my biggest motivation is the community, just being able to talk about my writing with other people who understand and them being excited for what I'm doing makes me all the more ready to get it done

I'll just add novelty or new setting. Sometimes, just changing places where we write can boost our inspiration. Actually, that is most of the time. Say, we write on one desk for hours every day and we feel drain and unmotivated; we can find motivation again just by moving to a different place. This is why I rearrange my room every six months and write outside at least once a week on different coffee shops with different views and ambience. That way, I get my creativity flowing.

I love author interviews! Victoria Schwab is one of my favorites. She is super open and honest about her struggles and doubts, but she's also a multi-time NYT bestseller. One other thing that helps me is reminding myself of the very personal reason why I started writing in the first place. Why am I doing this? How do I want it to ultimately help other people? I did a whole video on it about a month ago, but I think figuring out the answer to WHY is incredibly important motivation.

WHY is absolutely huge with writing :) Victoria Schwab is great!

I remember recommending this topic, so thanks so much! I also want to listen to more author interviews, but I sometimes get jealous of famous authors. Famous people in general. I wish I have the platform they have with my own books, but this ultimately serves as inspiration for me to continue writing even if I may not be famous from writing.

Thanks for the tips, I've been wanting to write my first story since last year but whenever I find the time to write I just could never get the same feeling as when my story was formed in my head and thus I just end up staring at my laptop or notepad for hours on end without any progress.

That's a very common thing early on with a writing career/journey. On Saturday, Jan 1, I'm uploading a video about how to write a book that might help you out!

Watching your videos motivates me ! ;) Also I would say that consistency is such a good way of being motivated to write (or anything, really). It's not something that you can do on the spot if you have a low day, but generally speaking it's probably the one I prefer
@SaraLubratt3 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you!! Consistency is huge, I agree!

This was great advice; thanks for sharing! I think I do a lot of the things you mention. It may lean more into the writing habit thing, but having an accountability system that if I don't accomplish something, then it's worse to say I didn't do something, then to just keep in the habit of writing. Sometimes I do need to be nice to myself, and know why I slacked. Sometimes it's okay, and sometimes it isn't. But having a writing buddy/critique group has really helped me have something to focus on each week, and want to share with them. :)

Having a writting buddy or critique group is huge! And a writing habit will always prevail for sure :)

Hello again Sara, I don't know if you're going to read this comment but I want to tell you that this video is super helpful for me. I've been unmotivated for the last two months because I don't have enough ideas to put on paper and because I'm terrible with dialogues. I will try to finish it soon, I just need to stay away from my desktop because it has Internet and Video Games, Video Games is a huge distraction for me, I've been trying to quit it for good but it's hard, besides, I'm getting to old for Video Games. I wish you all the best.
