The worst part about Pokkle's death to me wasn't that he was in a hopeless situation, but that I as the reader had hope. He was smart, he'd managed to survive, and Kite and Killua and Gon were on their way to the nest. It seemed like a perfect setup for them to team up and for Pokkle to become one of the heroes. That's what I expected to happen. Needless to say, that's not what happened AT ALL.

Pokkle’s death destroyed me bro. I had this unexplained attachment to him during the Hunter Exam and when I heard he returned in Chimera Ant I was so excited. I thought he would play a big role and meet up with Gon. Only to see him get one of the most brutal deaths in the series. Still upsets me to this day.

Probably late to the idea but, "We accept anything you leave, but don't ever take anything away from us" sounds a lot like Metors City's motto and something the Troupe would say to Sarasa's killers. At the very least it makes it sound like they had some sort of personal motive in the slaughter.

I think it makes perfect sense that the troupe created this motto for themselves, and Meteor City more generally, because of Sarasa's death. But I don't think it necessarily follows that the Kurta had anything to do with the murder. It could simply be a message they started leaving everywhere as a warning, to make a name for themselves.

I think feitan's 'rising sun' ability is one of the most physically painful way to go, the victim slowly burns to death with their blood boiling and flesh radiating off. But the most emotionally painful death is definitely the kurta clan, cannot imagine the pain of seeing your children get brutally tortured and murdered in front of you while you're absolutely helpless to do anything.

What if the note of Sarasa said "we will take everything you leave but don't ever take anything away from us". What if Sarasa found something belonging to a certain group and they took revenge. One of those group members happend to be a kurta clan member and that is why the note was left behind. The murder of the kurta clan is uncharacteristically brutal for the phantom troupe. This would also explain how karapika met Sheila who most likely tried to prevent the kurta massacare from happening. (it is quite suspisious that she was there in the same time frame as the troup unless ofcourse it would involve Sarasa)

I think it's telling that lots of the more disturbing things in hunter hunter are things that can happen in real life and arent some magical power shonen fantasy suffering. there is a posibility, equally, that Hisoka is hiding himself as Illumi and the kalluto onboard the ship is not real Kalluto, the latter one is farfetched, but Hisoka hiding as Illumi isnt so much, considering that it also somehow, compared to the rest of the troupe, he has an ID that lets him go through every floor, including floor 1 of the ship, as well the readyness it talkd with the hunter zodiacs, more so if you consider Illumi being considered no longer a hunter after teh election situation and the mission to hunt him at that time, other details including also it wearing kneepads when it did not before, and the focus on choosing a place where it can shower well, which is something Hisoka is shown a lot, taking showers and baths, its how you see him when he meets machi during the tower arc, how the rest met him in greed island and such, plus making sense in how its a "hiding in plain sight" which with the new abilities of texture surprise its possible

A few more terrible ways to die are all attributed to the Hunter Exam. 1st test had testers being eaten alive, spored, impaled for the crows, and frogged (eaten alive again). The 3rd exam the rock climber was also eaten alive, I see a theme here.

Gon's death...of his Nen that is. I know it may or may not be true, and as long as Hunter X Hunter is still being published there is always a chance for Gon to get his Nen back especially when it's left up in the air but I can't help but think of what Ares said in the first God Of War Game. He said "I know many ways to kill a man Kratos. Flesh that burns, bones that break, but to break a man's spirit is to truly destroy him." When Gon discovered Nen it became a part of his life and in some way part of his identity and spirit and just the thought of losing that sort of thing can be extremely heartbreaking. I know it's not a literal death but you can never deny the emotional trauma that comes with losing a part of oneself.

But coming back to your point I think Beyond will have a selfish motivation which will be morally questionable. Togashi is definitely setting up that Tsereidnech is sarasa’s killer. Same artist. Could give understanding to why the troupe has been doing what they’ve been doing and that they’ve been inching closer to the killer. He has the last Kurta eyes there’s a chance they’ve been ticking off a list and working they’re way closer to him in the same fashion that Kurapika has been hunting down the eyes. Would also suggest that kurapika and the troupes suffering starts and ends with Tserreidnech makes him even more detestable too and gives us a boat where the troupe hunts tserreidnech whilst hisoka hunts the troupe with kurapika right in the midst of it all. I remember watching pokkle be lobotomized in the anime and the feeling of that is still wholly disturbing - for me it was the first tone shift in the series that, despite hisoka and genthru and all that, fully removed me from the notion that this was a kids show and would preserve protagonists' in plot armor and a candy-coated reality. It's also weirdly what took the show to a whole new level of graphic realism despite making me sick. That is absolutely what the ants would have done considering they saw humans as food, despite offending our viewing sensibilities or pushing the rating of the show to a place that might alienate younger/softer audiences. a mastahpiece.

You...didn't get the tone shift when Gon and Killua were held hostage by a group of criminals we had already seen murder 2 characters that were set to have major roles? The same group that murdered the entire clan of one of the other main characters? That same main character whose entire power was designed strictly around getting revenge against these criminals? Or when they decapitated another major supporting character on-screen/on panel? I just don't know how people make it through Yorknew and don't catch the tone shift by that point...that entire arc is suuuuuper grim and dark

@@brendonw456 uh no being held prisoner by "bad guys" happens in PG-13 movies and generic action flicks. decapitations are a staple of standard warrior action movies, would be instantaneous and painless, and often are a cliche that exists to illustrate how "hardcore" a toothless villain is (not in this case but still). The kurta massacre happened off-screen and relies on bitch-made Kurapika's retelling. Gyro killing his dad, for example, happened on-screen, and that struck like a hammer as a result, harder than the reference to the massacre did. Watch a movie called "Hannibal;" probably before your time, but you'll plainly see the difference between a warrior lopping off a melon, and a predator ripping open their victim's head, playing with their brain, and then eating them. It's the difference between horror and action. Hence the tone-shift reference. ALSO - Yorknew was the WORST arc/season! From the name Yorknew, to the "Mafia," to the "heist," (just kill them? suck on that one danny ocean), to the fortune-telling daughter, to Chrollo's fake tough-guy dialogue, to the decision to focus on Kurapika and the troupe instead of the boys, Hisoka, Hunters, or Ging. It was like Nen 201, a course Togashi THOUGHT was necessary to further illuminate geography and the greater world of nen-users prior to Greed Island, and explain away Kurapika's absence from the following arcs (although, thank god), but ultimately unnecessarily closing off loops that could/should have marinated until the Succession War. There is no tone shift in that arc from the conflicts of the previous storylines. It doesn't get really real until the Ants.

@@michaelcollins3384 You're really trying to trash talk Yorknew, which is very, VERY commonly ranked as the second best arc in the whole series, right after CA. Like those are literally the two spots I can predict on almost every single list. In fact, I'll peruse just a few random samplings I can find online and there are 3 arcs that not only consistently top people's lists...the top 3 spots are almost exclusively these 3 arcs being swapped around: Chimera Ant (most consistently in #1) Succession War (most consistently #2) Yorknew (most consistently #3) On roughly 10% of these lists that Im sifting through, the Hunter Exam sneaks into one of these spots and either Yorknew or Succession War slides down to #4. Now...with that considered and you actually trying to cite Hannibal, the second worst book AND film in that series, for an example of "quality" is fucking hilarious. The only thing worse than that one is Hannibal Rising, and that set the bar so low that you'd need to drill to the core of the earth to trip over it. Now, since you decided to assume you know my age, then try to condescend using that incredibly wrong assumption, and then CONTINUE FURTHER to show that you actually have no taste nor the ability to think beyond your own POV, I'm not gonna waste another second on you. You're clearly nothing more than a contrarian (I mean ffs, you actually tried to state that focusing on ANOTHER one of the main characters for one arc as a bad thing...that is just a remarkably stupid and childish criticism), and probably a middle aged dude with the mental capacity of a teenager. Just on the side note relating to defeating the king and royal guards. There is 1 person, who is dead already, but who could easily defeat Meruem and all royal guards. Baise, whose ability was 180 min love slave, when she kisses person, he becomes her slave. If she was alive, team puts her on Meleoron, they rush to the King, while he sits and do nothing, play Gungi, for example. She kiseses him, and King will not even notice or be able to dodge, because when Meleoron power activated, noone feels their presence, even when touching. After Meruem becomes her slave, she orders him to kill all the royal guards and then kill himself. Easy.

There is one big problem with your theory since iirc Meleoron can hold his breath for around a minute and if he's not holding it he will be immediately detected by En and just so happen that Meruem's En had the largest range in the series like Pitou's En had a range of around 2 kilometers and Meruem had even larger so unless Melereon or Baise can run with the speed of around 120 km/h with extra person on their back, try to come up with something else.

@@dc6502 King had this large radius En, after he was reborn, before that it wasn't as large, plus, before their attack he was not using it and was just chilling in the palace, playing games. This strategy could be executed when Knov place the portals and before the attack, go through the portal and straight to the king while he plays games. 1-2 minutes would be enough. Other strategy could be to use Basho, who was writing poems. He could have wrote something like "If the King or royal guard En touches me, he will burn" or smth like that.

that's an interesting strategy, but it's important to remember that Baise's ability has limitations and Meruem's strength and intelligence would make it difficult to control him completely. Additionally, the Royal Guards are incredibly powerful and would likely intervene to protect Meruem. It's a creative idea, though.
