I agree, great tips! Especially purchasing more fittings (and pipe length) than originally specified for the project. I've never had any problem with clear primer though. Also, some folks seem to avoid unions, but I love them. So much easier to get the angles right the first time, to take down the system for a move, or to modify the plumbing to accommodate system upgrades.

Few extra once clean and glued hold the pipe & fitting tightly together because they can push back apart especially the larger pipe sizes. Use the old brown cotton gloves that way you can wipe your joints after there glued to remove excess glue to avoid drips.. When buying unions and ball values use threaded because you can reuse then on your next upgrade and that’s coral money to fill out that bigger tank.

Couple tips: 1) I prefer clear primer, but I do 1 joint at a time 2) on a longer run, if your angle or length is slightly off, you can use a coupler to join cut pipe to cut pipe. 3) I prefer to chamfer the inside and outer of pipes. Never had a leak on a chamfered glue joint.

+1 on all of these. I'll add that I also use a Miter Saw to cut all PVC. Super clean, precise, straight, no rough edges and easier to chamfer.

The pvc tool is the absolute best...I bought one recently and it's laser precise and zero burrs....highly recommended

@@vincentjames1995 i have the black inner/outer one from home depot. Inner works great, outer blows. I normally use a router and router table when its setup. I got a new tool thats pricey. Need to find the name

I used the Flex Spa PVC....not cheap though...would I do it again?....idk it's way cheaper to just use all the hard pipe but for the bends and turns I needed to do my remote sump it was a breeze....it's hard plumbed on either end of that Spa hose it's still very rigid ...one benefit is how clean it looks coming and going through the floor....or going through the basement joists ...plus the softer bends restrict flow less...even where I could do 90s under the tank I still hard plumbed (2) 45 degree elbows ....minimize 90s in all cases imo

Absolutely minimize 90s if you can - the 2 x 45s is excellent advice to minimize restriction and get more flow out of your pumps

Zero difference in clear and purple primer aside from color. If clear didn’t work, Oatey wouldn’t sell it. Haha. Me personally would never use purple. Especially when spending high dollar on colored pvc. Never had any leaking issues with clear primer, and I’ve plumbed many systems with it. Love the channel btw🙂

Tip #1....and movie off lol Use Oatey Fusion All in One. Solved. For the sake of all that is holy, don't use purple primer. Tip #2: always open up unions and make sure the gasket is there. People steal them all the time

Here's my tip: get a Milwaukee Cordless PVC Cutter. Seemed like a splurge when I bought it, but man now I love that thing and have used it a ton

Primer's job is to soften the pipe so that the pipe and hub shape themselves to match eachother. You'll notice that hubs aren't perfectly straight holes, they have. A draft angle. If the pipe and hub were perfectly rigid, then when you shove the pipe in they would only make contact in one location, not throughout the whole hub as is required. The primer soaks into and softens the pipe until it has completely evaporated away, leaving the pipe the original strength. That is why you cant just paint primer on fittings at the factory like you could with paint. Purple and clear primer are chemically identical with the exception of the dye put in purple primer.
