Only need 8 of these. Studio monitors aren't a necessity and if you're "room" isn't treated well then you're better off mixing with headphones as the monitors will give u a false representation of the true sound. And u don't need a midi keyboard/interface

I appreciate the brevity of laying out the essentials, AND think it's worth mentioning room treatment and sound proofing. If you put all of this gear in a room with no absorption or deflection, you'll be limited in your ability to accurately mix.
@inlovingmemoryofdouglasmul52163 жыл бұрын
Yah exactly what I just commented in which case you can take monitors off the list because you are better off mixing with the proper headphones.

One of the most important and least talked about necessities is a ups battery backup, like an APC. You'll know why the first time your power goes out and your speakers pop and you lose all your progress (or potentially damage your gear) You'll also consume less electricity and keep the energy flow consistent. Which will save you money and make your system less noisy during minor power spikes. It's honestly pretty stupid not to have one. Every decent engineer I've ever met wouldn't dare turn their gear on without it

@PRODUCEMUSICNOW Жыл бұрын
I’d probably buy outboard gear very last. Maybe an outboard mic preamp after you have a great vocal mic, but I definitely would stick with software plugins for things like compression, EQ, reverb, delay, etc. You’ll get awesome results with stock software plugs if you know what you’re doing

If you’re recording with microphones, you will need headphones. You need to be able to hear your click track and the other tracks you’re playing along to. If you play that through your monitors, the microphone will also pick up the monitors and you’ll end up with a big mess

I'm creating a home studio, but is it necessary to have monitors, I don't even have enough space in my bedroom to fit them? If I don't buy them will it affect my music recordings?
@PRODUCEMUSICNOW3 жыл бұрын
You realistically don’t NEED monitors, but they do make life a lot easier. In your situation, I’d buy a pair of open-back mixing headphones and use those in place of monitors. Make sure you spend a good amount of time just listening to music with them though, so you get used to how finished music sounds on them. I’d also make sure you’re pulling a “reference mix” into your mixing sessions and constantly compare your mix to the reference mix. That way you’ll make sure you’re getting your low end, high end, and all that correct when mixing your tracks. Then also periodically switch between your mixing headphones and some generic earbud headphones to make sure your tracks sound good on multiple sets of speakers. If you do that, you’ll be fine without monitors. I did this for like 2 years when I was first getting into it

@PRODUCEMUSICNOW Жыл бұрын
In a perfect world, I’d probably get some bass traps and stack them in all four corners of the room from floor to ceiling. Then on the actual walls, I’d put 2 2x4ft panels on the 10ft walls and put 3 of them on each of the 12 foot walls. That would probably put you in a great spot. If thats too expensive, I’ve gotten away with duct taping my bed comforter onto the back wall to cover as much of it as possible. Moving blankets also work. I still do that from time to time depending on where I’m at at the moment.
