I am a teacher of 19 years, and I can tell you that bonding and getting your students trust is very important. You can teach until you are blue in the face. A child has to want to learn, and by doing this is by having some fun and forming good relationships with each of them.

I find that if the teachers connect with the students, joking around a little bit, it helps. The teacher shouldn't be seen as just a teacher, but also a friend and helper. I'm in middle school currently, and my English and Science teachers have teacher Instagrams. Really fun.

This is a great dream you have, young lady. What I like so much about it is that it is very realistic and very achievable. Don't let anyone detract you from it. Before you graduate, you will encounter good teachers and bad teachers. Learn from both. Learn how to BE from the good ones and how NOT TO BE from the bad ones. And never let the bad ones sour your dream. In the meantime, keep a clean record. Any bad deeds could ruin that dream for you.. Keep a good heart and always love children. I'm not a teacher yet, but as soon as I get my own opportunity, I plan to be one of the best. And you should too. God bless you! And Happy Thanksgiving!

This is the 9th month of my First Year as a High School Teacher and I actually sort of teared up watching this vid because it's really like really true. It's indeed a struggle! It's survival. It's always a TEST, your skills, your competence, your effort so you push yourself to the best of your abilities everyday, your confidence, your strength as a person. The pressure is on to prove yourself to your kids whom you really care about and love and to the admins who will smile at you on your first week and after that ignores you on the hallway and you go thinking am I awful on observations? am I stupid? It's a lot to take in. I was super stressed. I'm crying a lot, I'm crying so much because I feel really bad on most days. It's failure left and right It's so hard to pick up yourself. But you know what, I am a teacher, everything is a process. I'm going to be better, I'm going to improve, MY SECOND YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT BECAUSE MY FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE MOLDED ME TO BE BETTER. Just patience, grit, intelligence and trust, we will get there. I swear!

ya i agree its easier to be-able to do all the stuff but when you actually get in front of the class room . It all changes so what i am trying to figure is the optimal gradual way to acquire the skills without actually being in front of the classroom to easy the transition when you actually get infront of an audience. Behavior management is a must for lower level its more important at that stage of teaching then pure knowledge.

So happy I found this channel! I'm in year 3 out of 5 in my concurrent education university program, and I plan on teaching French when all is said and done. Thankfully, my program has practicum teaching placements every single year, so we bank a few years of teaching experience before actually landing a full time job. I think I get a little overwhelmed when I think of all the content and resources I need to accumulate to get through an entire year! Blows my mind how much stuff some teachers keep on hand - and most of it is useful! Any tips on how to get your hands on anything and everything? Also, I'm not sure if its the same everywhere, but I hear many teachers end up spending a ton of their own money to buy various resources for their classroom, any tips/feedback on that?
@BridgingLiteracy8 жыл бұрын
Hey Emma! Sorry so late! Don't worry about 'collecting' everything right away. You will accumulate items as you go along. I started picking up items in college and haven't really stopped. Yes, you will probably spend some of your own money. But you make the determination on how much you are comfortable spending. Spending a ton of your own money will NOT make you a better teacher. Check out garage sales and craigslist for books or items you 'need' for your room. Have fun with it and focus on who you want to be as a teacher, not what your room will have in it. Good luck!

@@Montano76 i work in an urban environment with an interesting dynamic that performs outside the scope of a typical classroom, i have to build culturally inclusive lessons into my activities which is an afro-centric lens to fit the perspective and needs of my students.

@@Montano76 if i worked in the suburbs i think i would have alot less anxiety and would create different activities within my planning that might resonate differently. Its hard to teach a class of 25 kids when only 6 show up. Or when the kids dont try at all because the school lost its accreditation; meaning the students dont receive a diploma or GED at the end.

I just want to say I love your videos! They have been so helpful! I want to be a teacher I'm in college now but I feel like I am too shy to be a teacher. I've worked with kids in the past and I love it. How do I over come this fear? Thank you :)

+Briana Reynolds it comes with time. I was nervous in the beginning and after some time it became easier. ☺️

What was it like for you when you were a student teacher and you had to stand in front of the class for the first time. I don't want to mess up, even though i want to work with k-2 and i know when they are that age they wont even care or think twice about it like i would.

I'm not sure I wholly agree with "don't let the administration see you're stressed". If things are excessively hard, administrators should know. Putting on a brace face just to look good for superiors? Maybe that's "playing the game" but, for me at least, it just feels so inauthentic. It also means that the admin team might be thinking things are running smoother then they are, so now they're working off a false sense of what's going well or not well. Just my two cents.

For tip #1 (small groups) do you cover all subjects in small groups or just literacy? Do you do small groups throughout the day or have a certain time in the day blocked off for small groups?
@BridgingLiteracy8 жыл бұрын
+Vanessa Baker Yes. I pull small groups all day long. I pull my groups as I see fit. In between small groups I also have individual conferences with students. My groups incorporate all skills taught in the classroom, so during reading I focus on reading, phonics, and phonemic awareness with some science and social studies in there since I integrate a lot of what we are learning.

Behaviour management really freaks me out because I'm such a pushover. Any advice? (I'm studying to become a teacher to 5-8 year olds and this point is just making me question it all.)
