I heard a story that in 2002, WWE (Steph specifically) hired a continuity editor to go back through four years and make sure character motivations made sense and timelines were consistent. He apparently found so many inconsistencies, Vince got mad and fired him.

@@MoxyOh Oh lord. Poor Big Show. He flip flopped from being the biggest monster on the roster to a clown and then back to monster. They did it over and over again. Show was a such an asset that you could keep him anywhere you wanted, even away from any titles and it would be fine. Repeatedly compromising his credibility as a threat is another matter altogether though.

@@pelayowhitewolf3276 Lol, I'm not a Mark. Flip flopping the Big Show character back and forth wasn't good for their business and all it did was make it more difficult for Paul Wight to go out there in the ring and be convincing in whatever role they had him in at the moment. If you have an asset like that guy, you protect him, not misuse and degrade his character. They had a very similar problem with how they treated the Kane character.

This was a few years before my time but the one that always sticks out hardest to me is the Rumble '92 finish with Sid and Hogan. The original version had the crowd going crazy for Sid eliminating Hogan fair and square, with Heenan and Gorilla going "wow that's incredible!" and then chastising Hogan for yanking Sid out afterward like a sore loser. Cut to them showing the finish on whatever the next episode of TV was, and they'd dubbed over both the crowd and the commentary so they were booing Sid, cheering Hogan, and Heenan and Gorilla's new commentary was much more in line with what Vince wanted. This has been his M.O. since day 1.

His mothers' last name is Benoit, but isn't related to Chris. Trying to fake burns on Kane with make up would have been next to impossible to pull off. This. I was a teenager throughout the MNW and tbh, maybe the DX invasion was a stretch and Foley's title win was the big one, but it certainly was a huge moment that contributed greatly. I mean, of the examples they gave, I don't see any of them as being incorrect.

1. WCW's closure was due to Time Warner merging with AOL. It had nothing to do with Vince or the WWF. 2. DX played little to no part in WWE's success. They were simply over, that's all. 3. Vince claimed that WCW poached talent when Vince was known for poaching talent and killing off the territories.
@frighty
@frighty Жыл бұрын
@@vDeadbolt 1. Nobody said anything about the closure of WCW. The MNW was pretty much over by 2000. 2. DX was involved in Austin' first world title, Mankind's win over the Rock, The screwjob, the ushering in of the Attitude era, elevating lower midcarders into the spotlight, etc. But with all that, again, I somewhat agree that their part is a bit overhyped. 3. With regards to the Monday Night Wars, talent poaching was not in Vince's best interest and the words weren't even mentioned in the video. Did WCW not buy a metric ass ton of WWE stars in their rise to the top?

I think the then World Wrestling Federation could have made a new agreement with the World Wildlife Fund that would have benefited both parties...a yearly PPV called PandaMonium from which all of (or a percentage of) the profits would be donated to the World Wildlife Fund. That way, the World Wildlife Fund makes money to support their cause and gets a lot of free publicity worldwide and the World Wrestling Federation not only gets to keep their name but also gets some good PR for helping a world famous charity and very worthy cause.

Nothing about their revisionist history annoys me more than their portrayal of WCW of being some unwatchable clownshow.

To be truthful, both WCW and WWF had their moments of being "unwatchable clownshows" in 1997-2000. Often occurring simultaneously with each other. It wasn't anywhere close to being top-notch storytelling all the time for either company; some winners, a whole lotta losers for both of them.

I grew up in that Era & honestly at times, especially towards the end it was exactly that.

Remembering my childhood the 2 biggest icons at the time were Hogan and Warrior. I was such a huge fan and torn when they had their title vs title match with Warrior in the end being the one I wanted to win. Now so many years later, I hear all the back stage politics and how they both in the business as far as letting others get over were both gigantic AHOLES. It really makes,me wish I'd been a fly on the wall at the meetings before the title 4 title match just to see how those discussions went and how much of a headache they both were during the meeting trying to put over themselves as they should win.

WWE made it look like WCW was good for a couple weeks with The NWO and that was it. The show was terrible. Started off good but then went downhill.
