I'm surprised Hogan didn't make up some excuse about how, if you account for time zones differences due to how he travelled between japan and the USA 400 days a year, he actually came up with the gimmick first and also, he met Billy Graham just before he died and Graham said he considered him a son, a father and a brother and viewed him as the worthy successor to the gimmick.
@paulrogers4852
@paulrogers4852 2 ай бұрын
Considering that Billy Graham was only 8 years older than Hogan and only started wrestling when Hulk was 19, I doubt the validity of Terry telling his dad that he wanted to be like Graham. Hogan has said the same thing about Dusty Rhodes. Meanwhile, Dusty didn't wrestle anywhere near where Hogan would have seen him wrestle until Hogan was 16 or 17.

I remember Tiger Ali very well. Particularly the one where he offered money to anyone that could swallow a big sausage whole. I remember thinking “what, are they trying to end someone?” Then he called a lady in the ring who easily put the whole thing in her throat, and pulled it back out. Then Godfather came out, claiming the lady was one of his, and therefore he was owed money. What a segment that was 😂

That Valhalla one is genuinely tricky, as I think Max the Impaler had their look inspired by Imperator Furiosa from "Fury Road," who's look was based HEAVILY on Viking warrior garb and war paint. So this one of the rare times it genuinely COULD just be parallel inspirations looking very similar.

I mean haven't we known this for decades? It is one of the most well known wrestling tropes that gimmicks get redone after a while - hell storylines too. HBK is doing wonders in NXT but many storylines are just rehashed versions of ones he did himself coming up. Wrestling borrows from itself all the time.

Actually, Ric Flair got his style from Dusty Rhodes, and he says it in a documentary he admits that the way he talks, walks, and attitude, and costumes came strictly from his favorite wrestler, go watch the documentary of rivals Dusty Rhodes vs Ric Flair.

I still don't see how Hogan was a rip-off of Billy Graham other than he was a jacked dude that says brother. Ventura was a WAAAAAYY bigger knockoff of Billy Graham. Graham even ripped off Hogan's mustache. It's crazy to me that there's still wrestling content creators out here with massive followings who don't realize Hogan had the blond caterpillar stache before Superstar did.

There has been many wrestler copies DX was a copy of nWo Ric Flair got his gimmick from Buddy Rogers Hulk Hogan got his gimmick from both Jesse Ventura and Billy Graham Demolition got their gimmick from the Road Warriors Carlito got his gimmick from Razor Ramon LayCool (Layla and Michelle McCool) got their gimmick from The Beautiful People (Angelina Love and Velvet Sky) Ryback got his gimmick from Goldberg Mason Ryan from Batista (didn’t help that Mason Ryan looked exactly like Batista as well) Brodus Clay got his gimmick from Flash Funk and his music from Ernest Miller Bobby Lashley from Brock Lesnar (even same initials) Robert Roode got his gimmick from Rick Rude Dolph Ziggler got his gimmick from Mr Perfect and style from Shawn Michaels FTR/Revival got their gimmick and style from Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard LA Knight got his gimmick from The Rock and Steve Austin Jay Lethal cosplayed as Randy Savage for a bit and tbh it was a nice tribute Shark Boy did a Steve Austin parody which was fucking hilarious Chad Gable and Jason Jordon from Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin Chad Gable wants to be Kurt Angle but is more like Charlie Haas And the Triple H and Shane Douglas thing is complicated but tbf Triple H during his McMahon Helmsley Faction Era circa 1999 to 2001 does seem quite close to ECW Shane Douglas.

I don't know if there's a term for this but certain wrestlers sanctify an entire gimmick or demeanor as a homage to one specific wrestler or that wrestler's entire genesis and regimen as a form of devotion to the business In many cases it isn't ripping off but rather its sanctifying.
