Ugh, censorship. I remember when Disney pulled that BS with the digital version of The French Connection. Having a censored version of a movie on physical is arguably worse. Shame on Scream for not informing customers.

I own Riddick on bluray which I found at a thrift shop, great condition with slipcover for 3 bucks, plus digital copy. I'm sure that scene is there and that's absolute bullsh*t with the new release. Tired of this new PC censorship for any and all media and even more irritated by shill director's without the backbone to stand up for their work.... just goes to show they don't think much of it. Pathetic.

As much as i like arrow and all these companies i do feel at times you dont get enough for the price you pay for example. Trick or treat. I think they could have added a few more movie memorabilia maybe a few guitar picks. And such which could have easily been done with no real trouble

Sony distributes all Disney physical releases now. I wonder if the licensing agreement between Disney/Sony was so high in order to help Disney recoup their giant boxoffice losses that Sony in return is hiking prices of these releases to bring a return on that investment.

I agree with the greening of Twister but the movie itself and especially the audio is outstanding! This is the kind of movie atmos was made for. It's about as close as you'll want to having a Cat5 hurra in your living room. Me and my neighbors loved it.

They did the same thing with Inside Out 2, which didn't have any other option for 4k if I remember correctly and they did it with Alien Romulus which really made me angry to the point where I'm just not buying Disney stuff.

LOL NO...no it is not... if it is digitally shot and new, yes you can do that...if they are changing the aspect ratio of an old film, it has to be altered in each frame during the restoration...you should check out my whole video I did in the editing program explaining encodes...Ive edited films for over 20yrs

In this list, I am glad The Thing is not number 1! I have an extra boot aimed at Shout for not telling that Silent Night, Deadly Night 4k is region protected. They are playing ugly and so will be paying ugly. I do not have mine yet, but if it is unplayable thats about 50 bucks or more in the ditch. Will update on that. Is it just me, or is it getting hard to find just the "regular" 4ks .. Examples.. Drive, and Taxi Driver 4k, I'm ending up forced to buy the expensive steelbooks. I really don't care about steelbooks. And yeah just pricing in general seems to be getting nuts. At least after this last holiday season ended.

I hate to say it because I love Second Sight and equally dislike having to put down just about *anything* (my letterboxd is almost nothing but 4 & 5 stars as a result 😂) but my God I could not agree more about You’re Next 😩 both the film and the quality. Undoubtedly it’s the best it’ll ever look, and Second Sight did all that could be done with the source material, but man, on all fronts, that aforementioned source material was just… lacking. I’m sure I would’ve liked it more if it wasn’t hyped so high, but I just don’t get what was supposed to be so over the top fantastic about it!

Regarding The Strangers, the reasons you mentioned are why Second Sight released this just as Blu-Ray. Because the source just doesn't lend itself to a higher fidelity format.

Im a casual movie collector, so forgive me if im saying something dumb, but what about all the sketchy AI 4K upscales? i saw alotta people angry with Jaws and i think Terminator 2 for having bad AI upscaling. i thought for sure those would be on here. for the actual video, i really cant believe how expensive the DP 3 steel book was lol, were turning movies into collectibles! like the novelty of owning the movie is cooler than the damn movie itself. great video! happy new year!

Hey thank you and Happy new year! T2 wasn't released this year so that one wouldn't be on the list and the problems with it came more from using the 3d camera negative than AI... I did a whole video on Jaws 3 and it didn't really disappoint me because I knew the elements that they had to work with and how it was shot...I wasn't overly concerned with a few cumulative seconds of background AI upscaling....I'd encourage you to check out that video where I went into detail on it! The DP3 steelbook prices were out of control for sure! We can't let that be the norm for standard steelbook releases!

Unless you have a tv over 60 inch you ain t going to see much difference between blu ray and 4 k.

that is actually overblown...it the pixel density increase is pretty evident starting at 40 inches but distance from the tv plays in as well...if you are closer to the tv, the difference will be visible at smaller screen sizes...viewing angle plays in too... 4ks shine when you go bigger for sure because they maintain that quality over a bigger area but you can still see the difference on smaller screens...

@AVAPopCulture I did a demo on planet earth 3 4k on a 55 inch LG and the picture was stunning , it was only when I took the disc out I realised it was the blu ray I'd put in not the 4k as they both come in the same cover . So I then popped the 4k in and to my amazement there was virtually no difference.

FYI, the UK release of Twister was better. It was re-encoded on a BD100 with a higher bit rate and added Dolby Vision. The reason I picked up that limited edition instead of the US release.

All players and TVs upscale. Otherwise you would have a black frame around your 1080p content on your 4K TV. It is very important to have the correct tvsize/viewingdistance ratio.

The UK Limited Edition is another option, Universal handled that release and they had it put on a 100gb disc just like Turbine's and both releases have Dolby Vison / Atmos with that as an option you're basically going to be splitting hairs on which of the two is better.

I'm glad I didn't pick up Riddick, It just seemed odd to me that Arrow would get to put out Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick but not Riddick and then Scream Factory was releasing Riddick within a month or so of Arrow's release. It just didn't sit right with me cause I thought Arrow would've gotten Riddick so we would have a single release and possibly a big box 3 pack with all three movies and some goodies that normally go with there sets like that. Now I'm not sure if I would trust an Arrow release of it unless they said that the censorship was removed at least for the theatrical version for there release.

Upscale from 4K to what? What are you talking about? Get the term right, you're talking about tone mapping from scratch to push into HDR, that's done from the disc authoring stage, the TV doesn't upscale 4K to 4K. The TV can't make an SDR disc magically into HDR, neither does the bluray player. People look to you for information, at least get the terms right.

@azv343 I'm talking about when you use bluray players that do this smart guy: "4K Upscaling (Not Native 4K): Enhance your viewing experience by upscaling standard Blu-ray discs and DV to near 4k" And then you add that with the enhancement properties of the TV you close the gap on the actual 4k, especially when it is a 4k scan on the bluray... So instead of rushing to run your mouth and try to play a gotcha game, maybe learn what you are talking about first...nobody said you can make SDR into HDR...maybe actually listen? Censoring isnt a new thing. Sam raimi. Did it to evil dead 2 when it got released to video he removed more then what they did to riddick he says he didnt do it after the fact but i saw evil dead 2 in the theaters unrated and the footage that was taken out was in the movie when i saw it. Thats why i thought when i saw evil dead 2 on vhs. I was like wow this is missing footage I wish raimi would give us an uncut version

I agree, censoring is nothing new but I swear it's all over the place now. That's why I'm finally starting to invest in physical media. I'm not going to buy every movie but I do want things I think are special like Horror, Westerns, Sci-fi and Fantasy, pre Hays Code movies and some of the Roger Corman movies. Those are my categories I'll be investing in. I come from a place of Dark Comedy and Action/Thrillers, and Thriller/Dramas, but I don't think I would actually invest in too many of them outside of maybe a dozen of my favorites. But yes, censoring has been around for a long time, but I'd say in the last 6 years or so it's really gone wild. The self-righteousness of PC eventually caves in on itself. I think that's where we are now.

Agree that green was very hard, but i really enjoyed the 4k version. Elvira i didn't own on any format so i was fine with the 4k version. Twisters yes the sound is lacking for sure even on Atmos only downside of the movie but still really good. Terrifier 3 i can understand your point, but it's surely one of my top movies of this year just behind Godzilla Minus 1 2023 release.

I am a big proponent of buying the 4k version if you don't have the mkvie at all or if you only have the DVD so picking up elvira on 4k is a no-brainer for sure if you don't have it...I just happened to have just bought the bluray a couple months earlier...mostly though? I am in a good position because I never bought a ton of bluray only releases so, most everything that comes out on 4k, I only have on a dvd! Godzilla minus 1 is a stunning looking 4k

I really struggle to see the difference between Blu Ray and 4k. I have an LG Oled tv and Panasonic 4k player, and I can't really tell the difference at all. The jump between dvd and blu ray is huge, and justifies the upgrade. The blu ray to 4k jump is minimal. I think its crazy to upgrade from blu ray to 4k. Just spend the money on a movie you don't own.

I can't think of a movie in existence that I would pay $50 for a physical copy of. 90% of the discs I purchase are used and set me back $5 or less (granted, not 4K). I paid nearly $20 for The Thing and Scarface 4K releases because they're two of my all time favorite movies, but $15 is typically my limit for 4K discs.

For you to be able to give a credible review on the audio, you need to invest and upgrade your sound system to Dolby Atmos/DTS:X. It's impossible review the audio accurately without the proper audio equipment, that's encoded on the disc. You've got the video, but not the audio! To review 4K/Blu-ray movies, you can't half step. Dolby Atmos receivers have come down in price considerably, and they are affordable now.

@@AVAPopCulture The majority of the 4K releases have Dolby Atmos and besides, it's 2-4 extra speakers for home theater. There's more to Dolby Atmos than just the overhead speakers, it's the overall sonic presentation. Being a filmmaker has got nothing to do with it. If it was Steven Spielberg or George Lucas, I would say the same thing! To give credible audio reviews on 4K/Blu-ray releases, the reviewer should have the proper equipment to do it. The audio presentation of a movie is just as important as the video, (if not even more so) because the soundtrack intensifies the movie significantly.

I would be irate if I bought a movie only to find out the director decided to be woke and cut something that was in the movie back in the day. I hate that crap. there are 2 versions of Twister🌪 4k ....i got the box set one from Zavvi. My biggest disappointment is DP vs Wolverine.....what a overhyped $$$ piece garbage 🗑. Atmos was immersive though not demo worthy or as good as Sonic Hedgehog 😂....yes i compared the two and Sonic Atmod wins easy ☄

I agree completely on the retroactive censorship of Riddick.....and, undocumented to boot. How pathetic. How spineless. I remember listening to Twohy's commentary on Pitch'.....he seemed like a stand-up guy. I won't be buying this one. I wonder, will the crew on Twohy's 'Riddick: Furya' be all DEI hires??? 😆😆

Today I was out in the wild I did a little tape buying a few DVDs and a few Blu-rays I'm not into 4K discs give me the overpriced and a waste of time because guess what there are so many movies that are out there on DVD that will never ever see the light of a Blu-ray that's why I stay with my DVDs once in awhile a while from Blu-rays

You can't take points from a transfer because of the way the film is shot.Fincher's films have a certain look to them.Is panic room and or seven gonna be disappointing ? You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I agree with you about the films being sold to us censored.We aught to be told.Kino sold us the MPAA cut version of Dressed to kill on 4k.There are instances of dirty dialog cut and a few other things.The criterion 4k scan version on blu ray is uncut.I have tried to tell you assholes with platforms but no one is looking into it.

@@Norlistapes7 I've bought the Kino Lorber's 4K of Dressed to Kill but haven't watched it yet. Maybe the missing dialogue that you're referring to is in the R-rated version, which was the theatrical release. I can't see any reason why KL would censor any of the dialogue in the movie, if it's the unrated version. Besides, a movie distributor doesn't have the authorization, and cannot edit their movies, without the filmmaker's consent. That would be copyright infringement! Only Brian DePalma (the director) can make modifications to his films, not the distributor. Kino Lorber's movies are the exact versions, the way they've been given to them to be remastered in 4K from the studio.
