Just 5' into the video, but I wanted to add that this new popularity of creating content around consumerism should be viewed in its socioeconomical context. People are encouraged to self-identify not by what they create but by what they consume, hence the importance of subcultures based on consuming of similar products. The market has hijacked people's need for self-identification and for finding community, while at the same time labeling "work" not as creation but as something necessarily boring and tiresome that you have to do in order to earn the right to consume. The act of creation isn't "real work", it is "just hobbies". People often downplay the centrality of the creative parts of their jobs, thinking the "real work" component of them is the mundane stuff like paperwork. I think that creating content about consuming is an effort - albeit a misguided one - to turn something passive, like consuming goods, into an active and creative endeavour. It's like birds who make nests out of toxic waste.

It is, indeed, like birds making nests out of toxic waste. In fact, that’s literally what we are doing, when you take into consideration the impact that overconsumption puts on the environment. Corporations are the biggest culprits of creating the waste being dumped into the environment. We keep buying stuff that we don’t need and they keep making it. Meanwhile, with prices where they are, Americans are having trouble putting food on the table and buying homes.

TRINA!!! Such a welcome appearance in my feed. ❤️ So great to see you during this time of my life. I agree with you about the “influencers” who just flip through their profusely decorated “planners,” rambling about “planner peace.” I started clearing out my long list of subscriptions, months ago. Needless to say, your channel “made the cut.” Of course, I’ll check out The Liberated Pen later on today. Happy holidays to you and your sons.

Thank you for inspiring us to stay grounded during "planner season" 😉 I absolutely love my 6 ring binder for it's simplicity and for how easy it is to customize. I always buy my binders secondhand so I won't stress when I toss it in my bag

Hahaha yes, why are people doing photo shoots with their planners?! It annoys me too!
