Me too... Funny how the simplest little things were handed down to some of us... It's almost like that was another lifetime ago. And all I have left are memories by the handful of still pennies and a few other Little treasures. Things that kids nowadays aren't even interested in. It's sad. Well God bless you. Stay safe and stay well.

You may be missing an extremely rare and valuable error on the nickel you show here. Other than the obvious double strike, you may notice how the edge on the opposite side appears to be pushed in from the collar edge, or flattened. It is possible that after the nickel was struck normally within the retaining collar, a second strike might have hit the coin on the edge. This would have happened prior to the obvious "double strike". An edge strike occurs when a planchet has been struck, and rather than being pushed out of the die press, it gets briefly stuck to the top die, and in this case, the coin may have been turned 90 degrees after being dropped from the top die, rendering it trapped in the press as the coin is then struck on the very edge, leaving an image of the coin pressed into the collar. This flattens/bulges out the edge of the coin at the 90 degree angle strike. It seems like this may have happened here, as the "second strike". The "third strike" would occur following this, as the now, double-struck coin is only partially pushed out of the press (now horizontal) before the press strikes once more, creating the obvious double strike outside of the retaining collar, which you have pointed out.

I been collecting alot of pennies, and came across a 1943 and 1944. So I've been holding on to it. Why? Cause I wanted to see if there are worth anything. Well after watching this video I know have proof now. Thank You! Now who do I sell it too, my biggest research yet has came out the box.

I was looking through my pennies and I had at least 6 or 7 wheat pennies i wrapped in clear tape. I ran a magnet across them because I could not read the year too good. The one that stuck was in fact a 1943 penny the magnet found. Nice video.

Interesting fact I found out about the holes in those early silvers---they used to tie them together and hang and sew them inside clothing etc., or even under hair, to keep from being robbed. It was a darker world back then...not many lights. How cool is that? And, the holes can even add value, but will not take away as long as they are original.

i just your site. I know nothing about coins ( will just enough not to much ). in watching twice I've learned a little more. you talk in real talk. I'm not collecting ( a little ). I'm trying to get rid of 40 year + of change. i did not know there was value in errors if a coin. what im doing first, is getting in denomination order, and any sub denomination. Then into date order, then mint order. your voice tone isn't mean. " like any fool knows that". you show good. examples of what your talking about. some of the others sites, I just don't get it. my lack of knowledge and their style of representation. I'm frustrated. i have to believe or i choose to believe i have something of value. More than face value. and im not confused. Should I make any value, half will. be donated to my local humane society.

Although true, your likelihood of finding one is like being struck with lightening.

your captain is a lie steel pennys are not worth 1oo. ooo dollars

It has to be a steel cent dated 1944 to be worth a lot of money. 1943 steel cents are only worth about 50¢.

JD - not sure you can counsel here but I have a penny with three errors, one seeming significant, on it and wondering if I need to get it evaluated. The first is that the date is incomplete, '196', missing the fourth number. The other is that it clearly shows "IN GO WE TRUST", missing the D in GOD. Finally, the full "e pluribus unem' is missing. I had someone look at it and can confirm it was not scratched or filed off...its perfectly smooth where that copy should be.....so it did not miss a letter, its missing all three words.

JD what do you think of a 1943 D Steel Penny in MS66 and an error where the penny moved on second strike. Making the D MM up in between the bottom of 9 and 4 and the word LIBERTY on a slightly downward position?

1943 was a copper shortage.

I found a planchet for a penny back when I was younger that only had a partial coin stamped on one side, the other side was completely blank. It wasn't deformed on the edge from the planchet missing the stamp or anything. It actually looked like the press just failed to press hard enough to form the penny. Sadly my little sister found it when she was around 7-8 and she lost it in our backyard. Never did find it again... -_- oh well.

@@kelleywatkins6001 That comment was 5 years old and my sister lost the coin a solid 20 years before that. Between weather exposure and tarnishing, the coin would be a solid oxidized disk by now if it wasn't run over a thousand times by lawn mowers.
