Surprised Twisted Metal wasn't on this list. That's a franchise that went through the wringer, had a positive comeback with Twisted Metal Black, and then went no where. The last game was in 2012. It is a series that can and should be brought back. Gearbox probably has the best chance to do the game justice since they have really interesting shooting mechanics, decent car driving, and good art style if they use the Borderlands engine. As long as they don't make the same mistakes as Twisted Metal (2012) did it would be amazing.

The cancellation of Silent Hills must have been one-off the biggest mistakes in many many years. The game could have been so great.

It could be a amazing horror game, but after Playing mgsv and dead stranding you can see that kojima stop making stories in game for gameplay/engines, and silent hill was always a story focus games so pt would be a awesome scary game but a really bad silent hill

The bigger mistake was the "year of Silent Hill" which was to see Silent Hill HD Collection, Silent Hill Book of Memories, and Silent Hill Downpour all within the same year. Not only did Silent Hill HD turn out to be a disaster on all fronts, but Book of Memories and Downpour weren't well received anyway.

What I'm seeing here are great things, created by small teams. Teams like cowboys, in the wild west of a brand new form of entertainment. What they created, they didn't always expect it to be beloved by people across the world. Pulling out more from those things now isn't just trying to put lightning in a bottle, it's like like having two lightning bolts in a bottle and trying to figure out how they reproduce.

I think Driver deserves to be on this list. The two originals were some of the most compelling games on PS1. But when GTA3 became popular they tried to make Driver compete with GTA instead of maintaining its own identity. What resulted was the awful Driv3r, and despite a relatively successful Driver: San Francisco the series has never really recovered.

Breath of FIre is also one of those franchises that was forgotten and then only to bring it back as a mobile cashgrab. Also that opening sentence for Battlefront could be used for any EA touched franchise. They have a nice trackrecord for that.

The one thing about Metal Gear Survive that everyone seems to omit or just plain forget when discussing its ignominious existence is that the devs hated working on it too. They were there to basically continue earning a paycheck due to Konami's draconian practices towards ex-employees. They even snuck in an easter egg as an F-U to Konami as a clipboard with names arranged in a way to spell out "KJP (Kojima Productions) Forever." Also, great work as always, Jules.

I'm rather surprised that Star Fox didn't get mentioned on this list, especially with the amount of backlash that Star Fox Zero got; despite being a decent game, people treated it as being among the worst Wii U titles ever released. And of course, there's the matter of Slippy, where people frequently call him an expendable joke.

Zero is understandably divisive. I physically couldn't even play it ( my autism made it impossible to deal with the way it did dual screens and I just never could do the awkward gyro crap ), and I know I'm not alone there. Not to mention it was also another remake of the original ( yes, 64 is a remake... )

Suikoden: A Konami JRPG series where the gimmick was having 108 character to find and recruit. I would love for Konami to do PC ports of all the old games into one collection. Konami doesn't give a sh!t about making video games anymore, they prefer to make gambling machines and only make games to keep the copyright and trademark of their IP. I doubt we will ever get any ports of their older games anytime soon, but even if we did they would be half ar$ed trash.

Sonic unleashed was the last great sonic game, it had fun levels gorgeous landscape design and amazing music. To say it was a part of the downward spiral just sounds crazy to me. But he’s right about Ubisoft messing up with ray man, Ubisoft seems to screw up a lot of their big name games.

actually while you're right that Conker debuted on N64 character wise ( Diddy Kong Racing ), his 1st solo game was on Game Boy Color with Conker's Pocket Tales....Bad Fur Day is just more widely & fondly remembered. also: F-Zero ( ffs Nintendo, F-Zero does not need some asinine gimmick to warrant a new game... ) Chibi-Robo ( again, ffs Nintendo....the 1st game is beloved for a damn reason ) Paper Mario ( just....WHY Intelligent Systems & Nintendo? Conker on 64 was not the first release of conker, it was actually the conker game for gameboy that indeed was for children, and which I absolutely loved, which made it so much more awesome when hearing about the nintendo version that was more R-rated

I feel like this list could be infinite. Honorable Mentions for me: Marvel vs Capcom: Forgot the X-Men, Fantastic 4, & other Capcom franchises exist and made Chun Li look like a sex doll that got stung by bees in the face. Dead or Alive: Monetized outfits to rediculous degrees and undercooked their latest release despite delaying it. Made it impossible to buy the full content in the game w/o a chart and 200,000 dollars. Also octracized the game and fanbase from one of the biggest tournaments on a really weird marketing stunt but considering the weird business going on with said tournament, all of it is just a really cringe moment for so many more reasons. Street Fighter: Forgot to have single player content and forgot to have a decent online experience to make up for the lack of single player content. It's since been fixed but damn. Final Fantasy: Doesn't know how to make a game with all the story content in the single game. The quality of story telling is really all over the map. Each entry leaves the fanbase more divided than the US regarding any political issue. (Could be wrong but I just don't get it.) Shenmue: Doesn't know how to read the room and end a story properly. Also doesn't know what the fanbase wants in terms of gameplay. Actually de evolved for the next entry. Kingdom Hearts: Also doesn't know how to do coherent story telling. Never knew how to tell the whole story of a the game series on one console generation to not leave people jumping between consoles. (Could be wrong but I just don't get it.) Mass Effect: Led people on to the ending that blue balled harder than a drunk Sonic playing Dark Souls after taking viagra. It's been 4 hours, Tails, Amy call a doctor and not Robotnik. Also Andromeda called and its face is tired from everything. Dynasty Warriors: Can make decent crossover games with other fanchises while its own franchise kinda pooped itself in its last entry if I'm not mistaken. Pokemon: Using the same plot since the 1990s. Not really pushing graphical boundaries and still insisting on releasing two versions of the same game for some reason despite them costing $60 each and charging for DLC. (Could be wrong but I just don't get it.) Power Stone, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers and Virtua Fighter Fans still exist despite Sega and Capcom's insistence that they dont'

Oooph, that Diablo Immortal. I don't get why they went with "Do you not have phones?" line. They could've easily have gone with something along the lines of "Right now, it's just mobile but who knows, maybe if fan demand is there, we can also put it on PC." Instead of a "no" people here a "maybe" and it encourages fans to speak up, driving up further engagement of the game online (which is free publicity, the best kind because it cannot be ad-blocked). And it's ultimately what they ended up doing anyway!

I have always considered Devil May Cry / DMC 4 to be a prologue game from before the first game, showing a younger Dante, explaining his brother's connection with the antagonist in the first game, and so on, rather then a reboot.

There is a PC version of Diablo Immortal now. It's Beta, but it does exist. I got on Blizzard to check for any updates and it was offering a free download of the Beta version. I tried it, and it is.... not great. It is still mostly modeled to be for a phone, so the controls are a bit weird to someone used to the control scheme of the other games.

An interesting take considering the Square Enix version of Lara Croft is the most grounded and likable we've ever seen her, and she has more character traits now than simply 'the British female Indiana Jones with huge honkers and two guns'. Still, the fact that they sold her off already, given how well the 2013 trilogy went, is disappointing to say the least.

1: Megaman is getting the battle network legacy collection on Switch. This means that there isn't the greatest chance of a new game, but at least the series will get some life with remakes and classic collections. 2: How was Banjo-Kazooie not on this list? It's been dead since 2008 and hasn't had a good new game since 2000, despite being a DLC character in smash bros. It's like Nintendo is giving us a consolidation prize.

Dungeon Keeper. 3rd game got canceled when EA bought out the developer. Years later they release a garbage mobile game with predatory micro transactions where it can take up to 24 hours to dig out a single tile of rock. City of Heroes. Game and all expansions are shut down by NC Soft a day before the devs were going to announce they next major content update. None of the stories or plot lines get resolved. Years later NC Soft puts out a MOBA with CoH characters in it and gives them endings to their stories that most fans hated.

We haven’t gotten a new installment since Mirror of Fate, despite now having a Netflix adaptation and having multiple characters featured in SSBU. I’m hoping for a new installment in the future, but knowing Konami’s track record, I shouldn’t get my hopes up too high.

I always wonder if the nth re-release of the legacy MM games is to gauge interest in the. character...I thought 11 was solid, and I think it sold well enough. Castlevania and marvel vs. Capcom are extremely ignored and mistreated by their creators, and they're such great games. Diablo shouldn't be on this list, just some controversies with resurrection is you're reasons to include them, and I'm actually excited about Diablo 4.

Can i come here and say ubisoft has been mistreating us with their games and their franchises up to the point of abusing them for profit? Like look at their current lineup You can see that clearly And what is worse the franchise that they chose to mistreat by completely ignoring them Prince of persia, reyaman, splinter cell to name a few And to me (and many others) I firmly believe that 2013 was the last year ubisoft made good games being the likes of far cry 3, black flag and Reyman legends Everything elese came in the 8 gen was an utter garbage From bugs, to glitches to time savers Someone needs to step in and fix ubisoft before it devours itself

I feel sorry for some of my favorite gaming franchises of the past in this list. Metroid, Sonic(In which it's past 16-bit days has been ruined by the rushed development of Sonic Origins due to Sega being much more worst than ever much to the dismay of Simon Thomley & his Headcannon Team), & poor Mega Man(As there has not been a proper successor to Mega Man 11 yet as it's been around 4 years since it's successful launch). And even the franchise that I have not play but know full well has not fared better like Rayman, Devil May Cry, and poor Metal Gear. This is why gaming nowadays has lost their heart & soul of previous generations. AND NO, JULES! IT'S NOT THE BEST TIME TO HAVE A FOLLOW-UP TO MEGA MAN LEGENDS! WHAT MEGA MAN FANS TRULY WANTED WAS EITHER MEGA MAN 12 OR MEGA MAN X9! Also, if there's an Honorable Mentions, there are plenty. Star Fox(As after 64, it went downhill with so many mediocre games that after Zero's failure, it is dead forever), Castlevania(The franchise has it's ups & downs. But after Judgment tarnished the franchise's reputation & Lords of Shadows 2 killed it due to it's downgrade from the original, it's easy to see why it was overshadowed by their own spiritual successor that was Bloodstained except for RotN Switch version), Contra(Had it much more worst than Castlevania due to the dark age of the PS1 era and after Hard Corps Uprising, it went into hiatus & Rouge Corps permanently killed the franchise since Konami was dead to us. All the more reason why that franchise was overshadowed by it's indie inspiration called Blazing Chrome), Ninja Gaiden(Due to having more hiatus than even Contra since it has not gotten a proper game in the 4th & 5th generation and after Tomonobu Itagaki's departure from Tecmo, the franchise's reputation has been tarnished forever with the failures of the reboot's 3rd installment & Yaiba NGZ. No wonder why that franchise has been overshadowed by it's own indie inspiration with Sabotage Studios' The Messenger & Yacht Club Games' Cyber Shadow.), Final Fantasy(Had it's ups & downs with the time of FF13 games & the original FF14 being the absolute worst), & Banjo Kazooie(Since after the 2nd installment, it has been forgotten after the 3rd installment's failure. Not even the representation of Super Smash Bros Ultimate's DLC helps much).
