath, I was bawling. Bawling as I thought of my own young children. You definitely watch it through a new lens. It’s such a dark, beautiful, and tragic story.

What affected me the most about this movie wasn't so much the horror of factor of the movie because it was more of the emotional side of this movie. Because no mother or father should ever have to lose a child. And honestly I felt very sorry for the good doctor grieving over his son who he lost and that had me very emotional and in tears. Because honestly that's the saddest ever. And yes he was told not to bury his son in the Pet Sematary but simultaneously I understand that's he's not thinking clearly because he's grieving for his son. And grief makes people do very unrational things. So to me to lose a child would be the greatest horror ever for any parent to experience. Cuz I'm pretty sure if I ever had to lost a child I would be terribly sad too. And nobody really knows what they're going to do when they're in a state of grief.

Sammy Lane The book is even worse. Louis has Gage pinned down as hard as he can press down on him, but Gage is wiggling and Louis compares him to a wet fish and he has to act quickly before Gage squirms free. He plunges the morphine into Gage and sinks the plunger completely. Gage gets up and dazedly walks to his dad. Gage falls to his knees in front of him and Louis sees the face of Gage....the real Gage who screams in pain, “Daddy!” Gage then dies. Louis screams in terror, crawls into a corner and cries as he sucks his thumb.

I always thought that it was pretty cool that the big, tall man across the street played the role of Herman Munster, on the original Munsters in the 60's. Still looked good for his age. Zelda was definitely one of the scarier moments for me. I also had trouble watching Gauge slice the old man's Achilles Tendon with a scalpel. That scene just looked too real for me at that age. I swear it made Zelda 1000 times more scary!!! Most times, with Stephen, I like to read the book first, because they always leave important stuff out! The Shining is a great example of doing it wrong and then Stephen doing it right! The first one was truly terrifying, but you can not beat Rebecca Demornay when it comes to a strong horror actress. Having Ellie Creed back in the 2nd film would have been a great idea for the movie. She comes back as a teenager and in a way finds out what happened to her family and puts an end to the cursed burial ground that tore her family apart. While the 2nd movie isn't the best, its still no doubt enjoyable. The first movie was so disturbing but awesome and creepy. My brother got creeped out and can't even sit and watch the movie with his feet touching the floor (mainly when Gage cuts at the neighbors Achilles tendon). Also, Bruce Campbell would have been an interesting choice, but the guy they choice was perfect all the same.

Brian Durant With Pet Sematary for me, it's more the atmosphere, the demonic rebirths and a few odds and ends, Zelda was freaky and that score with all the flashbacks was impressive. With Stephen King, this one and Cujo are the only ones that still manage to give me the chills. Yet anytime a foreboding or villainous character looks directly at the screen, like the clown did in the IT shower scene and Storm of the Century during that dream sequence / news flash foreshadowing what may happen by the end, those things can still be pretty freaky too!

I remember reading the book as a teen and it turned out as a real time horror for me. It was in the winter and I usually got up on my own and was reading this book during breakfast. I had to get off to school and since I was living in this building whole my life, I knew my way and did not turn on the light. I had to cross a hallway, which connects the flats of my parents and my late grandmother. And just when I reached for the doorknob to open the door to the stairway, I was touched by something and screamed like hell. It turned out that my granny had used the bathroom (the door to the right) - she too had not turned on the light. She screamed too and my mother, who heared us both screaming came to look what happened. I felt awful the whole day....

Minty, being an Ex-Victorian, I saw Pet Sematary at the Greater Union cinema in Russell street in 1989, when I was 19. It really creeped me out, and I'm a self-confessed horror tragic. Every time Pascow ghost snuck into a scene, we just shat! I've always thought that the producers should have filmed the accident resulting in how Pascow got to critical condition before he died. But perhaps it was, based on this trivia from IMDB: "The original cut of the film delivered to Paramount's executives was judged to be too long, so excess footage had to be removed. They also decided that the closing scene was too tame and at their request it was re-shot to be more graphic". I wonder if the director has the original print archived somewhere? Would love to see a 30th anniversary director's cut of this film! But Fred Gwynne was excellent as Jud, and the scene of Gage slicing his Achilles with the scalpel, was up there with the pencil through the ankle in Evil Dead [1981]. Not all horror movies have happy endings, and Pet Sematary certainly did not; and maybe that's what makes it totally f*cking awesome! And as another poster in this thread already stated; the last 30 minutes or so of this film are absolutely horrifying. And for those who want more, the making of Pet Sematary documentary has recently been released: Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary (2017)

First of all; Stephen King, not Steven King. Second of all, Clancy Brown, not Clancey Brown. Third of all; Pet Sematary II has pretty much nothing to do with the original idea and it's just an attempt to cash in and it had quite mixed reviews- not a success to say the least.

I named my cat Church / Winston Churchill after the cat in Pet Sematary heh. Mostly because when he was a baby he liked to sit on a Stephen King book I had in my room, so I wanted to name him after something King related and that was the first thing that came to mind. When I rescued a little of kittens the year after that I named some of them after King characters, too: Mr Grey, Rosalie, and Blaze.

The movies, both the original with Denise Crosby and the newer remake, are good, but the novel is absolutely terrifying! I’ve read and own every book he’s written, but none disturbed me more than Pet Cemetery. Maybe because I’m a cat lover, but likely because Stephen King is an amazing author. Way to go, Steven! Poor Gage, he seeked revenge on his parents because they didn't watch him by a busy road known to kill many beloved pets, feeling guilty his father buries him in the sacred Indian burial ground and brings him back. This movie was hard for me to watch because at that time my 2 year old nephew lived with us. The movie made me think about my nephew-and how horrifying losing loved ones especially children must be. On a lighter note, a few pointers for the Creed family. 1. If you have toddlers-don't buy a house next to a busy highway filled with truck traffic. 2. If you bought said house, for God's sake put a fence up since you can't seem to keep track of your toddler. (You're both professionals, you can afford it.) 3. Refuse Hermann Munster's offer to bury your dead cat at an Indian burial ground. 4. Say 'No!' when your stylist recommends a 90's bob hairstyle.
