Johnny Gargano really feels like one of those talents that suffered once Vince McMahon regained power following the Endeveour deal. He made his WWE return last August & was consistently featured on tv from August of last year up until April feuding with guys like Theory Alpha Academy The Miz & Grayson Waller. Even been put it into the big PLE & spotlighted in then like The US Championship elimination chamber. At one point this year Johnny Gargano was appearing on WWE competing on RAW NXT & SmackDown. Unfortunately Vince return fucked everything up. There were big plans for the Way which reportedly got dropped& then there were big plans for DIY that got put on hold. I don’t think it’s a case of Hunter & WWE not wanting to use him & push I just think it’s a case of Vince being back changing his mind & interfering in creative as Vince role gives him final say in creative

They feuded him with Theory he won that feud. Feuded him & KO with Alpha Academy won that feud. Yes he lost to Omas which was stupid but that was during The Miz feud & Omas at the time was beating big names like AJ & Riddle. He won The Miz feud. Suffered a shoulder injury in December came back at Rumble was placed in The US Title Elimination Chamber & feuded with Waller around WrestleMania time winning the feud at NXT Stand & Deliver. If you look at Johnny win/loss record during that time period he won most of his matches. They got him involved in the Miz Lunis & Cianpa feud unfortunately one week after he got involved Ciampa got hurt & im guessing we were suppose to originally get the DIY run there. Then it was teased after Mania & Vince reportedly put it on hold

They should straight up DIY it again. Have them get the tag belts or have Gargano get the IC belt with Ciampa in his corner and then Ciampa betrays him again and they feud. Anything serious with Johnny and Ciampa instead of this Vince random-then-dropped garbage.

I’d love to see it happening & it’s clear Hunter wants to do it. There were big plans for the Way that reportedly got dropped by Vince& then there were big plans for DIY that Vince put on hold. Unfortunately for Cianpa & Gargano Vince role gives him final say over creative. So even though Triple H is head of creative & in theory he should have final say creative unfortunately Vince role as executive chairman allows him to make any changes that he wants & that’s why we’ve seen stories either be dropped or put on hold. Gunther is imo one of the best heel champions. I feel like it's rare there's heels who defend their championships many times without the need of assistance from any running buddies of theirs or other cheating tactics. He's gotta be 1 of a kind. Surely, right?

I definitely don't want him to dethrone Gunther, but if The Miz at some point in the future holds the belt one more time for about a month, then he'll have the (joint) most reigns and the longest combined days as champion. I feel like that would be a good and easy way to make a new record that's likely to stand for decades, and put a record on a guy who definitely won't show up elsewhere and so WWE can keep talking about him forever. Plus, it'd be a great reward for an incredibly loyal worker and brand ambassador.

Presuming the plan is to spin plates until Survivor Series, and then bring Gable back into the picture after Gunther passes 500 days (love a big round number like that for him), Miz being the guy who cheats to take the belt off of Gable, let's just say at Backlash, then losing the belt to someone else on this list, either Jey if they haven't gotten him back into a feud with Roman after Mania, or Sheamus (since this is after Mania, they could have a draft intervening and bring the Brutes to Raw to facilitate) would seem a logical path.

I think a story where Jey gets the IC title, and then before Mania loses it because of Bloodline/Jimmy to heat up their Mania match makes perfect sense. I would do Rock/Jey vs Roman/Jimmy before Mania to really boost a Smackdown rating number and Jey can do 90% of the work and Jimmy can take the pin from Rock.

Id probably say in a storywise standpoint, sheamus is my pick to finally dethrone gunther after failing two attempts and finally conquering the ring general at a third attempt In my personal bias, i wanna see either tyler bate (who failed to capture the UK title from him and finally beat the goliath) or pete dunne/butch (the one who lost to gunther for the nxt uk title which started his long run with it, also finally defeating the goliath for payback of taking the UK title from him)

With all due respect to the likes of Sami Zayn, I want to see someone who's never held the IC Title be the one to dethrone Gunther, rather than it just being an additional reign for someone who's already reached/surpassed that level. Likewise I get the idea of former World Champions holding secondary titles to raise their prestige, it isn't needed with the reign Gunther's had and it just doesn't sit well with me and feels more like a consolation prize/something to do while the main event picture is occupied. We've gone through too many instances of having an unbeatable heel built up (Bray Wyatt, Rusev etc.) only to fall once they get to John Cena et al. I'd rather they go with building someone else up as a wily underdog who finally overcomes the monster than throwing it away on someone who's already an established main eventer and doesn't need the rub.

I’d go for ilja for the main reason being (this is going to sound a bit harsh) gable isn’t on ilja or Gunther’s level. Gunther is in my opinion the greatest to ever hold the belt and to be beaten by a person who’s good, but he isn’t a match of the year contender. Ilja would do his main roster entrance and immediately get the respect he deserves by dethroning Gunther. This leaves ilja rocket shipped into a credible main card wrestler who will put on the same quality matches as Walter/gunther

Realistically, Chad Gable is the only one on this list that would be close to defeating Gunther. Yes, there are wrestlers on this list that one could see beating Gunther because they have the talent and skill to do it, but they would just be out of nowhere and not make sense or they'd have to pause feuds they are currently in to go after the title. And thats talking about doing it now. Yes, maybe guys like Gargano or Ciampa were the right guy to do it, but they haven't been on TV in a while and would need to be built up... somebody like Drew or Bobby would need to be given a reason and motivation to go after the IC title other than just for the sake of "it would be a good match to see" and then for a guy like LA Knight he doesn't really need a title unless it was to have a battle of wits with somebody and then end up taking them down a peg (Austin Theory would have been good for that).

OK, how about this: Gunther gets arrogant,goes after & wins the US Title, starting an Imperium wins all the marbles plan. Mania 40, we get a Mania 39 rematch, only this time it's a 3-way-dance for the 2 titles a la WM 2000. Drew pins Sheamus to win the US Title, making him a Grand Slam chsmpion; Sheamus pins Drew for the IC Title for the Grand Slam & as karma for costing him last year; Gunther loses his title without being pinned, giving him the Angle rub & keeping him looking nigh-unstoppable. Mostly I just really want Drew & Sheamus to get their grand Slams & to keep Gunther looking strong. This seems an elegant way to do both stories.

He's not stale, if anything he isn't only elevated the IC Championship but he's doing himself and Imperium as a whole well. He also has literally tons of wrestlers to wrestle. Mainly Brock Lesnar who never won the IC Championship who would continue to elevate the championship especially if done right. I really hope Edge isn't retired so leading up ( or if he beats Lesnar after ) can wrestle, Cena, who I don't think won the IC Championship either... the problem i see is that whoever the next wrestlers hold the ic title will be compare and judge heavily to gunther.
