Getting up early is a great tip. Nothing's better for learning than having a park more or less to yourself. Indoor paid entry parks if you can get to them monday to friday early afternoon (before end of school/most work) are often super quiet too.
@BrandonDrummond6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I definitely agree. Having a park to yourself is one of the most fun times to skate. Especialy if you're there with just your mate ✌🏻

Big G for your channel! You're absolutely right about the fun. I can't stop saying it because it seems like that our community is about to forget the fun behind the sport. For me as a bladie it's kinda hard to having fun because everybody is expecting from you to do harder stuff in a short amount of time and way too much because we are not much and they wanna see "professionals" nowadays...like "do topsides and you're good enough"...or some butthurted goofs called the female riders at winterclash as "a shame for our sport". It's so sad. And at some competitions, I felt really pranked by some judges because I really like to go technical and clean and they rate somebody higher who constantly just taps the tricks. It motivates me most in the time when I skate alone, because I'm doing it for fun and I absolutely love it, no doubt. But it devotimates me as soon as I'm with people who're expecting way too much...Like I said, big probs that you're down on earth and that you like to support other people. I definitely left you a subscription :) take care! (Sorry for my long comment bro ^^')
@BrandonDrummond5 жыл бұрын
That's so lame to hear people where saying that at Winterclash! That's so stupid! I agree with those judging points too! idk how you could ever judge skating when its so personal. Like a hurricane top soul could be impossible to one person but easy to another What makes one better than the other? Anyway, Thanks for the support and comment! Lets just keep rolling cause its fun screw all that lame stuff.

Great tips, all of them - thanks for posting this. As a very late-starting noob I can vouch for all 10 of them! The only thing I'd add is crash pants. Bootylicious. And a request for some more online tutorials for the basic-basics (shout out to Ska-Mi-Dan).

Glad you agree! I didnt know you could get crash pants. I want sone haha. Im posting a backslide tutorial in a few hrs. Any particular tricks youd like to see?

Thanks! Totally agree about the confidence - it also leads to better concentration. Being worried, doubtful, scared, occupies a lot of the brain power that i need to focus on what I'm trying to learn. When half my mind is imagining what can all go wrong, I'm not able to fully control what I'm trying to do... It's hard to achieve, confidence (or at least some level of self trust), but there really isn't much choice.

Good video. I'd definitely say the mizou is a good first grind. I always found it easier than souls, my toes naturally point out a little so holding a soul grind is a little uncomfy.
@BrandonDrummond6 жыл бұрын
That does make sence. I think my first soul trick was markio haha. Everyone one is different. Cheers man ✌🏻

@@BrandonDrummond Definitely plus 1 the mizou comment. There was a point were I could citric acid easier than soul just because how my knees and feet work. For me Mizou and backsides are natural, frontsides and souls are a fight.

Your tutorial videos are super helpful, they’ve helped me progress a lot! Are you going to do any more videos for learning how to start at a skatepark or starting on ramps? I’ve got the skating backwards and crossover down but feel like I’m not ready to start grinds yet😁
@BrandonDrummond3 жыл бұрын
So glad you like them! Yes I plan 2 have about 3 more tutorials before getting into grinds I just haven't finished them yet. I have 1 half edited now about riding transitions. Stay tuned 🔥

I know everyone says to get wrist guards, but I use longboard slide gloves (since I also do downhill longboarding) and I can say that wrist guards would be MUCH less effective. I have slid on my palm pucks so many times and with only the small piece of plastic the wrist guard puts in front of your hand I would definitely have injured my hand more. Plus, when I don't put the gloves on and fall on my hands, the part of my hand that gets the most injured is the muscle on my PALM below my thumb, not my wrist.
@BrandonDrummond6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! That makes way more sence to me. Do those gloves save your thumb and fingers from getting scrapped up too?
@spade4acer6 жыл бұрын
Brandon Drummond yes, there are many slide glove models out there that have palm and thumb pucks, but not every one does. They tend to be more expensive so it’s up to you whether or not you want to buy them. Downhill longboarders always stress the ability to use only your palms when putting your hands on the ground as important because the free-ness of the fingers allows you to grab things when you need to. In blading, you may want to be able to fully grab your skates on airs for style points, but it’s up to you.

That makes sense. Cheers for the tips man.

Guys like you probably don't need them mate. I'm a 49-year-old noob (I've done fewer than ten sessions) so I need them, on every level! Any tips on dropping in fakie would be amazing, but that's about the extent of my ability - for now ;)
@BrandonDrummond6 жыл бұрын
Ooo thats a hard one. Id practise, rolling up the ramp then coming down fakie. Have your feet shoulders with a part but one in front of and one behind you. Then just go for it. Remember to always lean forward ✌🏻. Hope that helps. Glad youre skating too 💪🏻

@brandon Drummond, hi man, love your videos. I started 3 weeks ago inline skating using freestyle rocker setup. Just got my aggressive skates 3 days back and realise that the stopping techniques arent as easy. Like lunge turn and powerstop is tough to turn on aggressive skates. Can you teach or recommend me some ways i can stop on aggressive skates that most of you guys find useful other than Tstops and plowing. Thanks a million!
@BrandonDrummond5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Glad to hear that man. That sounds like a really good idea! I not the best at stops I usually just do the T stop or drag a back foot, Idk if I would be much help. I feel like most aggressive skates stick to those except the pros. I'll see if I can pick up some better stops and do a tutorial on it. Cheers for the suggestion!

In regards to #1. A helmet physically cannot prevent a concussion. Their purpose is to prevent cracking your skull. Nothing you wear on your head can prevent you from having your brain collide with the inside of your skull. I'm not saying don't wear a helmet if you want to wear one, just saying don't allow the helmet to give you a false sense of security, because you're probably only marginally safer when wearing one.
