Here in Brazil in the 80's this wonderful computer did not was a available for sale sold (nor I knew anything about the !! CPC) at that time I wore a Brazilian clone of the ZX Spectrum (TK95) and it was phenomenal !! But today, knowing something about the CPC, I wonder how it would have been wonderful if I could have had such a machine at that time !!

@TheCarambah Yes I hate fanboys and some of the worst I have come across are Amiga and C64 owners. The Spectrum, Atari and CPC crowd are much more friendly and open minded. I would say that personally I was thrilled to be part of the 70s / 80s era of computing, which sums up how I feel about then and now. I just wish modern day programmers would use the power available more efficiently, like they HAD to back in the 80s. Good to talk with you by the way :-)

@TheCarambah Actually I do have and use the CPC, C64 and Amiga 600 still, and I rather use real hardware as starting point to know what I'm talking about rather than just watching youtube videos or emulators Obviously there are better games for C64 like Myth which I love it, but hey It doesn't matter if those games "don't impress you", they still better on Amstrad. But hey if you feel happy saying that C64 is the shit , all right then good on ya

Excellent video, it's like making sex with my eye for 10 minutes....nice BGM too :-) I had a CPC 464 and several 6128, and had no idea there were so many games that looked and played this good (Green GT64/65 monitor and dreadful Spectrum ports didn't help ;-). Many look and play well beyond C64 or even NES quality. A pity that well-programmed games with smooth mode 0 scrolling, good animation etc. were few and far between...

I knew nothing about this system until recently, and only know very little about it now. As a C64 fan this is not an easy thing to admit, but I have to say that this system looks incredible and seems to outperform the C64 in many areas. I've seen a few pics of the unit and it's a very nice looking machine. I see a few commenters here saying that the sound chip was its achilles' heel. But the graphics are stunning, tons better than even the NES. I can appreciate why those who owned one loved it.

A fanboy is an idiot who argues blindly against all other reasonable arguments. An enthusiast however is someone who has a sincere & genuine love of something that holds wonder or achievement etc, & is happy to devote time and money into sharing this passion with others. I am in the latter category! I was a kid of the 70s and 80s & the first home computer owning generation. I returned to this via emulation in the late 90s, which was a total surprise to me. Emulation was great but hollow.
@EgoShredder
@EgoShredder 12 жыл бұрын
@TheCarambah There is nothing strange, weird or fanboyish about owning and using the computers from the past, and I do not seek approval. I mean people still drive old classic cars for pleasure and they are just regular people. Emulators cannot emulate the ENTIRE experience, and while using a PC you cannot escape the fact you are using a PC and that spoils it for me. One day emulation is all we will have, so best enjoy what we still have while it is still around.

@TheCarambah I owned a CPC464 & ZX Spectrum 48K in the 1980s, plus had weekly use of a friend's C64. We both acknowledged our micros had strengths & weaknesses, plus some games had better versions or genres on each machine. For example he was gutted when got Gryzor & Match Day II but then Wizball and Uridium were better on his. The audio was great on both actually if you appreciate the differences. Both superb computers that deserve credit & accolades in both directions! I own a C64 as well

Nice! Sinclair and Amstrad are not well known in the US, I think. The C64 and Atari were more popular on the other side of the Atlantic pond. Never got my hands on an Amstrad, but I remember how popular it was in, say, Germany. I was in Poland at the time, and Atari was more popular. I see I missed out a lot on not having had a chance on playing with the CPC.

A very nice home computer especially the plus series.But unfortunally many games didnt use the power of this 8-bit machine cause 70 % of them was just conversations from Spectrum.Old companies did that to many home computers to save some money since all of this wasnt compatible to each other. And with non-compatibility unfortunally microsoft exploited and PC's take the uper hand year by year.

@TheCarambah Well CPCs unlike C64 is not a "game console with a keyboard", remember no custom chips for hardware sprites, nor hard scroll. Many games where lazy programmed and straight spectrum ports. But it's hilarous when you say "I've seen cross platform game-comparisons, and I have yet to see the Amstrad win even one", i'll give you examples of far superior games on CPC: Double Dragon 2, Arkanoid 2, Chase HQ, Golden Axe, P-47 Thunderbolt, Batman the movie, Prohibition or what have you..

You could have said: “Thank god I had an Amstrad CPC464. It was the best of the whole bunch, albeit the most expensive. I know, as my dad worked on one of these beasts, programming for a living. They were the most versatile and advanced micros at the time. I still have all the mags, books, printers, packaging and everything. I remember what a special occasion it was to play the games. We had to ask Dad to load them as we weren’t allowed to touch his work gear. It was too special and sacred. :)”

There's no need for the fanboy comments in relation to 8-bit gaming. I had an Amstrad, some friends had Spectrums while one friend had a c64. We got excited about playing new games on each others computers as we did our own. It was a unique time for home computing and gaming.
