About the plastic cutlery, I think they might go into the new "Wertstofftonne" in Düsseldorf (some other cities have that model as well). A lot of that stuff is probably not exactly "recycled" (usually downcycled into lower quality material) but burnt, depending on how easy it is to get value out of it. It works well for PET bottles with deposit (25ct Einwegpfand) as they come well-separated, not so much for the Gelbe Tonne which holds a mix of materials.

Cool video, thanks guys. What I hate the most is tearing the plastic "window" from the paper envelope. But I still do it.
@simplegermany10 сағат бұрын
No need! It’s not real plastic an can be recycled with the paper 😊

The bags we get for compost/bio müll in Australia have the opposite problem, they start degrading before the bin is full

As a student it’s best to ask your university for student dorms or look for a shared apartment called WG 😊

Thank you! I would like to ask if it would be possible to do a video on how to go about being a freelancer in Germany. I have found a tax advisor but apparently they are not allowed to give advice on either the pension that , as a teacher, I have to pay, or the health insurance I need to have. (I did have the health insurance called expat health insurance but I would like to have the public one. ). I understand that we need to get a special tax number for our own business but everything is in German and even with google translate, Elster doesn’t help me much and I know I need to do it with 4 weeks 😮…. Should I start my business later or not is the question!

No we don’t. It’s enough if they are ‘spoon clean’. 😊

My biggest anxiety is milk cartons. Once I tear off the plastic spout, the rest seems to be paper and OK for recycling. Am I doing it wrong?
@simplegermany18 сағат бұрын
Milk cartons always go into plastic as a whole 😊

Waste separation and recycling has nothing to do with ecosystem and environment though. Its just about economy. If you separate, you might help the economy by converting waste to a useful material and if you dont, it will be converted to useful energy. Actually, companies decide whether they should recycle or burn it based on the market values for energy vs recycled materials.

Maybe the process to make something reusable puts out the same amount of emissions as burning it, but my gut tells me burning rubbish = bad

Your number 9 with the “Teelichter” makes little to no sense to me. I have seen other reports, even from ARD and ZDF, that try to tell the consumer that even aluminum foil used to wrap a grilled chicken or a Döner can not be recycled because of [food] contamination. By common sense logic such assertions are completely bonkers! When aluminum first gets mined and extracted it is contaminated far worse than with a little bit of wax or fat. It gets purified during the smelting process, where high heat melts the raw aluminum with the contaminants. During this process the contaminants either burn off or separate by density from the molten aluminum. For recycling the aluminum gets smelted again, a process that purifies the aluminum in the same manner as the initial extraction process: burning off and separation by density. It is analogous for all the other common metals that we use in our daily life.
