there was one year at ozzfest back in 03 maybe 04 in San Antonio that I was at and David stopped the show and asked the crowed to pull a disabled person in a wheel chair on stage. I was 13 or 14 years old and was in all.. "anyone that's in a wheel chair in one of my pits can share the stage with me any day!" There's actually a lot of truth to that. When I was evolving into the metal scene in 83-84ish I felt the music just had more brain power involved. At that point I was already very keyed in to the likes of John Denver, Peter Paul & Mary, The Beatles/John Lennon, Johnny Cash Simon & Garfunkle, Joe & Eddie and alike. I knew the power of intelligent lyrics. I was seeing it in a lot of metal at the time. Then I found Iron Maiden. Just about every one of their songs is taken from history, literature and epic poetry. Mental midgets don't pay attention to those things. Keep in mind when I say "metal" I'm talking about the full spectrum. from hair bands to thrash and beyond. Now I look back 30 years later and can see that the bands that really didn't have anything important to say are gone. Forgotten by everybody. Some of those bands had a couple songs that had something intelligent to say and we remember the songs. Not the band. The more intelligent the artists, like Disturbed, the longer they last. Current guys that are going to be around in 30 years.... Five Finger Death Punch Avenged Sevenfold Disturbed right off the top of my head. Metalheads will never die so raise your horns up to the sky. \m/
