Miz cuts promos in ways that make the IC and US Titles feel as important as the World Title just by him talking about them like they do. I just got so sick of watching my favorite wrestlers being booked and treated like dirt most of the time. @@Immersed94 agreed 💯. The last 6-7 years in particular have felt exhausting rather than exhilarating - the way wrestling is supposed to make you feel. The Bloodline storyline is really layered and detailed, one of the best all around stories in 25 years. The Uso's, Sami, Roman FINALLY embracing heel heat, Paul Heyman.... All elevated and organically over. They're really trying to elevate the US Title - something Miz did phenomenal work with, and IC still feels like an afterthought. Back in the attitude era, everyone got over because everyone was made to matter. Stop/start booking has watered down countless talents. It feels like we're on an upswing here, and this is the first Mania I've truly looked forward to in years. We'll see.

@@Graveyard151 Context is important, and in this instance “stop being gay” would imply that actually being gay was a negative thing. If you disagree then I’d be willing to hear a counter argument.

Love this kind of video and I'm sure someone else already mentioned this but Shinsuke is the second Asian IC champ, as Steamboat is technically the first. Shinsuke would be the second Japanese IC champ as well since Steamboat is 1/2 Japanese. 🤗

Can we just give Shinsauke credit I mean he pinned Roman and with Vince's brain that is almost impossible especially in a title match.

I remember watching the countdown wondering and waiting to see who it was gonna be. Then the countdown finally hit zero, the music drops, the lights hit and BAM Y2J comes out like a supernova. Had me hooked.

This needs an update now that Gunther has beaten Honky's record. Most prestigious IC Champ ever

He’s definitely now in the top 10, for me at least. Not just for beating Honky Tonk Man’s record, but the amazing matches he’s had.

I grew up watching late 80s and early 90s so when I think of Intercontinental championship I think Rick Rude, Curt Hennig, Warrior, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramone

Man, how can you watch wrestling in the 80s and not immediately associate the IC Champion with the Honky Tonk Man?

Enjoy your channel!! Great List!! U got it almost Perfect.. NUmber one is Macho for sure.. He was the Greatest Wrestler alive when he held that IC Title... He was must see, and wasnt afraid to put himself above Hogan and challenge him any chance he got.. I loved wrestling at the time and was a Huge Piper Fan and Flair fan having the rare privilege of watching all the Garden shows while living in NY and spending summer months in Florida getting to see the Super Station. but no one was close to Macho in the ring or on the Mic.. He was like a black cat in the ring seemingly always on overdrive.. Captured my attention as a kid and i havent since seen anyone on that level during those IC Years.. thanks agn!!

Some great debate about this list - as much as this belt is for the true wrestlers it seems to me this list is much more for deeper rather than more casual fans - no aspersions cast on either as age has made me more of the latter. I always saw the IC as a way for guys to propel themselves to good rivalries and a way to showcase their work at PPVs. In that way, they are working towards getting into the mix for the big belt where there is nowhere to hide in terms of your ability to put on good matches and to draw business. I loved Perfect and Razor as IC champs - they had some great matches and rivalries, maybe especially when losing - but neither used the higher profile to catapult themselves to the top of the business (though injuries and moves to WCW perhaps contribute). By contrast, the likes of Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and Edge all successfully raised their profiles whilst IC champ and showed they could do the business at the top of the organisation. I think the best of these types of IC champion is Bret Hart. The Hitman transformed himself from the tag scene into singles royalty with rivalries and great matches contesting the IC belt. The first ladder match against Michaels, putting over the Bulldog at Wembley, beating Hennig at Summerslam and Piper at Wrestlemania - all very different but brilliantly planned and executed matches that elevated both him and the belt, turning it into the crucial stepping stone for credibility that it was for Michaels, Stone Cold, HHH, The Rock and more.

The white strap was so damn badass and iconic I really don’t get why the WWE doesn’t realize how iconic their old belts are and replace them with really bad ugly belts. The big gold and pretty much any wwe championship belt before the current one we’re so amazing especially the ones with the eagles on em
