okay but the overexpressing one, in theatre your audience has to see your expression from all the way in the back, Barbara is in theatre, that's a performance of her probably promoting a musical.

I also call bollocks. Barbara was overdoing her expression. I know lots of theatrical people and they are never taught to do random expressions. Barbara in this clip was look angry rather than happy or gleeful in fact.
@jolennon86295 жыл бұрын
@@knightenchanter7908 But Barbra sang it ironically during the 60s. The video is from 63 and she wasn't promoting any play. It really wasn't a great performance. You should compare it to her performances on The Gary Moore Show (1962), her My Name Is Barbra tv special (1965) or her Central Park concert (1968). Search for Happy Days Are Here Again and the names I said above.

@@jolennon8629 if it was intended to be random rather than her doing it unintentionally then my bad, I stand corrected. I'm not very familiar with Barbara or her filmography so I was just commenting on this one. I was also just pointing out that while theatre requires quite intricate usage of facial expressions, random ones just don't fly by and aren't correct or recommended. But if it's intended to be comical and ironic then it's probably fine.

The thing about not doing facial expressions is wrong because singing is such a powerful thing emotionally. It's more about your mechanism is designed to provide, so the flow of air coming up through the neck can pass without problems. When you sing, a tone air flows up past, your vocal cords. They can expand as needed, the more they expanding, the higher notes you're able to sing. As well as, they can expand, they also can compress. And when they do so, you are able to sing lover notes, no vocal cords, are the same so you might discover, that you can sing more, deeper tones than higher tones. or, vice versa.

Just because you sing karaoke doesn't mean you don't have the creativity to come up with your own song/version. Out of all the things it could mean, it could mean you like the version you heard and want to sing it. Also Lady Gaga had a brief growling moment that actually sounded pretty cool when it's listened to with the whole song and not individually replayed. Nevertheless, funny video! ;)

Most of these people are professional singers and have no business karaokeing any other artist's songs. It would be okay to sing a well known version of a song and cover it because you like it (For example singing Mariah Carey's version of I'll Be There instead of The Jackson Five's), but it's a completely different scenario to choose a random ass cover of a popular song and then sing it exactly the same way at a huge concert. I doubt Sarah gave credit and I know damn well that crowd didn't know about Yolanda's version beforehand. She didn't even just copy the melody changes, she literally tried to sing like her.

She is the one who started it and made it famous in pop music influencing a generation of singers and Beyonce is just one of them. Beyonce herself admits, she was influenced by Mariah Carey. But I love them both. :)

Mik K that’s what I thought. 😩 ugh! I only went 46 secs into this video I couldn’t take it. I’m out! Lol 😆
@rishabhrox15 жыл бұрын
That's a myth, and a dangerous one because it sets unrealistic standards for vocalists. Being extra is like a cherry on top of a cake, you CAN be extra but even if you don't be it doesn't undermine your vocal skills. Barbra was NEVER extra with her vocals, but she can school all singers who came after her when it comes to vocal technique and longevity. Interpretation of a song is more important than screaming your lungs out. Once in a while it's cool to be extra but to make that a habit is unhealthy and shouldn't be promoted.
@rishabhrox15 жыл бұрын
And I know that you're black and your extra-ness comes from Church mostly (talking in vocal terms), but not every great singer has to come from Church. In fact, the gospel genre, as important and respectable it is, isn't everyone's taste and not easy to listen to outside of a stage on records or stuff. I don't mean this in a bad way, but being extra really is overrated. You can croon a sweet lullaby and Jesus will still hear you, you can growl and wail and he still won't if you're just singing for putting up a show. It is about the genuineness and feel in the song and not just about who can scream higher and longer.
@HoopCITY765 жыл бұрын
rishabhrox1 To piggyback off your own statements, what you have issue with is exactly what makes music art form it is. Artists will always be inspired by those who’ve come before them but that doesn’t necessarily mean trying to duplicate them. Let the artists be the individuals they are and the reason we love them.

Billy Gorr ugh! I like Celine but she's too much of a show off sometimes. In that instance for example, such a disrespect for the Queen of Soul. Her belts may sound effortless but they are unsupported and the technique was horrible. What a mess!

Vine Lee Arethas we’re legitimately screamed. Celines whilst unsupported, she used a heady mix and maintained a neutral larynx without straining.
@alyssawelker8709 жыл бұрын
A lot of this was so true...but now I feel I gotta add my two cents. The reason this video even exists is because there's a huge push in today's music, especially R&B, to have these huge ranges with huge belts. Girls are /killing/ themselves in order to try and hit these sometimes impossible notes. To be honest some of what was on this video actually sounded fine to me. But one thing's for sure. All this crazy screaming/belting will definitely kill your voice! As a singer with a less than impressive belt, I feel pressured into learning how to nail really high notes and I find it hard to come to terms with the fact that my voice naturally may just not allow me to do it. And when I do go for it, I feel judged, which only makes me tighten up and everything worse. You can be a good, healthy singer without a crazy belt. But society doesn't believe that. You can hear the crowds in the audience. They go nuts for big notes. I wish people could see that there's more to singing than that. Like Karen Carpenter. She had one of the smoothest, most beautiful tones. But no one really cares because she doesn't belt. It's sad, really.
@Ignasimp9 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Welker I agree with you that you can be a masterful singer whithout doing belting (all opera singers are great examples of that). And also in pop music. Apart from that, belting it's a technique that everybody can learn to do. Don't give up if you wan't to achieve it because "my voice naturally may just not allow me to do it" it's a wrong concept that will make it even more difficult to you to achieve it.
@MrLarrier9 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Welker well I think very few singers have truly beautiful and unique voice, so they feel the pressure to do something extraordinary. I don't know if they really listen to themselves afterward.
@Ignasimp9 жыл бұрын
lalo I really don't find having a unique voice something that important. And having a beautiful voice it's a subjective thing. So the important thing here is to have controll and technique to be able to use the voice at it's maximum capabilities.
@MrLarrier9 жыл бұрын
Ignasi Martí Palet well that may be true but I don't know if that's enough to be successful or not. To me it must be either you have a great pleasant voice or brilliant and perfect technique with impressively wide range. Some divas who have both of them like Whitney, Lara and Mariah are those I'm most interested in. But it's just my opinion.
@Ignasimp9 жыл бұрын
lalo i thought we were talking about good singers, not succesful ones' s. And the singers you named had amazing technique.

Her drug use was a big problem for her and it would have been ok if you joked in another with Whitney like you did the other singer's but the drug use hit Whitney's legacy way below the belt. I also don't want to hear any comments talking about (Don't take the video serious) personally is it was Mariah or Xtina you guys would be doing the same. Much love and peace to you all.

Katia Olivares explain why Beyoncé is overrated, bet you can’t
@katiaolivares46916 жыл бұрын
Because she's not a creative performer that gives anything original or revolutionary to the music industry, she's a good vocalist but all her songs sound vapid and similar at some point, people admires her more because of her feminist ideals than her vocal qualities (which are a lot, but still) and she has a very self centered personality (as I could witness in her own HBO documentary). She's not flawless, she's a great performer and the fact that she stayed in the music industry for 20 years speaks for itself, but she didn't really evolve as an artist nor owns an artistry on her own. She's the best of the worst in the thrash that pop music became. But still this is all imo, so enjoy her music.
@kyddoniko6 жыл бұрын
Katia Olivares clearly you haven’t done a lick of research. Beyoncé is anything but overrated. She’s admired based on her work ethic over anything. Watch a documentary and you’ll understand.
