10 Year Old Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male UNBOXED!

The unboxing of a vintage bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male and a quick comparison to a recent formulation by Beaute Prestige.
I have used a new phone to record this video and the sound is far inferior to that of my old iPhone. Something to do with the functionality of the external mic when used with the Samsung S9+. I'll have to try to sort it out for future videos.

I have no idea where you can get a vintage of this Barinder but check out the new 2018 version by Puig. Pretty much just as strong as the old formulation, very good.

@@FragFreak I just got a new 2018 puig version, it is quite more powerful than previous versions of it (2013-2017 = trash) . I also have an 2011 batch and it is quite different in terms of smell , it has a bit more mint and the plasticky smell is a bit more pronounced , as far as performance goes, the 2011 is it still better than what we have in the market today ( puig version) , it is more powerfull and longer lasting but it is a step forward from the 2013-2017 versions :)

I also got a 2008 le male and I absolutely love it. It is way different then the current le male. It’s like two completely different fragrances. I would describe the vintage one more vibrant, nostalgic, powerful and the current le male like if you would to put Cuba gold inside of a le male bottle.

The old version is made in France. The newer version is made in Spain. I recently purchased one from ebay, it came from a gift set. Batch# VGY63 X. I have the 2013 version. The smell is great, especially the dry down stage.

I have a silly question…what spray distance do you use when applying Le Male? I usually apply at 5-6 inches and the spray concentrates on one point on my skin. Should I swipe the atomizer on my skin for more even distribution?

Hi Robert. I spray from fairly close range too. I want as much of the juice on my skin as possible. I find that if I spray from any further away, it whooshes out in a big wide cloud and lots of it misses and just goes into the air. Don’t swipe the atomiser though. Dabbing is good. Spray from close range and then just gently press the area with your wrists or forearms. I often apply a bit to my inner wrists and then dab on my neck. I am a massive oversprayer though. Pretty much eight or nine sprays as a minimum.

@@FragFreak Applying too close on my skin leaves an oily mark, (which helps with longevity, but not projection) especially with middle eastern or higher fragrance concentrations. This prevents the fragrance from projecting off of my skin (Oily) unless the atomizer uses a finer mist, which seems to disperse the fragrance over a wider area on the skin. What I meant by “swiping”, was to move the atomizer over the skin from side to side while spraying, to disperse the fragrance over a wider area and prevent oil from concentrating in one spot on my skin?! How can I apply fragrances to improve projection? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated?

I had Le Male 2009 and I remember it being not that strong like some people say, but stronger than the Puig Le Male I bought some days ago. Like you said, it was warmer and sweetener than now. The Puig Le Male is bitter and does not have that juicy lavender it used to have.

I find the vintage one to be pretty beastly myself. I've only sprayed a little from a tester in a store of the Puig version mind you, I don't own a bottle. I just remember it being distinctly better that the recent reformations from Beaut Prestige. Thanks for watching sir!

Great review of the vintage Le Male. I recently got me a vintage one also , first release 1995. I will Cherish this bottle. I remember when it first came out in 1995 , I already thought it was fantastic but also very different than any other fragrance released back then. frag heads wet dream right there zoppy lol i too am a le male fan and av an old and new bottle.i think and now i could be wrong but current le male is puig made in spain and old formaltion is made in france by bpi.i found bpi on bottom of my bottle but no batch code that could be matched up on checkfresh etc:)it was part of a gift set as far as im aware as like a shady deal was reached lol.

Hi Edin. Here's what I know: All of the flankers that are a theme but still with the title 'Le Male' are exactly the same fragrance as the original but just with different novelties about the bottle. So in theory, the bottle of which you speak is a vintage and should have excellent performance. If it were me, I would risk it and purchase......but then again, I'm a crazy blind-buyer! I’m not an expert on the different batches and formulations by any means but I do know the more recent Beaute Prestige International versions were terrible in performance. It got better when Puig took over but still not up to the standards of vintage.

Great video !! On a old favorite of mine, but I have to disagree. I have worn this since 97. I probably have gone through 4 bottles or so in all those years. I honestly can’t tell you the older version had better performance at all. I think people misremember. A little like how fast datsun 280 z were, if you follow that. My current bottle is from 2013. I get 10hrs. I literally have to shower to get it off me. I don’t where it but a few times a year. But it’s still a beautiful fragrance. Keep up the great videos!!

ZoopyGoggins i own 1994 and 1996 batch. It’s different. Its like added Dreamer to modern Le Male. And better quality of oils.

90s/early 2000s version were the best. Back then it had a sharper more distinct opening, almost a peppery smell. My most recent purchase of Le Male was in 2015 and it’s a completely different smell. It’s very soft now and doesn’t have that sharpness.

@@FragFreak thanks. Very interesting. I have a R serial which is 2009 and I was trying to see if it was a vintage but I don't believe it is. It smelled a bit different than my 2004 bottle, and it has lighter stripes. Whereas yours is a year before and it have bright white stripes. I'm positive yours is a vintage unreformulated one , and I believe that the 2005-2008 had really white stripes, then it was reformulated in 2009-2010 some time and went to faint stripes. Out of curiosity what serial number is your old bottle that didn't last ?

No, vintage batches are from 95-2006. 2007 is when they reformulated it and then they reformulated it again around 2012=2013ish

ZoopyGoggins “15 to 20 sprays.” You can’t be serious. There is not a cologne on the planet that should ever be used that much. If you were my friend I would pull you aside and wake you up. I've been wearing this scent since '95 and yes the reformulations have totally sucked, but in no way are you wearing this correctly. I'm actually surprised your wife has not educated you. Cologne is suppose to be subtle not loud and obnoxious. This is not an opinion it is a FACT. Glad I could help you out. The one thing you did get right, was this is a legendary fragrance.

If this is a 2008 (P or Q batch?) then this is the second formulation. Still strong and high of quality but less of a powdery vanilla bomb drydown. The first vanilla bomb formulation was in production until 2006. Once they slapped the 'Gaultier' on the back they started bottling formulation 2. I don't think there were any regulations that changed it I think they just wanted it to smell a little earthier and spicier and less like candy.
