We got RVD between contracts. It was a snap decision. We knew he’d probably sign with TNA, but we wanted to slide him in. Fortunately, WWE approved his appearance - maybe because we kept his appearance pretty subtle, though he did have lines in RTWM (I directed that recording).

2K14, they had a legitimate excuse. They were doing 30 years of WrestleMainia, the most iconic matches from WrestleMainia 1 all the way to 29, It's a WrestleMainia time machine, in mine and most others opinions, no matter what he was doing or who he was wrestling for at the time, WWE and 2K had no choice but to include Hogan.

Nobody has ever commented on that at all. I’ve wondered that for a long time too. Kinda points to the Vince Russo 2.0 theory of WWE sending Hogan and Eric B over to Orlando to screw things up. How’d they get him in a WWE game when he was signed to TNA? I get it he probably had a clause in his contract allowing that but still. Most TNA wrestlers don’t get offers for wrestling games except Hogan and maybe Sting.

Battlegrounds adding sting was odd but sting had already signed the contract to add his likeness into the game while it was still in development ( before he joined AEW ) so they said well we already paid him and we got his Ok to add his likeness so let's go ahead and add him in as DLC I think he came as a free unlocked character tho hell most of battlegrounds roster was already planned for release while they was still employed so they came regardless if they was under contract or not

Not to mention Hogan owns his likeness and trademarks (unlike most wrestlers in that their gimmicks are owned by WWE). Hogan can license his likeness to whomever he wants. Perhaps RVD also owns his likeness and gimmick as well. Plausible since he has licensed his likeness for comic books that have nothing to do with whatever promotion he was wrestling for. It’s actually quite rare for a wrestler to own his gimmick, especially in the wwe. It’s the reason why when a wrestler jumps ship to anther promotion, they usually change their name and gimmick.

I don’t know if Ken Shamrock should really count since he’s not technically in either of those games. At least as much as someone isn’t in a Fire Pro game. A better example would be Toukon Retsuden 3 for PSX that came out in 1998. It has Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Scott Norton, Eddy Guerrero, and Chris Benoit, all off which were in WCW at the time.

There was a lot of roster mistake on battlegrounds The AOP, Brock Lesnar,Curtis Axel,Rowan,Gallows & Anderson were all included despite they were all not under contract

If I had to come up with a reason, I'd say that when I had a programming class, sometimes removing a whole line of code and testing to make sure it worked can sometimes conflict with the rest of the program if you suddenly delete something even if that code can be disected from the rest of the program. Programming can be a very fickle thing sometimes. Sometimes a slight alteration to a code will cause it to work as intended, I've experienced the reverse as well, a slight alteration has sometimes caused the whole program I made to not work the way I intended it too. And my codes were very basic, they weren't anything complicated it was just an intro to programming logic, it wasn't a full on programming class.

WCW vs The World/Virtual Pro Wrestling: Taka Michinoku and Road Warrior Hawk (with a rather unfortunate name) both in WWF at the time; Vader (VPW only; replaced by Dynamite Kid in WCW vs The World) in the WWF at the time. Jeff Jarrett (Wcw vs The World unlockable only): Was back in the WWF by the time the game got released on Europe in December '97, also when WWF Wrestlemania 2000 released in North America (October 31st 1999) and Japan (September 15, 2000) Jarrett had already quit WWF and returned to WCW, also Jarrett's model is available to use in the SD!2 caw mode, when he was already in WCW for around a year by then, same thing with Goldust). VPW 64: The Road Warriors and Vader were featured despite being in the WWF at the Time. Kurt Angle SvR 07 - Had already debuted for TNA when the game released in November '06.

They probably included RVD in SD vs Raw 2011 because of his one night only appearance the year before the game out at the 2009 Royal Rumble. The game came in late in 2010 so they probably had some sort of deal with him before he went to TNA.
