Well, it made me think. What if she wasn't? I mean, he had known issues to see things that weren't there. He saw his sister as a literal pineapple, so what if he just sorta just made up all then pineapple related things? We can't really trust the dude, he interprets people as shadow people. (Side note, if he was on meds, and if it was well documented he had an ability like that, im sure he could have gotten off with insanity. After all, he did commit the act while seeing things)

When was he telling the story? When he was on medication? Nope.. when he was off meds, and in jail.. just seconds removed from picturing fellow inmates as monsters. Our narrator isn’t credible, if you hadn’t figured that out.

Prison often traumatizes individuals, as not only is there intense isolation, but the inmates tend to not be the most sympathetic of humanity. This man did not seem like an overall threat to society; however, when he was pushed over the edge, he was. In this case, I believe that separating him from mainstream society was the right thing to do, but he was sent to the wrong facility when taking his motives into consideration. In other words, an asylum would have been the best option to prevent future incidents similar to what transpired in his sister's bedroom.

Since he does in fact have a proven history of extreme mental illness; he’ll most likely get his insanity plea approved and be sent to a maximum security psych hospital.
