You're right when you say that most people don't have a great need for this type of plier, but if you work with hundreds upon hundreds of screws like I do in aviation, where we have a multitude of panels on aircraft that have loads of screws which oftentimes get previously. Molested by people that have worked on the aircraft before it reaches us, this type of tool is unbelievably valuable.

I am using the knipex twingrip screw extraction tool and is very durable and the cobra style is just fantastic. I used the engineer PZ 59 screw extractor but the knipex is just better for me with the adjustable joint for larger screws

Yeah, I was surprised Doc didn't bring it out for this. They are a very versatile plier on top of the great screw extraction

@@mbk337 Great tools, I both handle versions. One with the VDE insulated handles would be great, or a mini version in the future. I have the xs version of the cobra and the pliers wrench and they are great.

@@fuloplehel agreed, I would pay a pretty penny for an XS model of the Twingrips. Hell, even a 150/6" version would be great.

I have the full compliment of Vampliers/Engineers but if these were around when I was buying them I would have got these. As you said, it’s a limited use item so good enough is good enough. (Unless you are constantly dealing with stripped out screws)

I have a couple of pairs of the Vampliers and they work well; however, I find myself reaching for my Knipex Twingrips more often. I only wished they made a smaller version. They would be the perfect compliment to the XS Cobras and Pliers Wrenches.

I have a pair of VAMPLIERS 8" PRO Linesman Screw Extraction Pliers which I bought in 2019 because at the time I had a need for them. They worked very well. I have not used them since, not sure where they are, but was sure happy to have them in hand at the time.

I find the Engineer pliers, though grabby, are a bit soft; they wear out pretty quickly (at least for me). So I decided to take some decent, but not Knipex, pliers, and using a Dremel tool, cut teeth into them. I did this with some Lowe's budget needle-nose pliers, some Irwin slip-joint pliers, and with a pair of needle-nose Vice-Grips. They all work great; if not as well as the Engineer pliers, then close (especially the Vice-Grips), and the jaws aren't as soft.

Surprised you didn't pull out your Twin Grips to show the gold standard :)

you know the bent needle nose pliers or the right angle snap ring pliers? you don't have as much trouble with the prying because there isn't a taper to the grabbing surface. i wish they made other pliers with that idea in mind. bent nosed pliers for screw extracting migh be a very good idea.

It’s been very interesting over the past decade to watch major innovations in hand tools emerge, an area that had seen little innovation in many years. One of the things I enjoy about this channel is that many, many new tools are reviewed. Most interesting, and consistent with many emerging technologies, is that we first see companies like Snap-on®, Knipex, and Engineer (Vampliers) make a real breakthrough innovation, but within a few years those ideas get expressed, or alternately stolen, by lower cost manufacturers. I think it ultimately happens in every unprotected market. The good news is good tools - maybe not excellent - come into the reach of everyone.

Most of those "innovations " are old inventions brought BACK into the industry.. the Vampliers are actually "stove pliers " or "gas line pliers " from the 1930's..🤔

@@boosted2.4_sky That’s interesting, and I agree - the engineering in hand tools from 1890-1940 is impressive. I restore a lot of tools from that era. We build on the foundations of our forefathers for sure. Nonetheless, in general there has been a lot of innovation over the past decade.
