Fun bit about my life involving the Deadpool video game. I was playing Deadpool the game, my gf was helping me try 100% it. We took a break to do what couples do but in the heat of the moment.... We heard knocking on the glass, we paused and looked at the window but realize it came from the TV screen. Deadpool asks “Do you have any girls in there?” We both died at that moment, was too real 😂

Fun fact: The FF8 fight Jules was trying to remember was actually against Seifer and is one of the most badass moments I've ever seen in an RPG where he just stares down Odin charging him and just slices him in two, VERTICALLY, as Odin's split halves sail pass him and just some taiko drums play off some random blood red Japanese kanji appearing. Was such an amazing lil scene.

Gilgamesh didn't cut through Odin...that was Seifer. Greg caught Odin's sword, dropped down at a later point in the battle, and made short work of Seifer. from that point on, Greg would show up at random points in battles and choose a random sword to either one-shot the enemy, or deal dmg of varying degree to them.

I can't believe MGS battle against Psycho Mantis isn't here. Having to plug the controller to another port in order to make it function and also "reading your mind" through your memory card was SUCH an impactful moment for me...

One of the earliest times I saw a video game break the 4th wall was in 1992. Ultima VII: The Black Gate. The game opened up with a standard intro screen into the game, showing off some graphics and the name. Then the screen flickered and got filled with static, and the Guardian's (the antagonist) face appeared through the static and talked to you. It was also one of the first video games with digitized audio, so it was a shock to hear his voice boom out of your speaker. I literally almost fell out of my chair. Throughout the game, the Guardian would also talk to you as the player. If someone in your party died, he'd laugh. It blurred the line between the game world and your world and was one of the most amazing experiences at the time.

One of my favorite fourth wall breaks comes from the first boss in Death Stranding, when Higgs asks if you're getting tired of the grind. "Isn't this what you've been waiting for?" Up until that point, there hadn't been any major battles, so even though Higgs was talking to Sam, it was almost like he was talking to the player.

What about Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass? I was trying to figure out how to get the symbol from the wall onto my map for close to a fricking HOUR, then my mum called me for tea and I closed my DS over, thinking I'll figure this out later. Then came back later to find that was the answer. I was like WTF?!

One of my all time favorite wtf 4th wall breaks was in Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. At the end of the Paris level, if the security guard died Lambert berates Sam for it and Sam responds by saying “Ok then I won’t kill him next time.” Just such a blindside.

For me, the mind-melting fourth wall break in Doki Doki Literature Club where Monika reveals she's in love with you, not the player character you've been playing as, but YOU, the actual person playing the game, should have been on this list. She develops sentience and figures out she's a video game character, but as she's programmed to love the player, she makes the jump to being obsessed with you, the real person outside the screen. She'll even read your computer information and call you by your real name (or whatever you've written there). It's a crazy game!

Deadly Premonition. The character you play talks to you, the player, the whole game. He's an agent, so he goes over his theories, music tastes, personal insights, etc. Then at the end of the game, you find out it's not even you he's been talking to, but his other personality that went dormant during a traumatic event as a child. WTH!! We've bonded over music, and find out it wasn't even you he was talking to. You were the 3rd wheel and didn't even know it.

Metal Gear Solid, especially the first one. When your whole team (and even some enemies) give you instructions on how to beat the game "press the action button to withstand torture" or "put the controller in port 2" or "call me to save your game". They all stay in character, in the story/setting while simultaneously breaking the fourth wall

One of my favorite is from Secret of Evermore. There's a doomsayer in the market place in the Greco-Roman area that talks about the end being near.
