Don't have a window to vent your portable AC through? Don't panic, there's 10 other ways you could accomplish the venting. The air conditioner DOES need to be vented though, the hot air that gets exhausted should either go outside, into the attic, into the crawlspace, through the wall, or in the wall if you're dealing with an inner wall. In this video I go over the different options you have if you don't have a window you can use for your portable air conditioning. Here are the various products I mentioned in the video:
Universal Slide Door Kit:
amzn.to/3URX1wa
Foam Weather Stripping:
amzn.to/3QEgBtk
Cloth Window Kit:
amzn.to/45JDCRZ
Swing Window Kit:
amzn.to/3zoTXzh
Wall Mount With Plug:
amzn.to/3zixgNu
Dryer Vent Kit:
amzn.to/3VSR0zP
Magnetic Vent Coupling:
amzn.to/3xFsFUR
Vent Hood With Screen:
amzn.to/3VUabJE
Vent Hose Extension:
amzn.to/3xjMl0F
Vent Hose Sleeve:
amzn.to/3REGYjf
I suggested getting a unit that self-evaporates but please do your own research regarding what portable AC you should get. Look through the product descriptions for phrases like "self evaporating technology", "drain free design", "auto drain function", etc. If you need some examples, the units below are all drain-free:
Black and Decker:
amzn.to/4eAkdH1
SereneLife:
amzn.to/3xuLg5Z
Hisense:
amzn.to/3xuPieC
Humhold:
amzn.to/3L2aY4R
Dreo:
amzn.to/4escrz0

I would expect the neighbour to just spray expanding foam into the hole and close it off, burning out your compressor and blower motor. But good joke. Thing is, I've actually see this done with a conventional window AC in a restaurant though the other side was their space too.

Got one for my folks! central AC took a dump. My trusty AC guy said to do a vacum test to check for leaks was $800. Then if there was a problem with condensor or evap both would need to be changed cause refrigerant is different now….20K!!! Think he’s trying to hose us(no pun). So we got a portable for now. SoCal summers are hot they are 86yrs old. It’s a single hose. Works well BUT hose needs to be covered for the radiant heat and also any where air can come in. At first it wasn’t working that well until we saw the central vent on the ceiling. It was drawing hot air due to the vacum produced by the unit. Plugged it up and BAM…nice cool air!! Sorry for the long story but maybe adding my lamens $.02 can help. Keep up the cool vids please!!!!

We live in Southern Florida. We own our condo with a detached one car garage. Because of this, I am unable to spend time in our garage. I am a middle aged woman going through menopause and I usually get hot very easily. I have been wanting to use the garage for some small projects that I enjoy doing. I have been talking to my husband about possibly getting a portable AC unit so I have been doing my research. Since we do live in a complex with HOA, I want it to look nice, so I enjoy watching these videos.

I'm getting ready to purchase a portable AC unit for my garage. My plan is to raise the overhead door just far enough to be able to attach the vent hose, then block off the remaining open part with heavy cardboard or thin Masonite panels. It will be a little bit of a pain closing it off each time but I spend all day out there so spending a few minutes in the AM will be worth it.

I put one of these in my commercial office space. I cut a hole in the dropped ceiling, removed the tile, passed the exhaust through, extended it and attached it to a steel girder about 12 feet from the floor. It’s been perfect for years. The windows in the building are floor to ceiling glass and don’t open.

Any venting that is not outside of the house is likely to cause issues with mold due to humidity.
@WordofAdviceTV
@WordofAdviceTV Ай бұрын
Yeah... There's that too, though I'm not sure how long it would take for it to become an issue.. I am not well versed in the mold topic so I decided not to go there.

Though an AC that does not vent outside is effectively a dehumidifier. They actually advertise the portable AC's as a dehumidifier if you exhaust indoors when they say 3 in 1 or 4 in 1. Of course, you would have to drain the condensate out rather than let the heat from the compressor evaporate the water but there is often two condensate drain outlets, a low one for manual draining and a high one for a drain hose to drain overflows.

The space above the drop ceiling in an office building is a return air plenum that returns air to the office's HVAC system so the hope is that the building AC is also running to take up the hot air so the portable is just to address a hot spot in the office such as a closet being used as a server room. I've seen a restaurant where they had a standard window airconditioner in an inside wall, dumping the heat into the next room which was actually open to the dining room rather than closed off, that is you could actually just walk around the wall without going through a door. I would imagine it wouldn't have been effective in cooling the room but would blow some cold air in selected areas.

I just bought a dual hose Whynter brand portable air conditioner and it works great! Cools down the entire basement.
@johnwang9914
@johnwang9914 11 күн бұрын
I would've expected a basement to just be cooled by the ground around it. We used to just retreat into the basement during heat waves though that didn't help with trying to sleep unless we camped out down there. Our current house seems to have a radon problem which we didn't know about till my mother died from cancer so you would want to work out upstairs or stand on your head for a while after leaving the basement to get the radon out of your lungs (radon is heavier than air). We'd probably would want to do some radon remediation if we went to using AC instead of ventilating overnight which is what we do now. If you're staying downstairs with AC, get a digital Radon meter to see if you have a radon problem especially if you're close to a water feature such as a ravine or creek and or you have indications of foundation problems as that would mean the land you're on is a bit broken up.

The bathroom fan moves a much LOWER CFM vs the air blowing out of the AC, and the vent pipe on some fans are either 3 or 4". ALso, MOST AC dont need to use the drain line. The water is taken care of on the evaporator coil. Only time the drain is used when you use it as a dehumdifier.

@netook8 15 күн бұрын
If the bathroom fan works, so would the stove hood vent. It may be better for me to route a hose though that than run extension cords, Every room in my apartment with a window is on the same breaker, so running 2 AC units will pop it constantly. my 1 AC can't keep up lately with it getting into the mid 30s(mid to upper 90s). It's just too hot for a single AC to handle. The kitchen has it's own 20A breaker so it makes sense to use that for an additional AC.

I'm really surprised that you did not explain the difference in a single hose and a double hose the single hose when you're blowing the heat outside that air has to be replaced inside for the air that's flowed out so therefore it is sucking air from outside to replace the air that is blowing out so therefore you are sucking heat back into the room that you are cooling. The double hose lets you replace the air that you were blowing out with air from outside without interfering with the cooler in the room.

I suppose renters may not want to permanently modify their residence or may even not want the landlord to know they are using an AC if the utilities are covered by the rent. Portable AC's are usually for when you want the installation to be temporary.

Overall, this type A/C (single vent tube) are the worst & most inefficient units available. No model has the "Energy Star" rating. I did not learn about all the down sides of these until I bought one, I used #3 to vent mine (through the wall with dedicated dryer vent tube). I am ready to switch to a window unit.

Portable A/C unit exhaust includes all the moisture that comes out of the air (easily gallons of water over a warm day) so not good to dump all that moist air into a space like an attic or under the house unless it's really well vented. Also never never use a single hose unit. They are horribly inefficient. Use a nice dual hose like you have there. 👍

Hello 👋 good buddy Jay good to see you my friend well guess what I hooked up a air conditioner like that last week for my cousin rental house and they had me to vent it through one of the window panes because they are what they call six over six and i took a block out and made a filler piece out of Plexiglas..its been extremely hot and humid here i got overheated day before yesterday and I got pretty sick i was by myself and pretty far away from anyone. I had Gatorade i was drinking but it wasn't helping me as quickly as I wanted so i saw some blackberries ripe and I went over and picked a couple of handfuls and ate them and it wasn't more than fifteen minutes i felt strength come back in me and I walked out of the trail back to my truck and came home i was working for my cousin building a boat deck for a pond they have way back on the end of there property, they wasn't home at the time so i couldn't call them but thank God for blackberries must be something in them idk..I hope you all are doing well my number one best friend. Yeah, it seems like mainland is having a bit of a heatwave. Your story about overheating was kind of scary. Thank God that ended well, good to know about the blackberries too! I hope you will be more careful with that going forward, stay cool my friend! All is well on this side of the world, not as hot here. Greetings, love, and blessings from Hawaii!! You need a 2 hose system. The ac takes air in, creates a negative pressure sucking in the 100 degree heat. These 1 hose units should be banned. A 12k btu unit really is only 4k but with the pressure temp loss.
