I don't know whether to be impressed or disappointed by the Giant, given the Stumpjumper performance. Propain Spindrift seems to have jumped to the head of my next bike list. 180mm travel and it descends supremely well but surprisingly it climbs beautifully. Great job Propain!

Slowest is 204 seconds, fastest is 165 seconds. Difference is 39 seconds. Percentage wise about 20% slower. If you have 20 minutes of climbing you are going to be about 4 minutes back. Or for 40 minutes of climbing 8 minutes. YMMV

That Stumpy is impressive! I wonder what time the Trance would do with a regular shock? Also I commend you on this test. A lot of people do these tests by feel alone but by having the power meter and keeping your average input to as close to 300watts as possible, it makes the results actually usable. Good job.

Excellent comparison! Good call on leaving the shocks open too. Yeah, all the manufacturers brag about it, but I've never seen a single rider switch his shock setting on the trail. Just because the average watts is the same doesn't make it a fair test, watts doesn't correlate linear with speed, he could be going faster on some bikes at certain points expending a lot more watts then slowing down, this would cause his average watts to hit higher than his average speed, to double speed means to increase power squared, so he could absolutely pin it for the first 10% then slow down considerably for the remaining 90% getting a slower overall time and yet still hit the same average watts because he pinned it at the start.

Recently bought the Altitude and was considering the Ripmo and Stumpjumper Evo. So on my longest common morning ride which has a climb of about an hour long climb it makes about a 5 minute difference. That’s neglecting fatigue and assuming the Ripmo is not substantially more efficient than the Stumpy Evo. Pretty substantial! More likely I would just be less fatigued while keeping pace with my riding group. I expect steeper, rougher climbs would make an even bigger difference. Great info!

This was super interesting and a great idea to be able to apply the same input into each of the bikes and identify which platform puts turning cranks most efficiently into the rear wheel. I ride a 2020 updated Enduro, everybody says it pedals well -or- great. Is that compared to a DH bike -or- XC or Trail -or- it pedals well considering 170 mm/ 170 mm front/rear? It would be really cool to see this exact same set-up for a video done within a family of bikes. ie. Specialized Stumper Jumper 130/140, Stumpjumper Evo 140/150 and an Enduro 170/170. Pick your brand even...it could be Canyon Neuron, Spectral and Strive -or- Evil Following, Offering, Wreckoning. It would be awesome to know if I am losing 20 seconds every 2.5 minutes of working the better part of 4 miles to the top of X with the same input on an Enduro @170 mm vs a StumpJumper @ 150 mm.
