Symphonic metal has turned into a more genuine genre now that they have Christopher Lee's voice. It almost feels like he's not wearing costumes for those music videos, just his casual tuesday night PJ's. Also, that's a killer Celtic Frost shirt. Keep it up.

Congratulations and here's to 100 000 more! Fun fact: the coat of arms Lee uses in his metal albums is his actual family's. He can trace back his lineage several centuries. Also he was a damn fine RAF Flight Lieutenant during WW2 and tasked with hunting down and interrogating Nazi war criminals. Lee is officially the most bad ass man still alive in the world. Teachers and parents should tell kids to be like Christopher Lee instead of being themselves. I think the world would become a better place for it. Here are a couple of actors that don't suck as musicians: Hugh Laurie's "Let Them Talk" album and Harry Dean Stanton's "Partly Fiction". Also Zooey Deschanel in the She & Him duo with M. Ward of which I was pleasantly surprised and let's see, Juliette (Lewis) & The Licks?

This Exists Out of all his works I think I love his reading of "The Exorcist" novell the most. I found his approach to it as a mix between a regular audiobook reading and radio theatre. He gave each character their own identity, reading the passages for the German housekeepers with flawless English-German accents, a typical cadence in speech and feel for the American lieutenant Kinderman and so on. It's one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard. Maybe one could also ad Jared Leto to the list and his 30 Seconds To Mars. I find their work having consistently high quality in today's shaky pop/rock scene.

Patrick Restieri Yepp forgot about the guillotine part, and a fun (?) fact: The capital punishment was abolished in France in 1981, the last execution though was in 1977. The French were a bit late there with all that human rights thing.

The idea of how "badass" something or someone is is completely subjective, and the badass=good mentality has started to slip in popularity on the internet recently. Nowadays, people trying to fit the hazily defined archetype of "badass" just come off as insecure and are usually met with a response along the lines of "3edgy5me, m8".

Awesome about 100,000 subscribers. I think you called it. Sir Christopher Lee is one of the only cool actors who was able to crossover into music. He also sung 'Treebeard's Song' with the Tolkien Ensemble. You really don't have peers for a knight who had Norwegian goth band Two Witches singing tributes to him, not realizing how prophetic they were with the line, "We need fairy tales. We need horror stories. We need to be like Christopher Lee." The only peer I can think of is possibly Björk. As far as I know, the only music she had done prior to the film The Juniper Tree was some Icelandic disco as a little girl. Unfortunately, I've heard some of it. She may or may not have been an actress before being a serious musician. She went on to do Spit and Snot, Tappi Tikkarrass, KUKL, the Sugarcubes and then her solo career. She was cool enough to tell Madonna she wasn't interested when Madonna wanted to work with her. When Björk acted in another movie: Dancer in the Dark, all my cool kid friends were obsessed with her performance. The soundtrack was an industrial sort of musical and remains totally unique. Not too many people get unfettered access to a country's national choir like she did with Iceland's on the Medulla album...and she was recently given her own island by Iceland.

I think Mos Def is an excellent musician/actor. As a musician, his lyrics are clever and unique, and as an actor, he always tries to take on a new character. When you read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," Ford Precept is described as the alien version of Cosmo Kramer, yet when you watch the most recent movie, you can't picture anyone in that role besides Mos Def. I want Mos Def to appear in a Dave Chappelle movie while supplying the soundtrack with help of producer Mark Ronson. Woah.... I just blew my own mind...

I think that our respect for Christopher Lee, being as old as he is, might be contributing to how cool he is. He's like this really cool grandpa that we're terrified of but we also admire him. There's probably some psychology stuff I didn't study that could explain it. And there's something I really admire about the fact he went with the musical genre that suited his voice, rather than one he wanted to do, or pop or classical? Though for all I know, he could actually have wanted to do heavy metal. Whereas these other artists all went with popular genres like Bruce Willis tried something in the hip hop rap area, and Hasslehoff + Murphy were straight into the pop music because thats what all the kids are/were listening to. I will be getting myself a copy of charlemagne and hopefully his christmas album because sweet lord I need this in my collection. Also, not a reddit user myself but having a subreddit sounds like a logical means of opening up discussion, I'd say do it.

I noticed that you mentioned e-books, like the ones on the kindle, which leads me to state my opinions about them. 1.) I just (for some reason unknown to me) can't read a book off of a screen, tablet or whatever, without feeling intense amounts of drowsiness. This just baffles me because I can play video games on my desk top for over 5 hours without a single break. 2.) It just doesn't feel right to me to not be able to feel the paper in my hands, and physically flip the page myself. I do realize that e-books are a very environmentally friendly and green alternative to regular paper books, as well as being more easily accessible, but I digress. Yes, I do realize that I went off on a tangent about this... but hey, at the end of the day that's what I am good at and like to do. Also gratz on 100k subs! :D *Internet Brohoof* (you can consider it a brofist if you wish, but I just call it that because reasons)

I get it. I only bought an e reader this year, but it's helped me almost double the number of books I read (increased portability, light, etc). Still prefer paper at home, though. And thanks!
@Castlefortress10 жыл бұрын
This Exists Eventually paper books are going to become obsolete, and that has two sides to it for me... 1.) I will be sad when paper books become obsolete, because of my current intolerance for them... (I won't go into too much detail about this, because I've already touched upon it *Please read above comment*)... In a nutshell, I'll miss the feel of the paper to the touch, and also miss the libraries that will inevitably be shut down. 2.) In a way, however, I will be glad that they are obsolete because that means that forests will be safe, and the paper usage will go down by metric ass-tons. I will have to find a way to tolerate the e-books however... I might as well try to get used to reading e-books now, because you never know when they might become obsolete... You're welcome! :3

Awesome video, I love your stuff! As a side note, there was an article published in a canadian newspaper, about two weeks ago, that explained that 10 000 hours of practice does not always make somebody a master of any skill. In fact, participants in the study have shown a maximum of 30% increase in performance. The researchers looked in many fields, e.g. playing a violon or playing chess. Also, as an example, chess players that obtained the "master" title had had about 641 to more than 60 000 hours of practice time. That said, continue to make great content!

There a lot more amazing facts about Christopher Lee that weren't brought up in this video that might require a second video ( such as his role in WWII as secret agent for Britain's Special Operations Executive, or the fact that he sings about Charlemagne so much is because he is a direct descendant of him). Also your mentioning Toxie makes me want to see you do a video on Troma.

Where most actors put their 10 000 hours into acting, Lee put his 10 000 hours into his deep voice, which is why he seems to be able to do so many different things. If you pay attention to everything he does, it's really just deep voice, with other people doing other things around him.

I feel Tom Green deserves an honourable mention. Granted, he's not an actor who succeeded at music, and he isn't even a good actor. He is, however, a good (depending on personal preference) comedian, who is also surprisingly good at rapping. There is a video floating around where Xzibit is a guest on his show and he asks Xzibit if he wants to hear him rap. That video is worth watching for Xzibit's facial expressions alone. Reading his expressions he starts out thinking "oh, no. This is going to be terrible." Then Tom starts rapping and his expressions first turns to "oh, he's not as bad as I thought" and then to "wait, he's actually good. That can't be right" and at last ends up at "how could I not know Tom's this good of a rapper?" I'm telling you, Xzibit's face is an amazing rollercoaster ride.

I believe that art is for everyone and if they express themselves sincerely then it is ok. Though if someone wants to do it professionaly then they need to train hard in every aspect. Many actors tried to do music but if you don't know basic theory, how to compose a chord or have your ear trained enough to understand if you are on key, then forget it. That works with musicians who tried to make it as actors. For example, KISS made a movie at some point and it was awful. They said it themselves that they tried to act without knowing how. Anyway, very nice video, thumbs up for The Wickerman (one of my top 10 movies ever), Hammer Films (definition of cult), Celtic Frost and of course the great Christopher Lee. (At some point in the future I expect reference to Jose Mohica Marins, I see references to your videos that I do not expect, which is amazing)

Christopher Lee is amazing he has played so many amazing roles in his career as an actor. He has even voiced some video game characters. From being Knighted, and being a classiclly trained actor. You can't get much better than Lee himself. In my personal opinoin yes there are a few actors who are on par with Lee. Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen are two of these. Yet they are all up there in age as well. Some modern actors come close. Yet they are still reaching in my opinion. ( Hugh Jackman) It seems to me that actors now aren't what they use to be. The older generations of actors had a form of respect about thier trade. You respect them for what they have done throughout their career. Mordern actors you just watch act next to a blue or green screen and watch things blow up with cg effects. Back then it was blowing up and things could get out of hand. Also Lee fought in WW2. He was a part of a secret group in the military. How much more bad ass can you get...
