Thanks for educating me on fish keeping even. I have been keeping fish for more than 40 years but I learn something new every day. I started about 5-6 months ago AGAIN started with a 10 gallon tank and now I have 7 tanks, a 10, 5, 20, 55, and 2 5 gallon tanks and 1 10 gallon that is not setup.

@@d.t.ts.1770 that would be cooler than any other mythical creature. It can change size to accommodate tank mates, provide bright light everywhere it goes, eats all algae happily on site, and stabilizes water quality. And it’s magical godly essence makes all nearby plants in a 10 mile radius grow rapidly

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the great work. Your videos are very informative and helpful to newcomers. Your videos inspired me to jump on fishkeeping as a hobby. I started with a 10G tank with 2 goldfish. After watching and learning from you guys, i moved them into a 55G tank that I made sure was cycled for 2 months. It was a friend's old tank that was replaced with a 75G. The same substrate was used along with the same filters and decorations. I added a marineland magniflow canister filter after watching your canister comparison video. My fish are thriving and are very active. I get to enjoy pet fish like my dad did when I was younger. Thank you John. Thank you Lisa. And again keep up the good work. Looking forward to the new videos and the others I haven't seen yet.

Also, I have 4 Goldfish now. 2 Fancy Goldfish and 2 Black Moor fish. I do not plan on adding more to the tank or having them reproduce as they are all males.

I wish there'd been resources like this when I was a kid with first one, then a second common goldfish in a ten gallon. As you can probably guess, they both died soon after the introduction of the second fish, after 2 years with the first. This time round I have two 3" fantails in a 20 gallon, already have the 38 gallon they'll be going into later this year.
@jerichomarrero82215 жыл бұрын
Nice. I still have my 10G as a quarantine or breeder tank. It's been cycling for a few months now and it'll stay that way until I purchase new fish to put into it. But for now, my goldfish are my babies. I was looking into getting like a small school of guppies to put into my 10G and then getting a 20G to move them into when they get larger. Any advice on guppies? I've been looking into fantails, blue moscows, and yin/yang guppies. They look awesome and would look great with the right landscape. I have a 10 and 20G heater but not being used since my room temp is 72. Same with the water in my fish tanks. I also use a 20G filter on my 10G tank so filtration is great.

I have a 10 g. Tank for my Betta. It is your “10 things” that has helped me more than anything as a newbie. I don’t let my tank wait longer than 7 days without a vacuuming and a 1/3 water change. I only have Anubias growing and the java ferns are doing beautifully. The one thing that I have to stay on top of all the time because I live near the mountains, is water evaporation. Within 4 days I will have lost at least 2quarts To evaporation. And especially because I hate the white line at the top of my tank that shows how much is evaporated. It is a real pain to clean it every time, and because we have very hard water here, it is thick. Thank you so much for your 10 things, It has helped me keep my water crystal clear, and my tank is always lovely to watch.

Good advice on a UV sterilizer. I kept doing water changes in one of my tanks hoping it would clear up the hazy water. A worker at my LFS suggested a UV sterilizer. It cleared up my tank beautifully.😁

Good one...always full of handy hints. I switch off the light and give that a good clean too. It's surprising how much algae collects on it... Being in a warm and damp atmosphere I guess it cannot be helped. The water collects on it from the minute "spray" from the air stones.

Something I found with dirty lids is it dulls the light, which can actually make it easier for some of the more pesky species of algae to take over. Also on substrate, I have a ton of feeder snails that live in my substrate. Hundreds in my 70 gal cichlid tank. They multiply proportionally to their food supply and eat stuff inside the substrate. I also use amphipods(Scuds/sideswimmers from my invert tank) to keep the tanks cleaner for as long as they last before the fish eat them. Still have maintenance though it is admittedly easier.

One more tip, try to use submersible lights and place them at the back of the tank in the top portion just below the water level. This would prevent oxidation on the lights and the light throw would also be great all the time since there is no oxidation on the lights.

My juvenile female betta got herself jammed in a piece cholla tonight! I managed to get her out by using needle nose pliers to break the cholla open. She's alive, but I wonder if she sustained injuries; time will tell. Maybe a "10 things" could be on "what stupid things fish will do." Bettas are so smart and inquisitive, it can get them in trouble. Also, like arowanas, there are fish that are notorious jumpers at all sizes. I also had an incident yesterday when a young guppy got some plant stuck in his mouth- the dummy thought it was food, so I netted him and pulled the stuff out; he's fine.

Hi, I'm new to fish keeping and enjoyed watching your videos, they are a massive help. Slightly off topic from this video but I have just got a 125ltr tank and am currently in a fishless cycle. The tank wasn't new and came with 3 internal filters. I want to keep tetras and Danios in the tank but need to make the filters safe (Ocean Free Hydra 40, AquaEl asap filter 700, Boye SP-602E). Could you, or any pf your followers, recommend a guide I can follow to make them safe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@bettatimestories8075 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with any of those filter brands, but what I did with second hand hang-on back filters was disassemble them, scrub them with hot water and a chemical-free rough-ish sponge to rid them of old muck/hard water stains, wipe them down with vinegar OR bleach, rinse them very, very well (no smell of either, think I did a wipe down with dilute Prime to be safe with the bleached filter), and reassemble. All media was replaced with new. You'd have to use your own judgement to see if that would work with internal filters.
