Driving my different makes of vintage muscle over the years, the mopes def received the most praise from fellow drivers on the road. Grown men cannot seem to control themselves around my '71 RT. Try to be stealthy in a 1971 plum crazy shaker hood Challenger with the rubber bumpers, not happening my friend. Also my B5 blue shaker, dog dish hubcaps, 71 pistol grip 'Cuda. Now that is a beut. I will admit some issues with build quality, but they were just as reliable as any other make imo. Chrysler pioneered many engineering and manufacturing ideas and processes that took brand x's many decades to catch on to. I still have another cuda running points ignition and 49 year old voltage regulator and original fresh air carb. Runs great. I usually find people who bad mouth a particular brand is because they themselves messed with the mechanicals and well they screwed it, so obviously its the engineers fault, not the last hack who touched it. My opinion. Have a great day, guys.

Only on the 340 in the AAR Cuda and Challenger T/A in 1970 and on the 440 in the A12 Roadrunner/Super Bee in 1969 and most B and E Bodies in 1970-71. I think the 440/6 mightve been an option in the Chrysler 300 Hurst and Plymouth Fury GT but not sure if any were actually built. What made Mopars great was thier high performance image that they exploited to sell cars. GM and Ford seemed to dabble and would sponsor racers and back teams on occasion but only Mopar stayed consistently in all aspects of motorsports. Most of the cars built during the latter part of the 60’s by all the major auto manufacturers was in direct response to Mopar whipping thier asses at the track every weekend. Love all muscle cars but Mopars were the most radical by far!!
@1967davethewave5 жыл бұрын
GM officially pulled out of factory sponsored racing in 1964 I believe. So any time they raced it was through back door programs or private sponsorship. Ford kept sponsoring racing through the same period as Mopar but they generally sold production cars that were more tame than Mopar or GM. And by that I mean that the standard engines on Ford cars were generally smaller and even had 2 bbls where GM and Mopar had cars like the Road Runner and GTO and 442 and R/T that came standard with big engines. You could get a 302 2bbl in a '69 Torino GT. Yes you could get a bad ass 428 in them but I don't think that was standard in any package, just an option.

Even with the low compression 340 that featherweight Duster was really quick. It wasn't totally stock though. I bolted on headers and a more free flowing exhaust and shit canned the smog equipment and it was a totally different car than it was bone stock. The 340 Duster and Dart Sport 340 were maybe the fastest car you could still buy in 1973 other than an SD455 T/A. Ford and most of GM had nothing by that point and the 383, 440/6, and Hemi were gone. Because the 383 was the low level performance big block engine, as the 440 was built to take the pounding they were designed for. The 6 pack was also a tuning nightmare for shade tree mechanics, not for the faint at heart.
@Colt-tf6xf5 жыл бұрын
Reginald Campbell they didn't have to, the 383 four barrel in a ROAD Runner had 440 heads most of the time, and wasn't cammed like a 383 Satellite wagon and would often outrun nearly all competitive muscle car wannabes and if you had to have a sixpak it was 340 or 440, the HEMI had one or TWO four barrels , what more could you need ?
@kevinlimo6965 жыл бұрын
The 383 came in two versions, 2bbl and 4bbl “super commando “ and as I remember the block and heads were the same. Cam was slightly bumpier than the 2bbl version. Also the commando had dual exhaust and a better low end rear end as well as slightly wider rubber 70’s versus 78’s. Ih yes the exhaust manifolds flowed a little better as well.
@Colt-tf6xf5 жыл бұрын
kevinlimo696 you're kind of correct, Plymouth was a tad short on high performance 383 heads and really wanted to make a splash when the brought out the RoadRunner, so some actually were sent out with 440 motors at no charge and no mention of the obvious upgrade. Many got shipped with 440 heads on the 383 block, my source on this info was from HotRod articles about MOPAR, and Mr. Norm from Chicago, sort of like Pontiac sending the first GTOs out for testing with the 421s instead of 389s. The difference was Plymouth delivered them to consumers hoping to inspire more sales, I guess it worked, they sold a pile of them. Your facts are correct off the order forms of the day though. Every manufacturer has some or many great vehicles to offer! But Mopar really does rule.. and never owned a Ford or Mopar yet. Keeping as brief as possible, in 2003 I was 6 years old. HotWheels movie came out. Had a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner in it (and '55 Nomad and '59 XP-87 Stingray, and '63 Stingray Coupe,etc.) That Road Runner had quite abit of screentime and the car was absolutely awesome. I've had 10 vehicles, 5 were Pontiacs and I had a Camaro, all 70s cars, one 68 Pontiac. My favorite car of ALL TIME is the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona CSX2287, but my dreamcar is the '70 Road Runner all the way. 383, 440, 426 no matter. (Prefer a 440, though) It is INEVITABLE, I ABSOLUTELY WILL have that car. I literally have more Plymouth toys than Pontiac, which is kinda surprising. I love my T/As and such, but Road Runner all the way. Don't care for the Satellite, no need for a GTX. *road runner* is the only car I need. My "dream garage" has many things, but I'm sure it will turn out the way I plan, unless greater: '70 Road Runner, Burnt Orange, '69 A12 style hood 440 6 BBL '78 Trans Am, Martinique Blue '68-'72 Stingray 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO 🇺🇸 ....Those 2002 WS-6 Trans Ams would be a cool ZooM car. Didn't care for them at first, but grew on me. At least 1998-2002. 3rd gens suck. Will never appreciate a 3rd gen And a bicycle Actually would be cool to have a vintage Harley or Indian motorcycle, but I'm not really a motorcycle guy. I do like the style, though

Mopars are cool, says me, the Chevy guy. One small complain about this week's video: Did your video editor fiddle with the settings? Instead of nice and smooth, the video was jerky. Seems as if there's something wrong with the frames per second settings between camera and post production.

Kevin were you the Kevin on yenko.net?...I know you guys there like mopars and Ford.. but give the G.M. cars some credit..
@cobracharmer61785 жыл бұрын
Yesenia Krueger ; Hot Rod, Car Craft, and Popular Hot Rodding magazines have given G.M.(especially Chevrolet) more credit the last 40yrs than Ford and Chrysler, combined,will get in 2 life times. Fact

@@cobracharmer6178 yes G.M. needed all the help.it could get back in the day of the muscle car..I was there I was a pontiac guy but when.Chevrolet came out with the 427 big bock ..that the one I raced.with.in a 68 camaro 4sppeed and did very well...but you know that pontiac in the early 60s had the car to beat with the 421 Catalina.. .and then G.m Told them to stop racing...in.64 pontiac put the 389 in a tempest (which was forbidden and created the G.T.O.) G.M. said no to putting any motor bigger than a 400 c.i In a mid size car..ford and mopar always did that...the car I raced in 68 was a yenko camaro 4speed and was heavily modified and did very well.. I always felt the pontiac and Chev drove better..if the rules were the same for G.M. and Ford and Mopar the pontiac 421 S.D In a mid size car or a Chev 427 put in many G.M. mid size cars with out the problems.of the copo system...the outcome of racing back then.would have been very different..in 68 when I bought my.yenko 427 camaro the total of yenko cars that year was only.64 camaros....

@@yeseniakrueger1863 ; Thank you for the kind response. I'm 61yrs old now. As a kid, the Cobra was and is my favorite snake. In the Boy Scouts, we named our patrol "Cobra". Our scout master was able to get Cobra patches and we were able to get our mom's to stitch them on our kerchief. During the summers while I was in high school, I worked with my uncle painting apartments and houses.(he owned a 69 Roadrunner, his brother, a 69 Chevelle SS 396) At a paint supply store in Virginia, I spotted a orange car with black hood and louvers. A closer look, I noticed a cobra decal on the front fenders. Then, the Ford name. Didn't know such a car existed. Instant love! I saved enough $$$$ and bought a used 1970 Torino Cobra in Nov.1975, for $800. Today, I own a 69 Ford Cobra fastback with original 428cj 4 spd and 69 Roadrunner with 440 4spd. The issue I have with the 3 mags I mentioned is not 1 in 40yrs hardly mention anything Ford related. Not 1 Cobra has ever been the main photo on the front cover. Either way, I bet it was a blast racing in the 60's. John
