I'll bet it's a common industry practice and always has been. You can underpay them and if they quite you have a line of people willing to take the same job for even less. it's sick.
@stuartmorley689418 күн бұрын
Hiring modders is very common. What's also common in the games industry is not advertising the pay scale for the job roles (or giving very vague bands and saying "based on experience"). You go in for an interview and you have to have a guide idea of what wage to ask for in advance because they'll happily let you underpay yourself. I think people think that everyone in a particular job grade would be paid roughly the same, give or take a bit for experience, but they'd be surprised. You can easily have two people doing the same thing and one is on a much higher wage for no reason other than they chanced asking for it and it didn't make the interviewers just discount them for asking for too much.

While I agree that Helldivers 2 should have different rules for selling micro transactions for a paid game. At some point though that $40 is going to be eaten up by ongoing development costs and, even more, server costs. They offer them fun work environments, where among colleagues they generate a community, so they no longer have to pay overtime and they exploit them without them realizing it. Mental Power games. Exactly, the tonal shift from 1 onward turned me off of the series. Granted, the OG had zany humor at times but it wasn’t Tiny Tina screeching every 5 minutes or Handsome Jack saying “Butt Stallion” for the 7th time..
@Alloveck17 күн бұрын
Personally, if by "toilet humor" they very specifically mean stupid gross-out humor and poop/fart jokes, like, actual toilet-related material, then I say good riddance. As much as I like pushing the envelope and breaking the rules and saying what should not be said, I've never cared for actual gross-out humor in anything. Not because it's offensive, it's just... dumb. If avoiding toilet humor means taking the edge off in general and more "sensitivity" changes like midgets becoming tinks, on the other hand, then no, that's not a welcome change. So for me it's a matter of exactly what toilet humor means in this context. If it means to them the same thing the phrase means to me, then yeah, good change. If it's instead a matter of toning down ALL edginess and silliness, gross or not, bad change.

7:20 Farming for super credits in Helldivers 2 is actually really easy, if a bit tedious. So you can definitely grind out the cost of those items in a day, as I did. Just search for trivial missions with friends or look for higher level players, they will usually already be doing the method which is: be running around the map getting all the POIs and then return to the ship with the whole squad to skip the cutscene and repeat. This also farms requisition and medals.

I earned those supercredits for that set in Helldivers II just by playing the game. I had enough extra lying around to buy the whole set outright as soon as it dropped. If I had to farm them, it would only take me a few hours. But it's not hard or onerous to farm, because you ALSO get to play a fun game at the same time. That being said, the offer was not ethical because new players had no chance of earning it in the time allowed.

Until we can have fully dynamic raytraced lighting, a CONSISTENT absolute minimum 60 fps, and no easily visibly noticeable LoD or other distance-based changes ever, without cutbacks elsewhere relative to what current graphics achieve otherwise, there's still need for technological improvements if you ask me.
@JetBlastoff-y6h16 күн бұрын
SmelloVision.
@BrianWelch-vc7xy13 күн бұрын
@@Alloveck Yes, but will those technological improvements be possible without taking up all 4TB of your SSD? Seriously though, there's something this video gets wrong. Once dedicated GPUs took over from the graphics accelerators around 25 years ago, everyone could see where the future of 3D rendering was going. If you showed someone who helped design a GTX 260 in 2008 an RTX 4090, they would still understand exactly how the card was built and recognize some of its architecture, and even if they didn't understand RT cores they would still know what they did and probably be able to make educated guesses about their performance. The fabrication process has gotten smaller and more detailed, but what chips do hasn't fundamentally changed in decades. Chip designers could see all of this coming; they knew what their hardware would be capable of at some point. What we have today wouldn't be the least bit surprising or shocking to them. Today? We don't know where we're going to get any big breakthroughs. We don't even know IF there will be another breakthrough, and not just because of a technology barrier. Graphics cards are already running into the problem where incremental upgrades aren't enough to drive profits because those cost far more than the average consumer can afford. Dedicated graphics might actually die in the next 10 years, with advances in APUs driving graphical improvements and shrinking profit margins driving GPU sales towards machine learning models. There's simply no realistic way to compare the advances in graphics architecture of the past 20 years with what's coming down the road.
@Alloveck13 күн бұрын
@@BrianWelch-vc7xy Those are fair points, the obvious and low-hanging fruit of graphical hardware improvements have been worked over pretty well already. Still though, the fact that there aren't expected new innovations we can see right now by no means proves there aren't yet undiscovered innovations out there at all, I'm by no means ready to assume graphics have hit a wall forever. The long game of technology is full of predictions of peaks that were ultimately proven very, very wrong by unanticipated breakthroughs. But with that said, even if were against the wall already and hardware could never get any better than it currently is? My list of what I'd consider satisfactory "we can stop upgrading now" graphical capabilities still stands. Possible or not, that's the goal all the same. And I absolutely don't agree with those who think graphics have already hit the point where they're as good as they need to be.

I do think that gaming tech has reach a place where the improvements are going to be as massive. Not saying there won't be any improvements just that they won't be as big as they were. I honestly think that is a good thing because it would allow a little bit of breathing room for consumers. It just really sucks that things move so quickly and that things are so expensive. I'm stuck on Xbox One and do need to upgrade simply because I'm being left behind but I don't really have the means to get one of the newer systems. The only reason why I even have an Xbox One was because my friend upgraded and gave it to me because the resale was nothing. It would be really nice for systems to reach a place where they can chill for a while and allow the technology to grow to the point where a new console gen is worth it rather than a minor change that doesn't really do anything other than force people to upgrade to make money.

I think bethesda should just build a new creation engine from the ground up, taking some things with it but updating and making it better then even creation engine 2 is, especially keeping with modablility. While i see the argument that they could switch engines to unreal, i think its a bad take that every game dev studio should just switch to unreal as if its the prefect engine with no flaws for game development. Also, creating l monopolies like that is bad for competition and fostering improvement. Again creation engine isnt great but its more about bethesda's game design and quest design needing an overhaul then the engine. If starfield was less boring, had more stuff to done/explore, was fun, etc, no one would mention the engine other than in passing like usual

Oh, and if modders fix something in the game/engine, then bethesda really just needs to patch that in officially. Would solve the whole "modders fixed engine problem X back in skyrim or fallout why is it still a problem" thing that happens all the time at launch

My boyfriend earned the super credits for Helldivers. He's unlocked everything in every season pass. He also has no life, but he's happy with his free Killzone armour.

10:48 Bethesda wants to keep using the Creation Engine because: a.) they've sunk a lot of money into it and getting rid of it would probably have an impact on their financial statements since they would have to write-down the value they were carrying for the engine (probably a rounding error now for Microsoft after its acquisition); b.) they don't want to pay the license fees to Unreal and retrain/hire new staff to be proficient in it. In short, it's all about money.

I don’t see a problem with that South Korean guy using breaks to step back and focus on something else for a few minutes. A little refresh can help focus the mind.

Merry Christmas and FYI sometime in the early 1900s the guy who ran the US patent office suggested that they should close the office because everything had already been invented. Kind of similar to your last item in the sense that he was obviously wrong back then and the same can be said with consoles That being said, the differences between generations is becoming less and less each time.

The question I want to know is: do we NEED more powerful hardware? Sure, we can probably do more upgrades to improve frame rate and such, but if I recall, some companies are complaining that it's too expensive to keep improving graphics. And honestly, I'd rather them focus on storytelling and mechanics than graphics, and I don't think those need more powerful hardware right now.
