No one ever heard a voice like his. Bobby was a 'counter-tenor, with a natural high range that a lot of Sopranos could not reach. Though he died at the age of 63, he left a legacy of beautiful music and his angelic voice, such as we will never hear again. I call this "Bobby's Song" because no one could ever come up to his standard.

77 here. In this song's era debut these fellows did break the typical ethnic singing styles of that era. Unknown to all modern singers and critics an earlier singer/songwriter/pianist/actor, Hoagy Carmichael, sang many (then termed Race) songs from the black culture, but with a white style popular then. Other white popular white singers also did the same. The great Paul Robeson reversed the stereotypes and created a new style for singers.

This is one of the best reactions I’ve seen of a standard classic that set the bar for others to follow and improve on. Aren’t you happy to be in an era where the internet can reveal amazing talent just waiting to be ‘discovered’ by others for our release n pleasure. “To the sea, to the sea to the OPEN ARMS of the sea…..” Remember that many, in 65, left and went overseas with a doubtful aspiration of coming home…..”wait for me…” “Oh my love, my darling….” “I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again..” “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..”

@@DavidSmith-kn7ef That’s the version my Dad knows and loves. I got him to listen to the Righteous Brother’s version about a year or so ago, and he likes it, but his emotions are attached to the 1955 version - which he then introduced me to. He already had 5 of us kids (ended up being 8 of us) by the time the Righteous Brother’s version came out, so he didn’t have much time to listen to the radio by that point. Come to think of it, there is another reason he wasn’t familar with this version: I remember us having cars without radios when I was very young, as Dad thought it provided a dangerous distraction while driving back at that time. By the mid 70s he relented, which we were all happy about.

Our parents enjoyed it too. It's comfort music for me today. I'm so pleased to see the younger generations on KZbin who are rediscovering and appreciiatig the music

IMO, the most romantic song ever! One thing I sort of miss from those days is the sense of respect. Performers "dressed up" for their audience, and the audience was respectful in terms of allowing them to perform without a lot of shouting and other noise...saving their applause and cheering for the end.

A girlfriend of mine was dating a young Marine & the two of them listened to almost nothing but the Righteous Bothers, so my Navy boyfriend & knew all their songs too.😄 Very sweet memories to accompany a very sweet song & artist. I've seen it said that he was nervous on this show b/c his parents were in the audience. Dude was nervous and belted out THE perfect song. from wiki: "Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers' version in July 1965, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version. The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when featured in the film in 1990. In 2004, it was number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema. " I don't know that I have ever heard one of the other versions ever. Mr. Hatfield killed it, and nothing else is going to ever replace it.

I love how these older songs were also recorded in single takes, as they didn't have the cut and paste of digital back then. Post Modern Jukebox actually uses that style of recording when they put their arrangements together. And Maggie, never worry about being "extra" it's part of why we all love you! ⛓
@ERDan624 жыл бұрын
And also, for its age the clarity in this recording. WOW!!!
@thomasarussellsr4 жыл бұрын
No, they didn't have digital cut and paste, but they did have litteral cut the recording tape and tape it back together with a film tape. Partly where the term cut and paste came from. Mostly from cutting pictures with scissors and pasting them into other media collage style. Old school of what we do on computers now. But recordings were cut and spliced long before digital recording was a thing. After vinyl albums only, but before digital, we had this thing that overlapped both called tape recording. Both reel to reel and cassette styles. Recording booths used reels as did videography. You litteraly cut out the parts you didn't like and taped the recording tape/film back together.
@nathanscatts99764 жыл бұрын
@@thomasarussellsr Yes they did have some sound engineers skilled in the splicing techniques, however if I recall correctly they still tended to favor single takes during the earlier use of using tape media. Remembering that the Righteous Brothers as a duo started their recording career in 1962, and the early 4 track recorders weren't in use until 1964. I would hazard a guess and suggest that many of the smaller labels (such as the first one the duo were signed to) would not have had too many sound engineers, much less ones skilled enough to skillfully splice tapes to commercial quality. I'm more then happy to be proven wrong though, as that way all reading learn more!
