Hi I am designing a container home for myself. I am leaving the internal walls as they are. So I am insulating the external walls and having a green roof with whirly gigs. I intend to have epoxy flooring throughout, no windows on outside walls and windows and doors on inside walls. Sorry 2 40ft containers 10ft apart facing each other. I intend to leave the end doors intact. One container consists of a cental island kitchen to access from both sides. The rest is lounging and dining. The other container is for sleeping and bathing. I do not intend to create divided rooms with walls. There will be a deck between the two containers and shade sales overhead. Both ends of the deck will be fenced from one container to the other creating a courtyard.

do open side door containers have stronger top rails to compensate for the large side panel that exists on normal containers? I'm interested in connecting multiple 40-foot containers together with no walls between the interior areas of the containers, but I don't want to take a chance that I might compromise the structural integrity of the containers but cutting out entire side panels.

They may well have, but they appear to be very expensive. I got a quote for a side opening for 4 times the price of a normal end opening one. ☹️

Good educational info needed before you design and buy. Someone likely to screw you around on price and bring you rusty junk if you not know much about them. I suppose there are different grade ratings along with different condition ratings as well needed to know about.

When i think about it, it would be a good idea to go look at the containers being offered and pick out what you want before buying, no matter the inconvenience and length of trip. If the seller is honest, they should not mind letting you do this.

@2:00 is a "20 foot high cube", I've never seen one, a standard high cube is 40 feet. Such a thing would be a problem on ships or double stack trains as it would need to paired with the same height container.

They exist. I'm in the US. Problem is they're expensive. The place I got mine had several 20' high cubes. Mostly 1 trips and they run about 4600 delivered in my area. I just bought a 40' high cube, wind/water tight. No rust but a dent on 1 side and no patches for 2900 delivered.

they only differ in length and height. Width is always 238 cm.

ive been wondering whether or not it is possible to take 2 open side containers, removeing the sidedoors by taking out the hinges or cutting it out (reducing cost and time) welding it together to create a bigger space. And then making a top floor doing exactly the same. I thought about this cus ive seen when containers are being cut, they tend to collapse under their own weight and open sides containers dont when the doors are opened. My guess is that they are more reinforced in that sideframe than others, which means less added support necessary perhaps even none, i could be totally wrong tho

I know someone that used 4 53 foot refer trailers . Cut the sides and put side by side. He alternated two for cooling and heating. Put a 10,000 gallon fuel tank hooked to all 4 units. Works good though.
