$100 All-Season Tires for 981 Porsche Boxster S: Cheap, But Any good?

Not enough snow around here for dedicated winter tires, but waaaaaay too cold for summer tires, so I found cheap 20" all-season tires for my Porsche Boxster S. In this vid we take them out on the back roads during spring weather and see if they're worth driving in that area between cold weather and summer.

I know the Michellin and Pirelli tires cost what they do for a reason, BUT I've always wondered if they perform $150 - $200 better than others. Please continue down this rabbit hole for additional summer tires as I live in California

I ran p zeros through the U.K. winter, no problem. Couple of snow drives, was fun! When it’s really cold I just take it easy. Replaced all four for the summer, more p zeros!

So I’ve duplicated your experience. Have a 2014 Cayman, 20” wheels. Car came with MPS4s. In talking to Michelin they said do not drive in the tires below 30, and don’t even have the car sit on the tires below 20, or there is a likelihood of cracking, etc. So I also swapped them in Dec 2019 for the Atlas, for the same $ rationale. I did not swap them off the car in April 2020 as planned (thank you CoVid) since all track events were cancelled. I have put maybe 3K miles on them Having driven them for over a year I think they are 80-90% of the Michelin’s, and for most people, on public roads, the differences are minimal. I can feel them losing grip on fast, tight curves like clover leafs, when taken at speed. But it can also be a little more fun as you feel them slip more. Michelin’s are very good tires and I think the only time you can honestly recognize a difference is either on track or in the wet (and how many Porsche owners don’t even drive their cars in the wet). For me the Atlas tires delivered exactly what I wanted: 1/4 the $ of a winter tire, saved my Michelin’s for track use, and not having a significant loss in performance. I’ll be taking them off the car in May to begin summer driving events. Probably then I can feel what I’ve been missing. But to save $1100 over 3,000 miles of public road use only? Not a problem for me.

Great input! I'd love to keep updated on how they go for you. I figured as you did -- that if I use these during a big chunk of the year, my summer tires will last longer and I'll be safer too. Great to hear from you.

Mine is a 2015 S on Goodyear Eagles didn’t know they still made these, 20” factory rims. I’m seeing back orders on premium rubber.

My summer tires on Macan Turbo susceptible to puncture and quickly wear out, versus all season, longer lasting and good enough traction since I don't do track racing.
