11:40 - Connor isn't a necromancer, he was just a magic user. Mages during DA Origins had no rights and had to be sent to live in "The Circle" a tower under the control of The Church. Even the children of nobles had to do so. Connor's mother (the Arlessa) found out about Connors magic and found Jowan to teach him in secret in order to control his magic.
@DelightfullyMADD2 ай бұрын
Thing is though... the setting also made it clear that, while definitely oppressive, the Chantry wasn't in the wrong for wanting to keep mages regulated, because mages _were_ a unique danger both to themselves and others. Well until later writers decided to retcon all that interesting and morally grey lore and just make mages oppressed for no real reason, which is frankly far far less interesting from a world-building standpoint. Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II both showed very clearly exactly _why_ mage's were feared and distrusted, Origins showed it deliberately and II showed it accidentally by hilariously having nearly every mage in that game whine and cry about how the Chantry views them all as blood mages and one bad day away from demonic possession... and then proceed to use blood magic and surrender willingly to demonic possession. Even back then I recall laughing out loud nearly every time I ran across rogue mages who whined about being stereotyped as blood mages and then proceeded to happily embody that stereotype, but for some reason I was supposed to sympathize with them.
@acrab6527Ай бұрын
Because magic works exactly the same way in Dragon Age as it does in WArhammer. All magic comes from hell, and the mages can at any second explode and have 23 demons pop out of the corpse.

@@DelightfullyMADD Counter argument the templars have always been portrayed as too into the punishment of mages. in the 1st game, you can play as a mage and it is the templar overzealous behavior that pushes your friend to dark magic. I think later games focus more on the "templar zealous behavior is creating the demons they fear aspect". There`s a good reason why mages get taken away but there`s also a good reason why mages are so reluctant to go, those templars are looking for an excuse to execute you.

I'd recommend a lore dive on each individual game. Or at least videos on how different facets of the lore work, like the Darkspawn or Magic. Because there's a lot about the lore of this franchise that this video completely glosses over because it's trying to cover literally hundreds of hours of gaming in such a short video. Like the Darkspawn for instance. They're basically introduced as a mindless race of corrupted monsters that exist to do nothing but spread death and destruction, and do so simply by existing. And I mean that literally, because their bodies are so corrupted that they carry literal plague and corruption within their very blood, and can cause you to get violently ill and go mad just by extended or direct exposure to them. But this video doesn't do any more to introduce them than just saying that you're fighting against them. This video seems like it's meant to be a lore refresher for people that have beaten the games and have a basic understanding of the lore already rather than an entry point for people who haven't played them.

FYI DA:Origins even begins in tragedy. There are 6 different origins that the Main Character can come from. And the prologue is playing through each of these origins. Human Noble: essentially the Stark family when they are overthrown by the Boltons. Mage: You try to help Jowan, get betrayed, and nearly lose your head. City Elf: You are a peasant and the noble wants to do Prima Nocta. Dwarf Noble: Bhelen (the progressive king) sets things up so you either kill your older brother or are simply accused of doing so. Dwarf Commoner: You mess up a job and get in trouble with a gang leader. Dalish Elf: You find an ancient artifact and get blighted.

Ok I'm not very far in, but need to correct something. With the whole Lady of the Forest thing. It's Elves (which Nux kept calling Humans) vs the Lady of the Forest and Were wolves. And it's not industrialism, it's the Leader of the Elves gaining an unnaturally long life by keeping the Werewolf curse going, and also binding the Souls of the Humans he cursed to that Forest so they can't pass on. Edit: However, you don't have an ancient agreement for aid from the Werewolves. You do have one from the Elves, which is why you'd help the elves. They are bound by ancient pacts to help you fight the Darkspawn. This pact would be null and void if you don't help the Elves defeat the Werewolves though. And there's like legit advantages in the final battle depending on which side you help. The Elves are archers and ranged units and bring more units to the fight. However, the Werewolves are fucking Werewolves, there's less of them and they have to get up close, but they deal more damage.

53:35 Nux, the 4th game had the best set-up for a sequel out of all of them. The 3rd game’s story was set into motion by Solas, a soft spoken and pretty kind companion. It was reveled that he was actually the trickster “god” of the elves. He imprisoned the other elven gods (revealed to be very powerful mages) by creating the Veil - the boundary between the physical world and the Fade. The old elven empire was warhammer levels of tyranny and Solas tried to stop it. But essentially rewriting the laws of physics to do so had unintended consequences. In this case the downfall of his civilization, decline of magic and the elves losing their immortality, culture and homes. Now he wants to correct that by destroying the Veil. Only problem is that will release all the old magic bs back into the world and threatening the current civilization. In the final dlc of Inquisition, he was still portrayed as sympathetic to the main character, but he would not abandon his quest to return of his people’s glory after centuries of struggle. Then Veliguard happened and as far as I understood, an hour into it, they said: “F the morally complex antagonist we had set up, here fight 2 generic evil elven gods”. Oh, and the “Dwarves don’t dream” thing had lore implications that were decently touched upon in previous games. Just another thing they botched with the bad dialogue.

Nux needs a series of lore videos on the individual factions of Dragon Age, because this video glosses over so much Dragon Age is basically Warhammer Fantasy Ancient elven mages so powerful they were worshipped as gods Mythal killed a titan, a living mountain, and gave the world access to lyrium, which is titan blood Ghilan'nain used blood magic to corrupt the lyrium and created the blight Mythal tried to stop the elven "gods", so they cannibalized her and stole her power to split it among themselves (with the exclusion of Fen'harel), so Solas used his orb and dagger in a ritual to imprison them and the blight in the fade, but in so doing rid the world of like 60% of its magic and the elves lost their immortality The magisters sidereal sacrificed 100,00 slaves and a mountain of lyrium in an attempt to breach the fade and commune with their gods in person, but were blighted and were ejected from the fade and brought a fragment of the blight back into the world with them That fragment retreated underground and grew into a potentially world ending threat Darkspawn are a living disease, and the very ground turns to rot and decay from their very presence Grey Wardens use the power of the blight to become super soldiers at the cost of shortening their lifespans to 30 years, where they have to kill themselves to stop themselves from becoming monsters The Grey Warden protagonist of Origins is basically a DnD adventurer with a charisma stat of 30, and if they're a mage they can literally create localized lightning tornados at will and can fight and kill the archdemon one on one And thats just sone of it! Like, there's so much more absolutly insane shizzle in this franchise

Mages for example. You don't train to become one you are born a mage. And you don't show signs when your born just one day in a highten state of emotions whether it be fear or anger you accidentally cast a magic spell. At that point your family has 4 options. Either they ship you off to the nearest circle which is basically a glorified prison in most cases because mages are persecuted for having unnatural abilities. So the Circle is a place where mages are rounded up and taught to control their magic. They're not allowed to leave the circle unless given permission and are accompanied by Templars. 2nd option is they decide not to go to a circle and try to hide. Because if a mage isn't at a circle they're labeled an apostate which means they are allowed to be killed on sight unless they agree to go to a circle. 3rd option is to be made tranquil. Which is they agree to be lobotomized and that cuts them off from the fade so they are no longer able to use magic but they have no emotions and are shell of their former self. And the 4th possible outcome is if a mage isn't careful at any point they can be possessed by a demon and then become an abomination. So to do lore true justice you'd have to do a deep dive on each game

Try 99%. Because there's literally only three choices that carry over. One: did the Inquisitor romance Solas? Two: did the Inquisitor swear to stop Solas, or redeem him at the end of the Trespasser DLC? Three: did the Inquisitor disband the Inquisition or keep it going at the end of the Trespasser DLC? That's literally it. Absolutely nothing else carries over into Veilguard.

I mean, Failguard isn't even a Dragon Age game. Not really. And we're not likely to get one for the foreseeable future. The trilogy will stand on its own as one of the greatest western RPG titles. They're great games with great worldbuilding and fascinating lore. Definitely worth checking out.

I think Nux missed a video with a bunch of ACTUAL lore setup and backstory as to how the world works and just went straight into the events of the games. 😅I mean, I'm glad he's going over game events, but he doesn't even understand what the Darkspawn are!
@sethkarma20722 ай бұрын
.... Was this explanation made by AI? It's so barebones and the clips in the video make me think of mid 90's websites. How do you even get into a lore dive without even explaining things like Andraste, the veil/fade, the situation with the elves and magic, what makes the darkspawn such a serious threat and in turn what makes the grey wardens so badass. Understanding these base topics are pretty vital to understanding the weight of the events that take place and why certain groups make the decisions they do.

I know this was just a recap of the overall story. But the lore and characters are so much deeper than this.
Never mind that Isabela tries to apologise to Taash, that's fair, but the fact that it's an excruciating 3 minutes of explaining why just saying sorry isn't enough, and you have multiple other characters around just watching, like this is both normal and the expected outcome, made the scene so much worse...
@sylvirgiomanach1491Ай бұрын
Especially with that whole "apologizing just makes it about you" thing while monopolizing the entire scene and making a whole production of it to stroke her own ego. AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN DO 10!!! If you're going to give a specific number, do that number!!! 😫😫 She could have just said 5! And somehow doing a bunch of push-ups is faster than apologizing?? Like. If you don't have time to say a quick "sorry," you don't have time to do push-ups. That whole scene is a stupid, pointless mess and the failure of it isn't even about a character being non-binary. It's that it's so forced, poorly executed, and nonsensical that it eclipses the point they're trying to make.

Dragon Age inquisition had also romance options with Solas, and then he just left 😅 Also, with the DLC, you have a Qunari party memeber Iron Bull, who can suddenly betray you depending on actions in the main game which is a kinda unexpected thing to put somehwere in the DLC

@@bryanttownsend381 It is how i found out about it. Also, after that you're playing with only 2 party members making the rest a lot harder I did replay the full game and DLC later, and went for the option that Bull will not betray you that run. Seriously the lore for the game had some good baseline and it's own thing going on. Origins having the different.. well... origins to show first hand different issues in the story was actually GREAT and let you have unique options to get through various arcs. I think my favorite was always the human lord route cause I loved the whole house infighting angle

Mate. This video is INCREDIBLY VAGUE Each of the groups you go help have enough depth you could probably make a movie about each one. The video just gives each one a minute or two to explain everything He should treat this like he did fallout and find videos about parts of the lore and watch those instead I recommend the videos from "Lore University"

This was really breif you really need to get something deeper. The story is absolutely amazing unironically one of my favorites ever on par with mass effect. There are so many things you missed like the Darkspawn being an illness spreading across the planet and the formation of the broodmothers. The complexity of flemeth and weather she should be trusted. The story of the wearwolves is much deeper and darker. The deep corruption of the chantry and templars how it has affected so many people and how a giant civil war stemmed from that. How the deamons , magic and dwarves work. Or the characters who will even fight and kill you if you do something against their morals like: Ogren: a broken man who drinks to forget and refuses to have a relationship deeper than surface level because of his missing loved one. But instead of being closed off and cruel he is lively, open and surprisingly understanding. Allistair: A man who copes through his jokes who was an orphan and just experienced the death of his father figure Duncan who understands the necessity of becoming King but is hesitant to confront his past in anything other than a joke. Liliana: A young girl who was a criminal until she met someone who supported and thought her and she entered the chantry life to follow her ultimately putting away her past and takes great joy in helping those she can. Dog: who is the goddest boy/girl. And the absolute chad sandal one of my favorite characters only behind the rhyming tree. And these are just from origins And so so many other things that I won't spoil because the story is amazing.

Ok i want to tell the story of my Dragon age origins character here, because for what ever reason at the the time i was comited to pushing the limits of what the game would allow in terms of making by character an utter asshole. Eva started out as a mage that sold out her friends to get points with the high mages. Upon being recruited as a warden she killed anyone that wasn't of use to her, exploited victims of the Blight for every coin she could get her hands on, sided with which ever side offered her more power, made contracts with demons to become a blood mage, double backed on deals or betrayed allies for the sake of power and profit. She flirted with her companions out of bordom/curiosity slept around and ultimatly broke alastors heart. The fact that my character was called a hero at all was praticaly a joke. At the end she forced Alastor to take the throne agains his will and wander of into the wilds on her own. The reason i bother writting all this her in a youtube comment section that no one cares about, is because ive never had an experiance in a game like that before or since, the seqeuls (where i headcoanned i was playing as a descendant of my origins character)dissapionted me as i was constantly forced to make good or moral choices when i didnt want to. The first game let me kill a messenger because he wouldnt have made it anyway, i could gut a prisoner to get a key he had swallowed rather than wasting time with his quest i could side with war profiteers, and defile sacred shrines. Im dissapointed in veilgaurd not because of the woke agenda or anything but becasue its been so throughly sanitisted from the game i loved.

I actually like the elven gods plot, it was setup pretty well in my opinion. To summerize; in the distant past the fade (spirit realm) and the material world overlapped each other, this will be important later. The elves where the dominant species on Thadas and had an (kinda) empire of loosly affiliated city states ruled by mage kings, these mages began to push the bounds of magic eventually finding a way to make themselved immortal by binding themselves to spirits. With all the time in the world they just kept on finding ways to make themselves more powerful until people just assumed them to be gods. Most where tyrannical with many slaves bound in service to their temples and demanding sacrifice in their names. Mythal was somewhat of an exeption to this being considered a protecter goddess though she was very brutal herself, for example people could come to her temple to petition her for justice, if she thought the petitioner was decieving her or being petty she'd kill them on the spot. Then there is Fen'Harel (Original name Solas), he more than any other actually cared for the elven people and was in open rebellion against the other "gods" for a very long time and was often aided by Mythal. Fen'Harel and his followers stayed on the move so that the other "gods" couldn't amass against him, so instead they targetted his ally Mythal. She was struck down, her body destroyed and her spirit left floating around. Fen'Harel enraged by this comes up with a desperate plan to get rid of the other gods "forever", he creates the veil - the barrier between the material and spirit worlds - and ensured the gods would be trapped on the other side. He then essentialy passes out and sleeps for centuries. This had unfordeen consequences, leaderless city states decend into anarchy, multiple civil wars happen and when the elven nations where at their lowest the humans took the opportunity for conquest. Thus raises the Tevinter Imperium who enslaves the elves (and other humans, they may be slavers but they're not biggots). Centuries later a slave revolt happens lead by a slave named Andraste who humans believe was a prophet of their god, about 2/3 of Thedas regains their independance under the Andrastian faith. The elves create their own nation state and try to reclaim their half forgotten culture. They get it very wrong, the tattoos they have on their faces becomes a coming of age ceramony honouring the gods... back in the day it was used to mark someone as property of the temple. They worship the god Falon'Din as Friend of the Dead, a guide theough the fade for spirits of the deceased... The real Falon'Din waged bloody conversion campaigns which slaughtered any who would not worship him. And of course with their rose-tinted view of the gods Fen'Harel is demonized, the malevolent trickster god who betrayed the gods to claim the world for himself. With time tensions raise between the Andrastians and the elves leading to war and the elves are for the most part once again subjugated, though the nobles and their retainers flee and over time evolve into the nomadic dalish clans. Some time during all this a human woman struck a deal with the spirit of Mythal, Mythal would give her the power to avange some past crime and in return Mythal would share her body while she slowly built back her power, this began a tradition of passing the spirit of Mythal from mother to daughter all the way to Flemeth. This is the world Solas wakes to, weakened from his last great feat of world changing magic, the people he saught to save subjugated with little understanding of their past and it's all his fault... At the end of Inquisition he reunited with Mythal/Flemeth and takes from her the power she's been amassing over the years (it's unclear if this was voluntary or by force). Solas is empowered once more (don't know if he's back to his peak or not) and he's ready to undo his "misstake" and once again a lot of people are going to pay the price for his well intentioned recklessness. Well that was a wall of text... anyway my point (I think) is that the elven gods plotline is a lot better with the context, the above video glosses over all this setup so it does seem to just spring from nowhere without it but they did propery set it up before Veilguard so that I at least was looking forward to it... Now? I'm going to need some glowing reviews first.
