This is true. Mental preparedness is everyday life. For example, I will bend over backward for my own dog and did the other day. Lol. Seriously, old girl got stuck chasing a rat and had to go in tight, confined spaces and force her up and out. Other dog just alerted, and there I stood typing the first 3 lines with nothing. Don't know what happened, he got upset about something.we live in an area where we get up with a dog bark, even in a deep sleep. Scary, huh? Can you reach for what you need in a deep sleep? I lived in Orange County, CA 1998-2010. There were a few scenarios where I thought about bugging out. Los Angeles Metro population is over 11 million. All food is transported in. Surrounding hills and mountains don't have enough wildlife to feed 11 million people. Egress routes to the North, East and South would quickly be clogged. San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) has its own evacuation plan and routes. Best choice was to build and maintain a pantry and stay in for a week.

You can get what's called a "dry loop" from the phone company, which is just a really long twisted pair wire between two addresses. Even if everything is down, including the phone company's main office, you will still have a working alarm system. Banks and other high security places usually have something like that set up.

Reference storing water. I have 2 “ water bobs “ even if the entire grid goes down, the water pipes will stay pressurized for a day or two. Each “ water Bob “ stores 100 gallons of water. Also remember, if you have a watertank electric water heater, that stores 50-60 gallons of water.

If you're in a situation with a stomach virus and really should be in hospital but there's no space, that's a big hardship on you and your family. Buy disposable adult diapers - two packs sized to fit every family member. When you're really sick, you can be going through ALL of your sheets and ALL of your underwear in a short time. Another nice thing to have would be a good quantity of activated charcoal; this can greatly lessen the severity of a stomach infection or poisoning.

Be mindful of chemical leaching from the plastic! It will slowly degrade over time and into your water. I suggest using alternative means such as glass if you’re able to. If this ends up as a last resort, store them in cool, dark places out of the sun which will break down the material faster.

Easiest thing to do now if you have an air conditioner: buy a new, clean trash can and start collecting your condensate water. In about a week, I had 32 gallons that was clean enough to drink, but more likely would be used for cleaning, bathing, and irrigation. You can install a spigot at the bottom or keep it simple and put a hand siphon pump in the top.

Water from air conditioner IS NOT safe to drink! I’m a Hvac technician for almost 30 years. It has biological contamination in it! From your body as well as mold spores. Treat it and filter it before you do something like this. Also remember that when you have your unit services, remember that anti algae compounds and coil cleaning chemicals are used. Poison for humans and pets
@AmbuBadger2 жыл бұрын
@@dees1378 Good to know. I've only used it to water plants so far, and it would be out through a filter if needed, but now I'll have to see if filtering will be enough to take of that coil cleaner you mentioned!

Looking at freeze dried foods it seems like most are soup or casserole type food you can buy the same ingredients independently much cheaper and they provide the same food the same taste I just don't see the point of the freeze dried unless you're a backpacker in an area where there's plentiful water I see no point in it. Where I live water is a bigger issue than energy to cook with so freeze dried food is not for me.
@angeladansie43782 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't buy the freeze dried meals. Not only are they expensive, but they're also not always palatable. You can buy the separate ingredients & make your own. The benefit of freeze dried is that it lasts almost forever. Most of my cans of freeze dried foods have an expiration date of 2040-2050. And freeze dried foods don't take any more water than regular cooking if you're talking about rice, beans, pasta, etc. And it maintains nutrients & flavor better than canned or dehydrated food. And it's almost weightless if you're looking at a bug out situation

Essential oils are a great thing to add to your stockpile. Uses are far and wide, from insect and vermin repellant, to hygiene, emotional and medicinal uses. Buy good quality, therapeutic grade oils. They have a long shelf-life and each standard-sized bottle (doTERRA or Young Living) have about 240 drops. Considering you only use a drop or few at a time, they last a good while. Keep tightly capped to avoid oxidation.

I’m a welder. I’ve been thinking bout building a 6x8x6high bomb shelter. In my area, we won’t take a direct hit. But nuclear or ash fallout surly could. I believe a lot of the people (living outside suburbs) are in the same situation.

Calculate air in air out.. and human btu.. Escape hatch. Think submarine. Fire is a thing. I recommend 200 Sq ft per person. Pending fallout you could be in there for minimum 14 days for safe time outside. 3 feet of earth minimum all around
@shanearnold6852 жыл бұрын
@@jeffburton4576 Most definitely, air in air out. 200 SF per person? Seems elaborate? If you think of the Donner party? They lived in a make shift tent with up to 12 people for 3 months in 25’ deep snow. In possibility one of the most inhospitable places on the continent….. This proves to me a person can lay down or sit up to eat for an extended period of time. These elaborate bunkers are so OVER DONE. There needs to be something for the masses.

We keep some extra tap water stored for washing, hygiene & a lil cooking, (in used spring water #2 plastic jugs that you didn't recommend, but we have a ton of) would that water for those purposes have to be purfied? Our tap water is chlorinated to Death (hence we drink bottled) but, upon storing tap in the empty jugs for months at a time, I'm concerned about bacteria growing in em! Is this a thing, or could y'steer me to someone who could answer this correctly?? Thanks!

I bought 5-gal stackable water containers from Kirkland on Amazon. Also bought H2O ResQ water sanitizer/preserver. It’s a silver/copper mix also on Amazon. The size we got will sanitize 330 gallons of water for 5 years. I guess maybe longer as I don’t think the silver and copper deteriorate over time. We use silver and copper already for health and that was much more desirable than the chemical sanitizers. Another one I was looking at is chlorine dioxide. I have been reading up on this anyway for health purposes as my daughter and I struggle with persistent Lyme & tick diseases for the last 6+ years. But I purchased the silver/copper blend as it seems less dangerous- the chlorine dioxide ingredients are incredibly caustic before they are mixed
