I recently had my blood tested, because I have been so tired, drained, weak. My doctor said that all my numbers were in the normal range so it might be psychological issues.. (?!) Knowing myself, I knew this was not the case. I also asked him if I am entering menopause. He said, well are you still menstruating? I said yes. (I am 48). Well then you are not menopausal! Then I did some studies myself and found out, there is something called "perimenopause". Apparently he did not know to inform me of that ☺️ I am now seeing a bio-identical hormone therapist. Not only was my hormones very low, but also my metabolism. So now we are addressing that and I feel better already! Thank you Dr. Susan, we need more dr's like you, in Europe as well 🙏❤️

I’m 61 & have been on biodentical pellets for about 5 years. My provider asked me to switch my estradiol from the pellet to oral because she said it was more protective for my heart & the dose would stay consistent. I’d prefer it in the pellet because it’s easier than taking a pill every morning so I asked to switch back to pellet form. They totally discouraged that & said it would cost more & they were trying not to charge more. Now I’m wondering if they just wanted me to take it orally to keep their cost down.

Dr Susan, I am 66 years old. 51 last period. Menopause wasn't too bad, but today I'm having hot flashes and irritable. I called my Gynecologist to see if I could have blood work and see her PA. The nurse called back and said blood work at my age wasn't necessary. I felt stupid. What would you do?

This is incredibly helpful information. I plan to re-watch so I can absorb it all. I'm happy that a lot of what I heard my functional medicine dr has recommended. The sad thing is genetic testing is not covered under a lot of insurance and it's $$. So checking for the Alzheimer or breast cancer gene is not always possible, at leastthats been my experience. Thank you for this!

Hi Susan, I am 65 and found out actually by accident about the misinformation on HRT. I went to my GP and asked for HRT and that I understood I would only get some of the benefits. We are all different so who knows what all I can benefit. She put up a bit of an argument, but I insisted, and she gave in. She would not give me testosterone. I went to a GYN./ Menopause specialist. She refused as well saying with my age I could have some plaque build-up that could cause a lot of problems. I had a heart scan along with all the other tests with it and was told I was fine. I am very healthy for 65 other than all of the symptoms of menopause I'm dealing with. I do feel better with the low dose of estrogen. I just got the dose increased. What are your thoughts on Testosterone for someone my age?

Without knowing your medical history, I can't comment specifically on your case, but I certainly plan to take estradiol , progesterone and testosterone until the end of life!

I’ve been going to a functional medicine doctor now and I am happy to see that much of what you said is what she has been recommending for me. It’s a lot to absorb but so much more in depth than going to my regular dr.

Great and timely info on LDL and LPa...I just had labs done and my APoB/HDL are great but my LDL and LPa are slightly high. Just requested the Calcium Heart Scan... it's incredible the fight i go through when dealing with ignorant Cleveland Clinic doctors on these tests! I recently found a Functional Med CNP via NAMS and an paying out of pocket for visits. My breaking point with CC was the dang TRT, which they refused for "FDA Reasons" LOL I'm back on my T compound cream (from Belmar) and feeling back to my normal. The struggle for sound care is real! Next time I'm in Houston, I'm making an appointment with you. After establishing care, can you treat out of state??

Dr Susan Do you think that HRT creams are safer & more effective than the patch? I’m using that patch now but interested in the cream. Thank you!❤️
@drsusan

The patch is a great choice and much more reliable than creams -so I would prefer a patch over the cream personally!

Susan, what the whi study taught us is that low fat diets in women with existing heart disease, had poorer outcomes than women with heart disease who didn't change their diets.

I think the WHI taught us a lot .... but in my opinion, we need to move on and look at more modern research!

my doctor started me on T injs 60mg (i think its mg) biweekly. no Est or Prog, will test levels to see if T convert any Est. I am post menopause, we did this method once b4, est was below 15, started me on 1mg est pill. he said prog not needed. never heard that b4 only if dont have a uterus, which i do have 🤔

If you have a uterus and you are taking estrogen, you absolutely need to take progesterone with it for prevention of uterine cancer, and the safest way to take estrogen is not by mouth since that increases the risk of blood clotting

There are many brands and you can choose whichever one you prefer. I've never heard of the side effect before, but I would check with your provider.

I’m on 200 mg progesterone, had labs drawn last week and it shows estrogen total serum 140. No other results. Is that wnl? She’s starting me on oral estradiol 2 mg and cream testosterone bc the cream estrogen wasn’t absorbing into my skin. I hope I’m on the right path. Please let me know if you have time💕

If you are post menopausal, we don't recommend taking estrogen early because that increases the risk of blood clotting so switching to a transdermal form would be safest for you, but that sounds like a very appropriate level. Generally I like to stay somewhere between 50 and 100 but that is close I would just not take it in the oral form. I don't like creams because they absorption is so various able, but you may want to consider switching to a patch or a pellet.
