I feel almost like an old dying man looking back at his youth when I think about playing WotLK back in the day. I have so many precious memories made there, good and bad, mostly good. Rose-tinted goggles deluxe maybe. The entire culture at the time surrounding the game was so cool. And the best part I think was that it seemed to go on forever, like it would never end. Now I don't know if that has to do with the time period of my life, if those times can ever be recreated in any way. Will be interesting to try atleast.

God, the Wintergrasp paratrooper sappers was such a stroke of genius - not only because it was a novel way of utilising the game's mechanics, but of how much sense it makes lore-wise, too - why wouldn't the factions employ engineers in an offensive capacity like that? Parachuting in a squad of tactical sappers to blow the enemy gates open while the defenders are tied up with the bulk of the main army just makes so much sense.

Number one isn't a cop out. It's the honest truth. The one thing I don't like about TBC Classic is that it's meta-min/maxed into oblivion. I miss the days where I went into a raid blind, saw a drop that was an upgrade, and rolled on it. Now we need a spread sheet, we have to give everyone their BIS before anyone else. If you decide to play something that isn't on a websites BIS list, you have problems with the raid leader. "Yes haste sims well and that's why it's on a BIS list. But in a real situation when I have so much haste that I'm clipping attacks during heroism and DST procs, I'd rather have armor pen" those kind of hassles. I used to have player agency. Now it feels like I'm just playing to plug gear into slots of a spread sheet that someone I don't even know created based off of a simulation that isn't always optimal in real scenarios.

When I was able to, I took my DK to outland. So I was 58 or 59. A pug group was forming, and I joined. It was all DK's, and we crushed the Hellfire Ramparts with no problem at all. DK's were a broken class, but it sure was fun times.

I was leveling my prot warrior around then. I tanked for 4 DKs in ramparts. Mostly I sat and watched them kill everything without taking any damage. Fast clear too.

I barely managed to play dk a bit before wrath ended, but I loved it. stuck with it for the rest of my time playing wow. Especially since blood was really good for soloing stuff. I remember there being one person who soloed one of MoP's earlier raid's last boss during the expansion. Once active tanking was implemented, as a dk if you outgeared the content by a bit you pretty much didn't even need a healer for yourself

@@HIPSI808 - I know for me, while I had continued to farm for the TLPD (still don't have that sumbitch...), with the changes to Standard WoW and the "pick an expansion" leveling system, I've deliberately avoided WotLK - because I knew it so well originally, I didn't want to have that memory altered by the weird yoinking of levels. Having come back to WoW Classic for TBC (where I began my WoW journey a REALLY long time ago), I realized that... while I know Outland NOW... there were SO many things about Classic that I didn't remember (mechanics, etc) that it, in many ways, still felt like a new experience. I'm hoping to have that same feeling in WotLK, because as WillE said, Wrath was the PINNACLE of WoW - Cats and Kung Fu Panda slid the game way down, and while there's been bits and pieces of recovery since then... nothing has come close to that feeling when you broke free from Frostmourne and once and for all stared down Arthas atop Icecrown Citadel...

I still remember day 1 arena opening. I was a DK, my friend was a warlock. The lock would sometimes die in the opener. Sometimes he'd cast 3 dots and it was lethal damage if they didn't get healed. And whenever he died, i'd bring him back to life as a ghoul who could leap, stun, pump damage, and i could heal him with death-coil. Ghostcrawlers constant posts on the forums where it was clear he didn't even play the game as a response to balance issues was infuriating at the time, but some of the best MMO content i've witnessed since. The players are different for sure, and the whole pre-social-media hotspots like arena junkies and the official forums made it one of the most engaging period in WoW's history.

What makes wrath so good to me is how finished classes feel. Everything feels good to play. Rotations feel engaging but not bloated for pve. Pacing for pvp is fast but feels fair. Gearing is friendly to casual players but also rewards those who commit to the high end. Meta achievements add life to raid tiers. There's just so much in the game that they did right. From the feel of the zones are so comfy. They really nailed everything. Sure it had some issues and long term, dungeon finder was a problem, as was the addition of a cash shop. As far as game feel goes they've rarely matched it since. MoP came close but the theme of the expansion held it back. Legion is the other stand out as far as my opinion is concerned. Wrath did everything TBC does well but improved on it. Vanilla and Wrsth have been and always will be my favorites and I'm incredibly excited to sail back to the frozen wastes of Northrend.

The biggest issue with wrath and you saying "finished classes" is that every bit of trash becomes an AOE spam fest because they moved away from niches to every class can do everything. They homogenized so much that the game lost most of its diverse appeal. Even in 2009 and especially 2010. People started stacking the specs that did the most and pushing aside the specs that did very little because multiple classes can provide the buffs and the unique buff shamans get are raid wide (bloodlust/heroism), so you only need 1. I also believe without massive changes to how the content is, most players coming off the back of Sunwell content will lose all interest in the game doing Naxx for 4 months then rolling into Ulduar that is SSC/TK level difficulty, most of the hard modes will be on farm week 1 or week 2 for most guilds, zero light is going to be the only challenge for most guilds and it really isn't even required to do. You can get hardmode loot with 1 watcher still up on Yogg. Algalon will not be that hard for most serious guilds. People will get bored of WotLK rather quickly. I predict it will fall faster than TBC did and people will blame all kinds of reasons other than the obvious. Homogenization, ease of content, and all world PVP content being dead, leaving the fight for Wintergrasp to be non-existent content.

You obviously haven't played privy servers. Disc priest, ret, and holy paladin are insanely op. Same with warriors with ICC and togc 25 heroic gear and shield. Almost impossible to hit. I'd say boomkin too but there a huge multi boxing problem on warmane

@@Evirthewarrior I made it pretty clear in my comment that it's just my opinion. I no-lifed most of Wrath and I'm very familiar with it's problems. I still stand by everything I said. I think the wrath levels of homogenized classes was a good thing. You only need to look at how cookie cutter raid comps have been throughout classic and modern expansions to see that it's a player culture issue. Min maxing in the modern gaming space is unavoidable. At least in Wrath meme specs had viability and you could shine by being good at it. Can't say the same for vanilla or TBCC. ESPECIALLY in TBCC, optimal raid comps are so much more ridgid without raidwide buffs.

I am looking forward to questing again throughout Northrend. I am one who loves the story, and since WOTLK is kind of a closing chapter to Warcraft III, it just feels great questing through all the zones. I especially love leveling through Dragonblight. I love hearing the piano riff in that zone and the other zones have great ambient music playing in the background. To me, that is one thing lacking in the current expac. The background music of all the zones seems more doom and gloom. I personally don't even notice any music in Bastion, which you would think would have better, more angelic musical tones for a place that they wanted to look like a nice heaven, even though all the wild grasses and stuff looks already dead. Oh well, I hope we do get to revisit WOTLK. Besides MOP or Legion, that is the WOW Classic expac I am looking forward to.

Even if you do the timewalk/talk to Chromie to lvl through it, you still lvl fairly quickly and you will, of course, be pulled out of it when you hit lvl 50. Honestly, I hated leveling through it originally, since it takes forever, but having to do a lot of the quests just helps as you unfold the layers of the story.

Like I said, I am a very casual player now, so I am not rushing to get to end content. WOTLK had many layers to explore for both Alliance and Horde. Many of which were never really resolved or further explored, but oh well. If they do continue with the Classic expacs, I think I will enjoy revisiting it.

This was only really a problem in trial of the crusader no? Naxx only has 1 real mode, sapphiron as well. Sartharion has 4, if you count 0/1/2/3 dragons up as 1 each. Even more if you count every unique combination. Ulduar has hard modes as well, but they are boss specific and activated doing something during the encounter. Trial of the crusader was the big oof with 4 lockouts per week. 10/25 normal and 10/25 heroic. Then ICC fixed it with only being able to kill bosses once per raid size. So you could kill first boss heroic OR first boss normal, then change the difficulty for 2nd boss. There is no way to make it uniform across the 4 tiers. The only big fix is the 3rd tier, making it so you only have 2 lockouts instead of 4.

Classes that worked, zones with overarching storylines that fit together, accessible content, including end-game raiding, fast-paced pvp... you name it, it had everything. WOTLK was when I got into battlegrounds and pvp, which I had ignored up to then. By Cata I had managed to climb into the top 1000 in honor kills in North American servers. But I assiduously avoided arenas and rated BGs, so I wasn't a "real" pvp player. Then I pretty much quit WoW altogether after Cata. I really loved Wintergrasp, and I was fortunate to be on a server where Alliance and Horde were fairly well balanced. I really enjoyed WOTLK.

I don't feel like this get's talked about enough with WOTLK, but I am really excited just to play the zones. Northrend is my favorite area, Grizzly Hills, Storm Peaks, Dragonblight, it is going to be so awesome seeing these zones with people in them again. Sure, I can go level up an alt in retail using chromie time, but the zones are pretty much dead. This expac and Legion might be the best best expansions wow ever had, can't wait.

warrior is a pretty weak class for a lot of the expansion so keep that in mind, they are only really used as arms warrior for the raid buff for first couple of patches. but towards TOGC/ICC they ramp up and up where fury warrior becomes OP

Yogg 0 guardian day 1, is the feat that is gonna be truly impressive. Up until now, and possibly even in Sunwell. The killing of the bosses has been a mere formality for the top guilds, and the emphasis has been on killing the mobs at a respectable speed.

I'm honestly not sure what their comp was trying to accomplish exactly (I know what the aff locks are for, just not what other factors were to be considered), but it doesn't look that minimal to me. Also, they were stacking Discs/Pallys as healers. Might not be 100% ideal comp-wise, but it shouldn't be too far off either

​@@aufkeinsten7883 about disc priest, the spec was a tank healer in Ulduar. only in the later stages of wrath it became impossible to use more than 1 Disc after they changed the class talents. wrath classic will use 3.3.5 balancing though so meta will be different. stacking affli locks is definetely good in Ulduar tho

One thing I was surprised about with TBC was how fast you felt like having little to do on your main. My nostalgia told me I would be occupied by heroics for most of TBC. But that was over so fast. How do you expect this to be in Wrath?

This is all anecdotal, but I grinded heroics in wrath partly because of the rep tabards. There are some epics from reps but mostly for me it was the mounts, pets, titles, etc. Some of the epic gear in heroics was pretty good, I did Stratholme a lot to get the shield on my prot pally. Then there’s also the badges, which like BC has decent epic rewards, but you could also buy the new Heirlooms with them, which as you can imagine was a big hit and led to a lot of badge farming for those alone. Wasn’t cheap if you wanted to get a set of cloth, leather, etc and the weapons, but IIRC it was just shoulders and chestpiece for armor.

@@snowy4 Yes at the start you'll be grinding your reps, but once you got those done, next dungeon you'll grind for is toc5 every dail for your seals, in case you are a collector. After that, a week of grinding PoS/FoS/HoR for gear (on your alts to get them geared) and after that the only reason to run dungeons will be for Emblems of Frost (EoF) or Triumph (EoT). Frost for your T10 PvE, PvP and Primordial Saronite, your Emblems of Triumph for T9 PvE, PvP and all sorts of things like Gems, Orbs, Heirlooms and whatnot. To cut it short, once your reps are up to max (within 2 weeks of release), you'll run 1 RHC (random heroic) and 1 ToC5hc if you are collecting. Wrath was just like TBC, once you were done raiding for the week, there was no reason to be on your main other than goldfarming and pvp.

The mounting time change and not getting dismounted on water were very significant changes for PVP. Also, as someone who had a mage and a priest when Wrath came out talking about OG Death Knights is pretty triggering, had me clutching my chair's arms.

if I remember correctly, and that is a big if, the response Blizz had to the paratroopers in Wintersgrasp was forcing attackers to be teleported to the attacker camp at the beginning of the battle ground, even if you were already in the zone. I think they also reduced how much siege damage these things did to stuff in Wintersgrasp.

Great video, and ik WOTLK wont feel totally the same this time around due to playerbase, but frankly i'm super excited for it anyway b/c it's just such a great expansion & deserves the reputation it has as the best expansion ever because it's just got so many things that are phenomenal. WOTLK was shit for veteran raiders. Ignoring Ulduar, which was a stellar raid and probably one of the best tiers they've ever made, what did we have? Rehashed Naxxramas, 2 1-boss dragon bossfights (Sarth/Malygos), a room with 5 bosses (TOTGC) and ICC, which had 3 nice fights in it (Professor Putridice 25HC, Blood Queen lanathel 25HC and Lich King 25HC/10HC) that lasted THIRTEEN MONTHS. THIRTEEN MONTHS of content drought between ICC release and the release of Cataclysm (no, Ruby Sanctum doesn't count, fuck that stupid bonus raid with...1 dragon boss in it). WOTLK was the beginning of the end. The only reason it did well and it was remembered so well was because so many new people started playing the game at that point - MORE in fact than the swaths of veteran raiders who QUIT during that same time. Those new players are what we 2004 veterans called "Wrath Babies".

I won't be playing WOTLK classic so here's a free OP build for all you rogues out there. Troll Assassination rogue. Engineering Springs on gloves. Haste potion. Haste Trinkets. Berserking. It's possible to get your base weapon attack speeds down to sub .3 which means during an envenom you can attack 6 times a second during the envenom buff and just melt things with poison procs. enjoy.

You forgot to add that Titans grip warriors will be almost bis from the Start as the only reason why they sucked until Mid wrath was bc TG use to decrease your hit by like 10% ontop of the damage decrease instead of the just base 10% dmg decrease it changed too.

you can see in private servers that use 3.3.5 balancing that warrior (especially fury) is weak in early wrath. for example in Naxx you should see only Arms warrior and even their DPS isn't amazing

Leveling, that 70-80 grind was my fave, yes it took a while, but the story and music was on point. I could actually get emersed into the game and give a shit what's going on. Compared to retail where i just try to blaze through everything trying to hit max level.

I am very curious, how the playerbase will handle achievments this time around. And not just in a "link achievment" way, but the entire mentality around them. I know a lot of people on my server who prepare themselfs for the achievments (collecting pets, mounts you have to farm and all you can already do atm), not because they want those things, but the achievments in wrath. I wonder, how many "the insane" people we will see from day one.
