In a weird way thats just what a lot of comics are. Unless the IP is new, the oriignal creators have nothing to do with any of these characters anymore and sometimes the writers don't know/care about the character at all...Heck, at least fanfic writers are, well, FANS and generally know the characters inside and out. And no I'm not saying only original creators should work on these things since that would mean the vast majority of popular comic characters from both of the big 2 would be impossible to write for since their creators are long dead. Just using it to point out that in a weird way virtually all modern comics are just fanfics

Such as the video on 10 Comic Couples Fans Hate, where it's telling when Harley and Mister J (despite some fans' demented fondness for the abusive duo) are the top of a list which includes "Miss Marvel" Carla Danvers & her son, "Batman" Bruce Wayne & Barbra "Batgirl" Gordon, incestual siblings Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch from Ultimate Marvel who may have also been gruff fan favorite badass Wolverine's children whom he caught doing the nasty together, "Wonder Woman" Diana Prince & "Superman" Clark Kent/Kal El all because they're both quintessential American superheroes (except for the fact that one is a misplaced Kryptonian alien & the other is a Greek princess from the island of Thymascara full of Amazons that, if you know your history of Amazonian culture, is the forerunner to 3rd wave feminism in which both see men as the inferior gender & take pleasure in emasculating men for their own desires all because they view all men as lying, cheating scum who think with their penis rather than their brains, but then again, since all of this crap is actually written & edited by a predominately male staff, it kind of hits too close to home by proving that idea true in hindsight, as no further evidenced by the Swimsuit Specials released almost annually by Marvel - depicting its male & female heroes and selective villains in skimpy, skin-tight clothing to appease a randy teenage readership - and likewise DC having characters like Tamaranian alien Starfire and super-strong Power Girl wearing a revealing 80's stripper outfit claimed to be body armor in the shape of a bikini & a crop top that nearly exposes the latter ample bust size coupled with a decidedly short-short mini skirt that would allow for panty shots if female readers weren't throwing rocks at editorial staff & artists for objectfying women enough already) with Superman's supposed true love either being high-school sweethart Lana Lang OR his more widely-known fellow Daily Planet reporter girlfriend Lois Lane (even though there are comics that show that The Man of Steel isn't the all-American Boy Scout with unwavoring wholesome morals that he's promoted as, such as when he pitted Lana Lang & Lois Lane directly against each other by accusing Lois of damaging his & Lana's relationship when most fans weren't even aware that Superman had a girlfriend before Lois Lane or when he was brainwashed into thinking he's killed Lois on the eve of their wedding, which is ironic, considering the Injustice Superman underwent a complete 180 in character by going full-out evil all because The Joker & Scarecrow tampered with Superman's mind to make him think he was carrying the villainous monster Doomsday into space when in actuality he was carrying wife Lois who was pregnant with their half-human/half-Kryptonian child & when pregnant Lois died, Superman went completely mental & created a dictatorial Regime in which he's tried to restore his own broken sense of justice in spite of being pegged as the bad guy against his former allies & even recognizable villains who ally with the heroes when they both view the unhinged Superman as a threat to the world in general). YET, one relationship is missing from the list & it's one during Marv Wolfman's most prolific tenure in the 80's in writing the New Teen Titans (the same group which spawned the cartoon [2003-2006 pseudo-anime as well as its 2013-present TTG parody series] & soon-to-be live-action incarnations), namely chain-smoking 16-year-old earth-bending sociopath Tara "Terra" Markov & over 30-but-looks-over-50 Slade "Deathstroke the Terminator" Wilson who each engaged in some side unhinged jailbait meets family man pedophile sexual congress during the infamous JUDAS CONTRACT storyline that was adapted from comics into the 2nd season of the 2003-2006 Teen Titans cartoon with a more likable, sympathetic Terra opposite a Slade who essentially wants world domination like any standard villain trope baddie AND the recent animated film remake that shoehorned in Damien Wayne as a piss-poor Jason Todd 2.0 essentially & is trying but failing (outside of deluded Rob/Rae fans who ignore years of comic canon for their own personal preference) to force Robin/Raven into happening despite years of earlier Robins Dick Grayson & Tim Drake each viewing Raven like a sister AND Raven's only true mutual romantic relationship (the rest were her mind-manipulating others against their will, being unable to commit due to her daddy issues with her demon father Trigon & nearly having her powers siphoned away by power-drunk vampire Eric Forrester as the comics' edgier equivalent to the cartoon season 3 episode "Spellbound" where goth stereotype animated Raven was used by a dragon posing as a wizard from one of her books whom she fell hard for, only for him to be the true bad guy all along who merely played with Raven's emotions just so he could be freed from the book prison the true wizard of the story had trapped the dragon into using the same spell Raven herself would cast to return the dragon back to the book from whence he came]) in the source comics being with changeling Beast Boy from 2003-2011 during the 3rd wave of the Teen Titans right around the time of the 2003-2006 cartoon's debut & the show's depiction of the superhero equivalent of Beauty & the Beast, with voice actor support from Tara Strong as Raven & Greg Cipes as Beast Boy themselves, just adding more fuel to the shipping fire, especially once Terra was permanently removed from the equation.

Frank miller did not define the modern batman. He had already been going in that direction and Miller just had one of/the most famous stories about him at the time. He essentially brought it to the publics eye but thats not the same thing as defining him. Also, that piece of trash (all star B&R) was not a parody. The all star line, while a failure, was SUPPOSED to be the answer to marvels ultimate universe. a fresh start for new readers and showing characters in their truest most root forms. This is just literally what frank miller believes batman should be. If he ever later said "oh yeah, this was a pardoy/deconstruction" or whatever then 1) its still badly done 2) he didn't do his job since that's not what supposed to be what it was 3) I automatically assume he's lying and trying to cover for himself and said "yeah, i totally MEANT for this to be a dumpster fire...totally...yup..." When ot comes to frank miller, ALWAYS assume the worst

I first ever heard/read about Brother Power was in an ill-fated Vertigo revival in the late 90's. That one-shot wonder (featuring art by Mike Allred!) gave the character a complete backstory--weird as it it. Involves a Tree of Life, metaphysics, and--yes--a magic lightning bolt. So... you weren't far off in your offhand guess. It was only later I found out it was a pre-existing character.

Like, it was ok and maaaaaybe my opinion is colored differently because I've seen Millers more...modern works before DKR thus smearing a little bit of poop stains over everything he's worked on even when he was arguably worthy of the praise he gets, but yeah..not a fan. Hahonryuu One thing people never talk about with Miller's Batman connection: it's built solely on two four issue storylines. Both are important milestones but, as I said at the top, O'Neill and Adams paved most of the way. To me, the tragedy of Frank Miller's life's work is that he let himself go as a creator. I liked him back in the day. I was a regular in his later Sin City letter columns and even got a preview copy of 300 I still have somewhere. But something awful happened to him after turn of the century. Maybe it was his divorce, maybe something else. I just know that the few issues of DK3 I tried reading read like a hate-filled suicide note.

As a former kid who used to buy a lot of comics back in the 80s I have to say Miller gets the credit for reviving Batman into a viable character. While O'neil and Adams had changed the character to something close to the Miller Dark Knight concept, no one under 30 was buying DC back then. My friends and I were all "Marvel or nothing" buyers. In our young heads Batman was adam west dancing the batusi and comic books were about Wolverine running people thru with his claws. Glenn who ran Excalibur comics in Chester New Jersey got tired of watching young guys come in and but out the marvel spinner and ignore the DC one. Not because he just wanted to sell comics, but because he felt we were missing out on great stories.( Excalibur was a video rental place as well as a comic store, the real money came from the tape rentals back then) He started making a special offer to all the "Marvelheads" as he called us. "Buy The Dark Knight Returns and If you don't like it ill buy it back for twice what you paid for it." He made that offer with everyone who seemed to be allergic to the DC logo. I think over the all 4 issues of DKR he bought back only two copies of issue 4. Glenn was the comic book store version of Jack Black in "High Fidelity" If you were reading the right books he would talk your ear off, if you were buying trash he looked at you in silent disdain while he took your money. His plan worked, as most if not all of us Marvelheads started buying The Justice League reboot and Batman and Detective Comics every month.

Yeah as much as I actually liked Batman Odyssey I cannot deny the truth that trying to actually READ it is a Herculean feat, so much odd word use and word play that made the grammar and sentence structure so headache inducing I had to read a lot of them twice. I was tempted to run them through Google Translate.....not that would actually helped but it would have been worth a try dammit! Honestly all you have to do is rewrite all the word balloons and it would actually be an easy to enjoy and very silly book....

I've always liked that one with Barda and Supes. OK the whole Darkseid appearing a chair in the home was bizarre. But I loved it as it showed how vulnerable Supes is to mental control. And the thought of using him to make a porn was brillant from a destroying the mythos of Supes perspective. Sure since you control his mind you could simply have him create diamonds for you and be rich, rich, rich. But if create a porn tape, you destroy the respect many have for the hero. Hey they could rob a bank for you but that might be explained later and people forget. But an x-rated tape will live on and constantly hound the hero utterly destroying them over time.

Ok, my thoughts on each entry: 10. Seen it before. Heroin is a hell of a drug. 9. Not gonna lie, I kinda like the idea of superheroes having the most mundane jobs whenever they're not fighting crime or saving the planet. I mean, a lot of stories have flirted with the idea of supes having trouble to balance their everyday life as regular people and their superhero life. I find the notion facinating tbh. 8. Ok, this is just weird. I mean, yeah, it would probably help if the lightning was cast by some supernatural force of something. 7. Man, World's Finest sounds like a true joy to read through. Like I already mentioned, I like the idea of supes having to deal with every day issues. One of them being just hanging out with friends, and if said friends happen to also se supes? That's just awesome. One of the reasons I loved the Teen Titans animated series (2003), probably. 6. Hey, Wally West's Flash had a nightmare of something like that in an episode of Justice League tas! Cool :3 5. Tbh, sometimes I just want to see Batman, a super-skilled martial artist, athlete and badass in general, kick the living shit out of not-quite-so-fit criminals, so I don't think I would have a problem with this one, but I haven't read it yet. However, I really rate Frank Miller's take on the Bat, so I can see why this comes up as disappointing. 4. I enjoy broken-down worn-out heroes (Old Man Logan and so on :p ) so this sounds interesting to me... Hitler Twins, tho. Now that's just pampering the readers XD 3. Ok, this is just fucked. 2. This sounds boring. 1. Dude, I honestly don't mind the idea of those two having sex (tbs, I like MM and Barda to much to aprove), and the mind control thing is fine too... the thing that makes this HILARIOUS to me is that it was Darkseid's plan. Like, DARKSEID, of all people, is the one who's gonna film this sorta thing just to screw over an enemy. I'm not saying he wouldn't or that it's below him... but it kinda is?
