Great video, thanks! My local supermarket lets me scan the barcode on all the items that I want to buy and adds up the total before I get to the checkout, and I just pay through the app or at special checkout and off I go. No queueing up and better, still no unpacking the groceries at the checkout, and then re-packing them afterwards! Best use of the camera ever!

Long ago, I was zooming in on annoyingly small print - directions for use on product cans and so forth. These are so useful, many thanks. I am absolutely charmed at being able to scan a GOOD COPY now. Some of the older apps also scanned, but weren’t as easy as it is this way. There is no excuse for sending a terrible jpg of a document now, when you can send a multi-page, high reso, neat pdf instead. I learned this trick from your previous video. Thanks a million.

Photo "gallery?" Do you mean your Photo's app library? If you use iCloud Photos on both devices you'll see the same library in both places.

☺ It would be helpful if you told or wrote for which iOS system you’re making the video. I have a iPhone 7 Plus with the latest update 15.5. And I am Dutch, so my iOS language is Dutch. I don’t see the little square symbol on the right in my camera view. Or did I miss it? But you have a lot of other helpful hints and tricks for me. Thanks a lot, Gary!
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
The Camera app is highly dependent on which cameras you have (which model of iPhone) and which version of iOS. There are many variations. iPhone 7 is definitely an "older" model at this point and iOS 15 has been replaced with iOS 16 (but your iPhone is too old for it). So you won't see all of the features.

You'd need to bring it into an app and resize it, assuming it is an image not a PDF.

Thanks for the video! I'd like to use the macbook to take pictures in the iPhone without having to touch the phone - do you know if there is a simple way to do it? In a way that I can see in the macbook's screen what the iphone camera sees and click to shoot from the keyboard?
@@macmost t I tried this using Photo Booth app, but it doesn't allow to really control the phone camera.. It indeed allowed to shoot without touching the phone, but I wasn't able to zoom or anything else, and the pictures seem to come with lower resolution and quality than it would be possible otherwise. I guess the best way is to use an remote, like you showed in another video, and maybe mirror the screen while doing this.
@macmost Жыл бұрын
@@priscilagonzaga Would help if I knew what you were really trying to do. What's your GOAL here? What are you doing and WHY do you need to take photos with the iPhone from your Mac?
@priscilagonzaga Жыл бұрын
@@macmost I take photos from books (mostly for my portfolio) and sometimes do small stop motion projects. I don't have a professional camera. So it is basically a fixed position, the phone mounted in a stand and I need to flip the pages and shoot checking if focus and light are still ok.

@macmost2 жыл бұрын
The 8 is pretty old at this point, so if you try it and it doesn't work you know why. Apple lists what works and what doesn't on their feature pages in the footnotes.

There is a bug with reminders, I have shown it to Apple support and they logged it. Its been around for some time. Use case: create reminders on MAC (e.g. Monterey) and add image from connected iPhone. iPhone takes picture, but it doesn't show up in the reminder. A scan using iPhone will sort of show up. Of course use case of reminders on iPhone, scan a picture, does work. This is annoying, because I use reminders, edited/created on MAC for a shopping list and I like to add pictures of items using iPhone, this way when my wife shops, she can see pictures of items on shared reminder list.

Your cool trick for scanning in notes…I discovered I could extend it, by noting the I can delete or re-order the individual scans using the miniatures at the bottom of the screen. The Share as PDF to an email, iMessage, Dropbox or Files location etc. T h a n k s! Also the scan function, is good at reducing wrinkles from crumbled papers.

Be very careful with QR codes from ads in newspapers or magazine. Many of them are not vetted by the publishing entity and may lead you to malicious sites. Be sure to look at the URL and verify that it goes where you might want to go.
