10 years in my life as a snowboard instructor. Becoming a ski and snowboard instructor then travelling the world working as a snowboard and ski instructor. This is my story.
Working as a snowboard instructor is a crazy lifestyle. I've been doing ski seasons for 10 years now. From Canada to New Zealand, Bulgaria to France, I've worked in ski resorts all over the world. This video was an emotional journey to make, I hope you enjoy it!

very interesting story, didn't know anything about the bad accident, and your long instructor career, or that you have been all over the worlds skiresorts incl. Hintertux (which is now also closed). I am a novice skier from China, and Malcolm Moore's skiing instructional videos are the most comprehensive and detailed teaching I have ever seen, helping me transition from a beginner who doesn't understand anything to a skilled amateur. I only saw Malcolm Moore's 10 year self narration today, which is very touching. I hope you can continue to create more good works and influence more skiing enthusiasts with your scientific and detailed explanations. Thank you again for your selfless sharing!

An amazing story. My desire to improve my riding and to teach mirrors yours... this will be my 11th season riding. I was an instructor for 4 years, but here in NY instructors get paid peanuts, so I had to alter my path. I began to lead bus trips to get out on the hill at no cost, as well as working in a winter dept/shop to acquire gear and stay connected to the industry. Now i'm an asst mgr at a snowboard shop and still growing my network within the industry. The new indoor skislope here in NJ is close by so i've hit that since the lockdown let up... I wish you the best... snowboarding takes a lot of dedication... clearly you've learned that the hard way.... glad you made a physical comeback... and please keep your story going.... Ash

Enjoyed this pal. I got my BASI 2 in snowboarding level 1 in ski and my level 3 ISIA mountain safety in 2019. Had my heart set on level 4 and teaching in France but after a poor few weeks teaching in Georgia and then COVID and Brexit I've kind of lost sight of the whole thing. Just went to Les Deux alpes for a week with a few boys from my gap course and really redescovered my passion. Seeing this gives me a little hope it may not be just a pipe dream, maybe it could still happen. I love the mountains man.💙 All the best!

I count myself reallly lucky to have had snow boading lessons with Malcome, as a novice i was scared of hurting myself and looking like a fool, but when i was up that mountain with him he took away my fears, and as the great teacher he is he was so very quick to pick up on what i was doing wrong, by the end of that day i had made it down the mountain from the 1st level which for me was very scary, but he came with me all the way i fell about 26 times, each time he was there helping me up and encouraging me on, when i got to the end the absolute joy i felt of getting to the bottom was an amazing feeling, Malcome took me to a bar for apre ski and got me absolutly blasted, the guy can really hold his booze!!! Hi Malcolm, your videos are the perfect blueprint for snowboarding. I believe snowboarding has a wider impact than just having fun and I would suggest that the outcome of your videos provide support for mental stress and mental health issues. These issues are common in this day and age. When snowboarding it is hard to think about anything else as the rider is concentrating and consumed by the surroundings and beautiful scenery, which I believe refreshes the brain. All supported by your videos. Many thanks.

Hi Malcolm, I watch a lot of your videos and love your content. Your story is making an old man nostalgic... I arrived to France when I was 24, I'm now 56. I got a job working in the South of France working for a standards organisation that wrote the standards for GSM (it was new at the time:)). I came across some magazine on snowboarding so decided to treat myself to a snowboard. I went to Decathlon and bought one of their boards. Back in the day, the trend were the Raichle boots and hard bindings. There was a small hill called "Greolieres les Neiges" 40 minutes from Antibes. It snowed Christmas but the little resort wasn't open. I drove to the little resort in my Renault 5 GT Turbo (yes, I was living the dream...Elecrtic Blue). I had never had a snowboard lesson, never slid down a hill, but I decided to go for it. So, I hiked up the hill and strapped onto my Rossignol board with the hard bindings, and pointed it straight down.....I immediately knew I loved Snowboarding...I kept at it for three hours...At the end, I was like a piece of tenderised beef.....I never felt so much pain as I did the next few days... The reason I'm trying to tell this story is, I decided to concentrate on my career. Today I'm a VP for a Software Consultancy company, I've spent my life climbing the ladder and I do regret not living the dream of doing what you have done. Your video has put a smile on my face but also makes me think.... What if... You keep safe and who knows, we may meet someday on the mountain:)

Hey Dan thanks for sharing, I have to say the Renault 5 reference went a little over my head though! You may call yourself yourself old man but I've taught much older people to snowboard, so you can always still get back into it! If you ever swing by my corner of the Alps be sure to let me know 👌

Hi Malcolm. Just been at Xscape Glasgow today, previous boarding was 18 months ago in St Anton. I have been trawling for new instructional vids. So glad I have found yours, brilliant delivery and great with the engineering analogies so helpful. Your 10 year review was so interesting. Off to recommend it to others. Many thanks.

Yes - great vid, well done! I know the struggle, the hospitals, the years of recovery, the visions seared into you from the bad moments when you don't know if you'll make it. Covid, Brexit, always being broke, the days in spring when you just breathe, the days in winter when the French have decided that splitboarding needs a ski cert and you're no longer allowed to work or travel or drive your car....... NZ, Japan, France, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, Italy, Bulgaria - the paths that used to be there. The snowboarding is the easy part - you get that across well. I've been on the journey 10 years now and I've done what you'd done by year 1. One day I'll be in a position to make this film for myself - I hope you can enjoy it now you've got it!

I snowboarded for the first time here in the east coast of the US this winter. And i stumbled upon your videos before i went for the first time just for some instructional tips to get going as i knew nothing. I ended up subscribing and watching every single one of your videos not just for the instructional aspect of them but i find you super entertaining and you seem like a super genuine guy. I just hit my 20s and i hope i don't spend it cooped up at my full time job you inspire me to go travel when i can and snowboard different areas of the world. Wish you the best of luck in the future and ill be watching all your content!

Great video Malcolm, gives people great insight to the life we live as British instructors living abroad. I was one of the original BASI trainers, initially living in Les Deux Alpes, eventually moving to Park City, Utah, which is now home. So good to see a channel with properly demonstrated techniques rather than unqualified vloggers with faults of their own, and poor quality advice! After 38 seasons as an instructor, staff trainer and examiner, I’m still teaching, albeit part time, working as a flight attendant when I’m not on snow. I still occasionally get out and race a little SBX or GS/SL. Life is good. Take care and keep up the great work! Martin.

Great video.....really enjoyed that thanks. A suggestion for one of your future tutorials: going straight! Never seen any pro advice on this, apart from XR who said to put your arms out and fly haha. Tips for going straight when you have to bomb a piste to clear the upcoming flat section? Also tips for mellow narrow tracks where you have to keep it pretty straight because of congestion? Im after conserving energy here to use on more interesting terrain later. I get by in these situations but know theres always more to learn. Cheers dude.
