It's one thing to have a heel comentator like JBL, Wade Barrett or Corey Graves, but to have one of your lead announcers be this insufferable prick day-in and day-out on television (as he was on RAW, SmackDown and the reality version of NXT) is just too much for fans to bear. And bringing up Lawler's deceased mother in the fold really gave "Eddie's in hell" vibes. And it took a near death experience to Lawler on live episode on RAW (over a year and a half after that feud statred) for WWE's writing staff to right all wrongs and end the heel Michael Cole experiment (as he was clearly worried that his friend in real life may not survive)

I’ve always believed that the feud could’ve worked if it started at Elimination Chamber and ended at Mania. Let Cole cost Jerry the Ladder match, and have Jerry squash him at Mania. There was a bit more story to the Corre’s match, short as it was. Gabriel and Slater had beaten Santino and Kozlov for the Tag Team championships back in December, and the Corre jumped Kozlov at Axxess to write him out. Kofi subbed in because Barrett had just beaten him for the IC title on a March episode of SmackDown. Everyone involved had a reason for being there, it was just so short that the story became irrelevant.

I swear The Corre was way better than the New Nexus
@gabepollock1641 Жыл бұрын
@@VincentMI9Hard agree. Corre kept the standouts of the OG Nexus lineup (sans Daniel Bryan). Barrett was a solid heel in-ring and on the stick, and Gabriel + Slater had great tag team chemistry. @@gabepollock1641 Plus, The Corre won a major singles Championship with Barrett as Intercontinental Champion. And they had more success in a short time span.
@gabepollock1641 Жыл бұрын
@@dylanogg347 That’s true too. The Corre’s biggest short coming is that they were split so soon. Ezekiel Jackson’s face run didn’t work out, and Gabriel and Slater’s tag split took them both away from being treated as threats (though Slater maintained much more of a presence on TV).
@dylanogg347 Жыл бұрын
@@gabepollock1641 At the very least, Gabriel or Slater should've beaten Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship. Gabriel was one of the final three in the first season of NXT; getting pinned by Barrett in the last match. Plus, he'd already gotten heat on Barrett by eliminating him in a #1 Contender's Battle Royal (I think it was to decide who would face Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules). Slater was a likeable goof, and if he took the belt off Barrett at Capitol Punishment, at least the USA chants would have made sense. Plus, Slater finished fourth overall in NXT, so he was just right behind Gabriel, who finished third. Either way, Barrett would have dropped the belt to another former Nexus member who would have been there since day one, so there is a nice thematic ending.

Hard agree. I’ve always said the mistake wasn’t the angle but the match. I thought it did a very commendable job working as WWE's "final" match for Nash, I've always felt Hunter did a phenomenal job carrying him (especially for being his first year as a part-time talent), even outclassed their 2003 rivalry (where their only really good match out of three was in England).
@diegooliveira8696 Жыл бұрын
To be honest, the main problem was not the match himself. The problem was that WWE at the time hade so much good options about Nash return. Some rumors says that Nash would be a leader of a stable with superstars who were dissatisfied with Triple H run as chief of the company (The Miz,R truth, Chritians,Rhodes...). And that would leave in Survivor Series match with the control of the company on the line. That would be amazing. But they had that match at TLC match to end Nash´s run.
