I have some strings of little lights that run on batteries. I put them up just for fun and cuz they are pretty. Then the power went out! I have them strung up at ceiling level, and they light up the whole room.

Cayenne pepper will stop bleeding and cayenne pills will give you time to get help if you are having heart issues. Put small pieces of cardboard between your battery contacts in flashlights to prevent them from leaking acid in storage. Good list, I took notes!

Medications- Last year. I called the VA to get my prescriptions renewed. I waited 5-6 days...they never arrived in the mail like usual. I called and inquired....I was told that they did not have it and did not know when it would be available. That was a real wake up call for me.

You’re literally the first video I’ve seen that mentions infant formula and breastfeeding. That alone earned my subscription. I’ve been prepping for a while. I prep baby wipes. My family takes care of my 95 year old neighbor. We go through a ton of baby wipes, gloves, and pee pads. Think outside the box. If I can’t find those things, my job would be horrible. I’ve got all her necessities ordered automatically. I have 4 years of food put away. Now I’m saving water. If it’s a food grade container, clean it out and put water in it. If it’s not food grade, fill it to flush a toilet. The big cat litter buckets are actually food grade. They hold 35lbs of litter. I fill them with Mylar bags of beans and rice as well as water.!’ Vitamins are under attack. They’re trying to make them a drug that need a prescription. Stock up now on vitamin D and any others you take. Take a first aide CPR class too. 😊

Cat litter buckets are also a good way to store ammo...If there's some litter in it, it will keep the ammo dry...plus, if someone breaks in, most people aren't likely to look in the kitty litter for it...

Powdered milk, it can be a lifesaver and you can also make cheese. All you need is something acidic such as lime juice, lemon juice to separate the curds and whey! Cheesecloth to squeeze the cheese into. Delicious. A pizza can be made in a Dutch oven and the cheese added for a tasty snack.

Being a retired oil refinery worker I have specific knowledge of what types of chemicals have the best shelf life. Gas loses its vapor pressure over time. Gas produced in the winter has a shorter shelf life then that produced in summer. Diesel tends to gel up over time. Lamp oil and propane are products that have a longer shelf life. Something to keep in mind if your stockpiling these items. Diesel and gas should be used and replenished. Don't keep longer then 3 to 6 months.

Can openers don't last very long till they quit working. I suggest the military P-38 can opener. I have a hand dug well with a manual pump on it. Be careful everyone.

I have a cheap but good can opener that I have used for many years. I decided to upgrade and purchased an expensive fancy looking can opener. It didn't last more than a few weeks. I'll stick with the what I got. Yet I do have a backup.

My dad's mate always had a flathead screw driver and pliers. I watch him once slam the screwdriver into a tin can with a rock, the top split a little and he peeled it back with the pliers, fricking fascinating guy. He was like a modern day viking. I asked him if he would eat someone if he had to and he said '' nope, people are bad for you'' 🤣🤣🤣 great guy!!

oh try the ez opener can opener. I have had it since 1994 after my house caught fire and just picked it up who knows where. I have much prettier ones, fancy ones, electric ones over the years and none lasted. So stopped trying to fix what is not broken. I bought a few to give to family who have had bad experiences and they rave about it.

I second that they don't last very long usually. I had one of those sold on TV smooth edge openers that lasted forever!! I got it as a gift in high school and still had it when I got married! Ended up throwing it out because I was living in a moldy house and everything was severely contaminated. After replacing it with a cheapy that only lasted a month, I spent the extra bucks to buy another one! Best decision ever! those things last forever. I want to get a second one as a back up just in case!

I found headlamps in my local Dollar Tree . They use 3 aaa batteries . Couldn’t believe how bright they are and for the price of 1.00 they are great . I bought 8 of them for use and barter items.

I lived in Mexico for about five years and learned to live with much less than we do here... I am very grateful for that because I learned a lot of how much we can do with very little...

Get some of those Zote laundry bars of soap for washing clothes. They are easy to carry and store. We use them when we go camping and we need to wash out our riding gear.

Zote is a great backup for laundry. I shave my zote bars down and add to Arm & Hammer Laundry detergent and Borox. This makes a lot and last a long time cause you only need to use about a tablespoon per load of wash.

The ZOTE laundry bars are actually good not only for laundry but it's also strong enough to cut grease of dishes and safe enought for hair and skin, also could be used to keep away mosquitos... Another way it's been used in Mexico is for constipation you shape it like a suppository and there you go😬( only the white one though), yup I've seen it happen.. Plus they're only like $1. Can't beat that...

On the topic of infant formula...around the time of the 60's it was common practice to use Carnation brand Evaporated milk as baby formula. Nowadays I wouldn't, but in a pinch it would suffice, knowing it has been used and no bad effects whatsoever.

It definitely doesn’t have everything a baby would need for the long term though. It’s missing so much that they need. I think during long term break downs, we will see a return of milk sharing and wet nursing. Mom to mom sharing of milk. I’ve always thankfully been able to breastfeed, and I have breastfed another hungry baby in need before. No questions asked, I will do it again!

I always start Christmas shopping in June \ July - I start with people whose birthdays have passed by then. I love Christmas. I look forward to it. I don't want it to go by the wayside and become depressing. Things don't have to be extravagant. It's just nice to have some things under the tree. Some special foods too. Shop early little bits at a time.

I heard a few preppers recommend pool shock as a bleach substitute for purifying water. Many pool shock products also contain cyanuric acid - a stabilizer that extends the life of bleach in sunlit water...but it's presence is why you don't want to use your pool as a drinking water source.

As a single Mom the nicest thing to do for someone. My lawnmower broke. My neighbor farmer. Came and ran through part of backyard. I almost cried.another one came and sharpened up the blade and tune up. It was a true blessing.moms r all busy. But was a enormous relief. Kids need to know how to work on stuff also.

I don't have a baby but my cousin does and I added powdered milk for his benefit. Also, I have a can of powdered cat milk replacement w. bottle because after hurricane Maria I found 3 newborn kittens, umbilical cords still wet and raw. I tried so hard to save them, but by next morning they were all dead. So, yeah, still a bit traumatized about them.

Also, one extra container of white sugar for the bees. They go absolutely insane with hunger after a disaster. You can dissolve it in water and place it in a shallow pan with stones for landing, away from houses. Other animals may also benefit.

Over -the -door shoe holders are great. You can store medical supplies - Tylenol, Advil and cough syrup went fast last year in my area (NJ) it took quite a while to come back to the shelves. OraGel is good to have too. First aid items are also important. All of that is pretty lightweight and can go in the over -the -door organizers. Batteries and small flashlights and emergency candles with matches \lighters - can all be stored on a door - a good use of space.

May i suggest Bike tire tubes and tire tubes in general and also patching kits/materials. There are very few bike tire tubes made in the US. In fact last time I looked into it REALLY hard about 15 years ago there were none. In fact i couldn't findone in North America . That could have changed obviously and i could have missed one. Also bike parts in general. Bike wagons as well Bikes are amazing if we run out of fuel or need to conserve fuel. Quiet, easily portable, easy to repair, etc. Preppers ideal fall back vehicle.

Very good list...however, if you make a lot of garbage you need to have a place and way of disposal to prevent rodent attraction. Burning might not be the best solution at first and burying may be difficult. Just a thought. Lots of garbage might attract more than rodents if people think you have more than you need...if you know what I mean.

If you store water in the big containers outside, keep in mind where it is located and your climate. Algae will form in the type of containers pictured and in the colder areas it may freeze and crack the containers. To prevent Algae you may need to paint or cover the containers. If they are buried, keep in mind that you will need a method to get the water up out of the containers.

Exactly. Water is often not thought of as much as food. It’s especially important for the freeze dried foods. If you don’t have water, you cannot eat or drink and all is lost. I definitely second the use of filters and purification methods. Also going further, look at ways to collect water in bulk if you can as well.

Extremely true! Burkey systems with extra parts and extra filters many as possible. As well as a way to clean them and get the most use out of them. As well a still like bighorn you can buy on line to purify water as well make fuel that can burn out of the same system. Water purify tablets many as possible life straws water filtration water bottles with extra filters. The 55 gallon food grade plastic blue drums with a good pump as well put in the water stabilizer to get last longer. Keep out of sun. As well use the drums to connect together to catch rain water but use very fine screen to keep bugs out larva so on. As well learn charcoal methods. Remember 3 days without water you can die. Need for drinking cooking as well sponge baths if need keep from sickness. But bottles of drinking water is good to stack but after i think 2 years it can become toxic so use and rotate as you go. Then lots of cheep food preps 5 galion buckets food grade with mylar and 2000 cc oxygen absorbers rice and beans. Yes plenty of seasons. Salt is very important you die without salt. Look into 5 galion buckets whole rolled oats as well hard red winter wheat and white berry's. Lots of canned food look into keystone chicken hamburger beef Turkey. It has a very long shelf life as well is good and cooked already. You can use and rotate as you go. Honey is very important on many levels real hunny store in mason jars if can. Always have a very large medical kit for even severe things as in quick clot learn to stitch get the stuff to stitch with and lots of ways to keep clean. A good wood burning stove extra parts seals and extra chimney sweeps. Good cast cookwear to cook with and try stock a year worth of wood to start. Get lots matches lighters few good fire starting rods. As well home protection is extremely important as well plenty practice as well training is a must! Keep extra parts oils cleaning kits for protection. Get good film for your windows that will keep from them smashing in keep 4 to 6 at least fire extinguishers on hand at all times smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Try to buold yourself a good solar backup for emergency to charge radios phones if got cell service still but always have a good coms set up to communicate as well hear whats going on. If can try get a good 3a+ tactical vest and rifle plates 3a+ helmet anything to help keep safe if others try to harm you in your home or kill you keep gear to protect self from gunshot wounds. Another thing if can get good night vision so if things ever do collapse and it gets really bad you can see at night people coming up. Get solar flood lights put all around your property so you can always see them and they no you can see them as well. Only people coming to hurt or kill you. Have a seed vault the seeds last for a very long time you definitely need a way to grow food. Keep a large propane burner so you can as well always can food grown as well as any meat you may raise or hunt. Because no electricity u will need to keep your meat good. A good solar generator if have cash as well a good battery backup. Lot of rechargeable batteries for things in your home. Lots of big candles clean burning lamp oil with lots of extra wicks. Look at crisco homemade candles work a long time and very very well. But if on medication if you cant get it please look into natural resources as in ways that will help it is better than nothing. Get books on all edible plants in your state so you no whats safe and not safe to eat. As well as just any servival and medical books you can. Someday no internet books will be all you have. And yes all old tools as in tools to repair your home hand drills saws any hand tools you can get and get extras. Good yard security lots of ways to make noise and no if someone is outside if you dont see them first you can hear them. Stock up on animal food meds as well dogs are always good for security as well mans best friend help keep stress leveks down

If I may suggest...books on survival, off grid living, methods of home security, veggie gardening. Any books or manuals that you can have in your home library. When the grid goes down you will need access to this since there likely will be no internet.

I was mentally adding up how much all this was going to cost. I lost it when you said stockpile cash lol. A video on how to work though to prioritizing preps but still being paying off debt and stockpiling cash would be great

A small goal would be an extra 100 a check. Take 20 and put it aside for spare cash. Take 50 and put it towards paying off debt. Then take the last 30 and put it towards preps. Some weeks may call for you to flip those numbers around but I think of that as a good guideline.

I put together a spreadsheet that I use to keep an inventory of what I have and what I need to prep and use different colors to prioritize future purchases. I also keep track of the costs which I update as prices increase. For insurance purposes and just so I can track the cost of my efforts. Also, because I have my preps concealed throughout my home rather than in a pantry or room the spreadsheet gives me the visual that I need to assess what I've got.

Love prepping. My dad use to hunt, fish, farm veggies, pick mushrooms and berries so I learned that while growing up. I live in Europe and I encourage everyone to prep but many think they don't need to. My advice is to study on etable herbs. Get a Berkey water filtration system. Bottled water will run out, a Berkey can purify swamp water! Also a couple of life straws. Next buy a solar battery with panels. You’re using the sun to recharge items not gasoline or propane.

Berkeys are awesome but not affordable for a lot of folks. We bought one years ago at tax time. However!! I saw a video on here with a guy who made his own DIY Berkey with food grade buckets, and filters, and it was maybe 70 bucks total. I have no idea which channel it was but I'm sure you could search and find it. I was pretty floored to be honest.

Alkaline cells are good for use right now, but they WILL leak at some point, destroying adjacent cells and possibly the device they are in. Lithium cells are a far better choice for long term storage.

I use Case-Guard plastic ammo boxes that you would use to store ammo in after reloading. I use .223 and 9mm boxes. The .223 works to hold AA batts and the 9mm hold AAA batts. Just a thought since they have individual cells for each battery should they leak. Lithium batts are great but expensive and you have to have a charger. I just use good old Duracel alkaline batts.

I don't have babies are grown but I do have put away a few diapers for the grandkids. I heard on a different video it's better stock the bigger diapers cause you can tape a big diaper on a small child rather than a tiny diaper on bigger kid😊 just sayin

Don't need diapers they are expensive and also bad for the environment. People need to start using proper cloth nappies like the good ole days and wash them through. Other diapers are lazy and will cause so many disgusting trash issues. People need to go back to basics instead of relying on convenience.

Finally, someone mentions insecticides. You should also have rodenticides and fungicides to protect food stores and help with flood recovery. A flooded basement from a burst pipe is not to far off from hurricane recovery.

Also helps to know some local plants that edible and good sources of vitamin C. Most pine trees- but be careful, some are not!- any member of the mint family, rose hips, etc. Combined those cover year-round. Just make sure it's not the wrong kind of pine tree- Yew, ponderosa, and I think there might be one or two more you need to avoid. Most other types of pine and spruce are fine.

Great tips...Living in S FL, I was raised to be prepared for Hurricane season. A few years ago I purchased 3 portable bottle bidets, 1 for each family member in my house. Last year with the Great TP shortage they came in real handy. I think a Portable shower bag or something like a Big Kahuna water spray system would do wonders to help keep you clean in an emergency situation. I also took an Emergency/First-Aid Prep class and learned how to properly use a tourniquet. I added a few of those in my Emergency bag, being able to stop or slow a major bleed is critical along with knowing CPR and how to stiches. Adding a few packs of the "Zip-Stitch Sutures" in the First aid kit is good to help close a wound without stitches.

I'm not great with bloody wounds, so being able to not actually have to stitch someone up would be a better solution for me. Storing foods in different ways, store bought, canning, dehydrating helpful. Babies can drink milk, my kids grew up healthy on vit.d milk, powered milk, pet milk also powdered potatoes, dehydrate and power veges. If you're a canner store water in empty jars when not in use.

Have a little stash of zip ties, super glue, there’s something called shoe goo, which will keep your shoes/workboots maintained. Also, small creature comforts that you don’t want to have to live without, like chapstick, baby powder, or whatever stuff you’ve grown to rely on.

I just added a 2.9 gallon water purifier to my stash running 3 filters good for 9000 gallons. With a pool out back at about 10K gallons I should be good for some time and have 50 gallons at the ready at all times. A portable air compressor is helpful for vehicular maintenance in case you need to skiddadle. Butterfly strips are easier than keeping suture supplies on hand, especially if you have never stitched flesh back together before. It's always best to practice survival skills before you need to but not too many would volunteer to let you practice your sewing skills on them...

Dry milk with added vitamins (It might be called Nido, sorry not sure but sold at Sam's in baby section ) extra reading glasses, portable toliet (in case of water shut down) Solar charging Battery packs for phone charging or other communication devices such as Ham Radios . Cigarettes, Coffee and Alcohol (good barter items), tents (can be set up inside to stay warmer during any winter power outages) , firewood and fire extinguishers , carbon monoxide detectors inside of the home , good walking shoes or snake boots for wooded areas.

My 10-year-old is still in diapers (autistic), and the entirety of the space underneath the bathroom sink is just crammed full of diapers and related supplies. One thing that might be good to have for diapers, lady's sanitary items, or anything else that has bodily grossness on or in it might be like those doggy poop bags. Anyone who's popped the top off of a diaper pail to empty it and felt the room spin as the stench hit them can understand why having those things sealed helps with bad smells and cleanliness in general. Given what they're made for, they do an acceptable job of containing stinky things.

Hey Jr! I had a friend recommend buying baby wipes at the dollar tree, I think they are Huggies brand, anyway, you can use those if you aren't able to take a shower. I think she mentioned you get more in the package than the other brands they have, but it's still good to have something just to clean up and refresh yourself. I like the water bricks, but man alive!, they get heavy! I'm a little ol lady, and they end up weighing more than I do! But I'm still going to use them! Thanks for another great video! 👍

I just bought 400 wipes for $24. I found them in the swimming and camping section at my local Walmart. Not baby wipes, but wipes intended for general body cleaning after a day at the beach.

Baby wipes will dry out sometimes even before you open them. You can add a mixture of water and liquid hand soap to moisten them again. Best wishes~

You can use a sterno stove outside. Put a metal cooking sheet on a sturdy table or an empty charcoal grill. You need ventilation to use a sterno stove.

Be careful how many water bottles you stockpile. Most of the bottles are pretty weak and will start to leak if stacked too high or for too long. The same goes for the jugs.

Good general vid, one thing to mention is that those rubber washing up gloves break down, I had to throw away a bunch before even using them. I have no idea whether the old standby of mylar bags would keep them for longer. Though that might be a case of overkill.....
